Capítulo 726: See How Clarice is Doing

CHAPTER 726

It was late in the evening when Grey finally made it back to Ash’s warehouse-like base from the mountain.

Luckily for him, he hadn’t met any other member of the Crimson Lotus Clan and certainly not Ash.

‘Seems like they are still out on their mission…’

Grey walked into the base without any resistance.

Ash’s assistants, the ones who helped him work on pills and potions, recognised who had entered.

Because of that, they didn’t bother him as he strode calmly toward the room he had been given by the alchemist.

‘…Or they are out drinking in a bar. Those drunkards.’

He mused silently as he stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him before collapsing onto the bed with a dull thud.

Grey had noticed something while staying with the clan members.

They didn’t have a definite or defined territory.

They stayed wherever the night met them and usually, it was either inside a bar or within a portal that led to a beast world.

Sometimes, they even loitered around Ash’s space for days on end.

I wonder why though.

Grey shook his head lightly, pushing the thought aside, before sitting upright on the bed.

“Appraisal.”

Shimmering runes of blue light materialized in front of him, floating gently as they displayed his current stats.

….

His smirk knew no bounds as he stared at the shimmering runes displaying his growth.

“My lightning has grown far more powerful since robed man was a lightning mage and a five star mage. Absorbing his mana also helped increase my total pool by a large margin.”

He dismissed the runes with a satisfied grin.

“This ability of absorbing energy and life force is ridiculously overpowered. I wonder if there’s anyone else out there who can do the same thing as me.”

He closed his eyes for a few moments, feeling his core silently replenishing itself. Mana and Ki flowed through his body, cohabiting peacefully without resistance.

His Dantian had already grown and expanded slightly after absorbing Frowny’s Ki, but he was still quite far from the next warrior stage.

The same applied to his mage star, though he could feel that evolution was approaching sooner than expected.

Opening his eyes, they glinted faintly like twin stars reflecting distant light.

A loud crack echoed from outside, followed by a brief flash of light that caused Grey to tilt his head toward the window.

The world had been thrown into deep darkness, signalling the full end of the day.

The clouds overhead grew heavier and darker as thunder flashed and crackled through them.

It seemed rain was inevitable as a soft, cold atmosphere descended upon the world.

The kind of chill that made one’s blood tingle and encouraged quiet stillness.

Grey released a tired sigh as he stood up and walked into the bathroom.

A few moments later, he returned with his hair dripping wet, dressed in loose, comfortable clothing.

After drying his hair and body completely, he slipped back into the bed.

His gaze fixated on the ceiling above as his hands rested behind his head. From his waist downward, his body was covered in a thick duvet.

“Today, I rest. Tomorrow, I will go check up on Mother Clarice. Even though Noir is with her, it’s still the right thing to do.”

He stretched one hand toward the ceiling, fingers flexing and spreading apart before his eyes darkened slightly and his hand curled into a firm fist.

“I need to protect her at all cost. I can’t afford to lose another mother.”

With that quiet resolve, he released another slow breath and closed his eyes.

His body relaxed, finally allowing rest to take him after the deaths he had caused only hours earlier.

The rumbling thunder outside slowly turned into a gentle rhythm, sounding almost like a lullaby as sleep claimed him.

***

The first ray of golden sunlight filtered into the room, reflecting softly against the warrior mage’s peaceful face.

A faint smile rested on his lips even as he slept, untroubled for the moment.

As soon as the light touched his face, his eyes slowly flickered open like a gentle switch being turned on.

He glanced around the room before calmly peeling himself away from the bed with a yawn, followed by a lazy stretch of his arms.

“That was surprisingly peaceful. It’s been long since I last slept like a baby…”

He rose from the mattress and began walking toward the bathroom, his steps unhurried.

“… I wonder why.”

Minutes passed as the steady sound of running water echoed softly from behind the bathroom door.

After a while, the door opened again, revealing Grey with his hair slightly damp and clinging loosely to his forehead.

He dried himself thoroughly, then dressed in a neatly cut outfit of red and black clothing, paired with sturdy brown boots that fit snugly around his feet.

“I wonder why Alba or the others haven’t come to check up on me yet,” he muttered quietly as he released a deep sigh.

Striding toward the corner of the room, he took a seat on a chair positioned beside a small study table.

The furniture looked untouched, as if it had been waiting for him all along.

He picked up a sheet of paper, then glanced to the side where an ink bottle and a quill rested.

Taking the quill, he carefully dipped its tip into the ink and began drafting a short letter, his hand moving smoothly across the page.

The message read;

«Hey guys! I just want to say that I have left. I want to visit home for a few days or so. I will surely come back, so don’t worry about me. I need to check up on my mum and sort some things out.

Keep growing stronger and doing whatever you are doing. I will be back soon. And also, my purple robe got ruined. Kindly get me a new one, and make sure it has a hood. That will be appreciated.

Yours most powerful

Supreme Magus.»

He stared at the letter for a moment, a bright grin spreading across his face.

Reaching for the small bottle of ink, he placed it gently on top of the paper so it would not be blown away by any sudden movement.

Standing up, he turned away from the table.

With a casual wave of his hand through the air, an ashen portal yawned open in front of him, its surface rippling softly.

“Time to see how Mother Clarice is doing. I hope she’s fine.”

Letting out a sharp exhale, he stepped through the portal.

A loud snapping sound followed as it sealed itself shut, the echo lingering in the room while the letter fluttered slightly on the table, stirred by the faint breeze left behind.
