CHAPTER 720
The heaven and earth could bear witness to the destruction that ensued after Grey decided to stop holding back.
The projectiles he fired out struck with overwhelming force.
The wind paused for a brief instant as if it was holding its breath in anticipation.
The occasional chirping sounds from the forest ahead vanished completely, and in the very next second, everything exploded into one deafening roar.
The spot where the robed man had been standing shattered and crumpled like a stack of fragile blocks.
Nearly half of the mountain was erased, sent collapsing downward like a structure that had lost its foundation after being rammed through by a speeding truck.
Rocks tumbled endlessly, crashing into one another as clouds of dust surged skyward.
The smell of burnt corpses instantly wafted through the air.
The fifty two men Grey had killed earlier were caught within the destruction, their remains incinerated and scattered, intensifying the stench until it became suffocating.
“I wonder what my deal with mountains is though,” Grey muttered while calmly watching the debris rain down.
“I battled Z5 on a mountain and destroyed it. I battled Kira on a planet with a mountain and destroyed that too. And now I am here doing the same thing again.”
His ears twitched abruptly as a sharp zipping sound pierced through the air.
Turning toward the direction, a mixture of a smile and a frown creased his face.
“Oh good. You both survived.”
The robed man came into view. Half of his body was exposed, the robe and attire covering it completely destroyed.
Burn marks littered his skin as he glared at Grey with eyes filled with shock and restrained fear.
Frowny had also climbed his way back up after being sent flying earlier.
Whether through luck or sheer durability, he appeared uninjured, his expression unchanged as he frowned at the warrior mage as usual.
“G… G… Grey Dawn?” the robed man stuttered, his eyes still wide from the realisation.
Grey lifted an eyebrow, tilting his head slightly in the man’s direction.
“I know you are a mage and clearly from my world, but do you perhaps know me personally?”
The robed man did not reply immediately.
His breathing was uneven, his composure clearly shaken from narrowly escaping death.
When he saw the elemental barrage racing toward him earlier, he had coated his body in lightning and attempted to blitz away at full speed.
Even so, he had still been clipped by several attacks, resulting in his current battered state.
But that was not the real reason his hands trembled.
His mind was reeling, refusing to accept the truth standing before him.
‘G… Grey is alive? But how? How is that even possible? How did he end up in this world? What in the heavens is going on?’
Grey’s frown deepened as he observed the man carefully.
“I repeat: Do you know me personally?”
Frowny remained silent, Ki swirling tightly around his limbs.
His stance was tense, ready to explode forward at the slightest opening.
Drawing in a sharp, shaky breath, the robed man finally lifted his head and let out a short laugh.
“Ha. This is honestly insane.”
“Huh?” Grey raised an eyebrow, confusion evident in his tone.
The robed man sighed softly.
“To answer your question, no, I do not know you personally. But I have heard of you. A lot.
Especially since I am a mage. In fact, every mage that has come from Arondale knows your name, your feats, and your terrifying potential.”
He paused, then added quietly.
“But according to the rumours, you are supposed to be dead.”
Grey’s confusion deepened further.
If his memories were still lost, he might have assumed the man before him was some old ally based on how he spoke.
But his memories had already returned, and no matter how deeply he searched his mind, there was no recollection of this person.
So who was he really?
And why did he speak as though Grey’s existence alone carried enormous weight?
Another long sigh escaped the robed man’s lips.
“I have a question of my own.”
“Huh?”
“Why did you join the Midnight Sun Clan? And if you truly are Grey, do you even know what that clan represents? Do you know who the current leader is?”
Grey’s frown deepened further, his thoughts churning.
“Huh? What exactly are you trying to say?”
“I see,” the robed man chuckled softly for a few seconds.
He slowly traced his gaze upward, his lips curling into a knowing smirk as if he had pieced something together.
“So sad that they were unable to finish the job. Which only goes to show how much of a threat, how much of an obstacle you truly are. And now, I have to deal with you myself?”
Grey’s head began to ache from the endless riddles and cryptic statements the man kept spewing.
It irritated him even more knowing he was working against a strict time limit.
He only had five minutes before his mana core would be completely depleted.
That was the drawback of consuming those pills.
So far, barely one and a half minutes had passed, yet the man kept talking as if time was unlimited.
“If you are not going to say anything useful, then I would appreciate it if we returned to fighting,” Grey said coldly.
The robed man smirked as he finally lowered his gaze, then tilted his head slightly toward Frowny.
“I should honestly be running away from you after learning who you are. But something in me still wants to fight you. Perhaps if I defeat you, I will rise through the ranks.”
Seeing that the man had no intention of shutting up, Grey secretly activated a skill.
‘Appraisal.’
His left eye glowed blue for a brief moment as shimmering runes materialised above the robed man’s head.
{ CG: High-Blue}
‘Tch. He is even weaker than me,’ Grey thought with faint annoyance.
“Hey!” Frowny snapped, glaring at the robed man as he turned to face him.
“Enough with the talking. Let us take him down now. I am already pissed after he saved the girl we painfully kidnapped. Our plan is already ruined.”
The robed man sighed, a shaky smile appearing on his face.
“Fine then. Let us begin.”
Crackle.
Fizzle.
Bang, bang, bang!
The duo surged forward almost instantly, giving Grey no time to prepare.
But the Supreme Magus was built differently.
Instead of launching an attack, he calmly raised a hand toward his face.
Placing his palm against the mask, the charging duo frowned in unison.
“What are you doing?” Frowny demanded.
Grey smiled behind the mask.
“Giving you the chance to see the face that will be responsible for your deaths.”
He pulled the mask off, letting it vanish from sight.
At that exact moment, the duo arrived on either side of him, flanking him perfectly, their killing intent erupting as they prepared to unleash disaster.
