Capítulo 716: That Stung a Little

CHAPTER 716

The air felt serene, whipping across the mountain top softly, leaves scattering away as the entire peak fell into silence, an eerie quiet where only the whispering breeze could be heard.

“Wh… what?!” Anna croaked weakly as, through her blurry sight, she watched bodies collapse onto the ground.

She could not trust what her impaired vision showed her and briefly believed her mind had shattered as a lone figure cut down man after man until all fifty-two figures crumpled lifelessly onto the rocky surface, unmoving and cold.

Ash was not surprised anymore.

He had grown accustomed to such scenes.

Even though the Supreme Magus revealed techniques unfamiliar to him, methods he had never witnessed before, the alchemist merely shrugged.

After all, the Supreme Magus carried that title for a reason.

Grey stood still, gazing at the corpses scattered across the clearing.

Beneath the mask, his expression remained indifferent while his posture relaxed slightly.

‘Damn. One battle after another. The clash with Kira drained a frightening amount of mana.’

His gaze drifted briefly as calculations ran through his mind.

‘Spatial magic consumes an absurd quantity of reserves. When combined with lightning, both elements tear through my energy pool relentlessly. Now I am left with only one hundred and fifty mana points?’

A quiet sigh escaped him as his eyes lifted toward the cave, which remained completely still, showing no signs of movement even now.

‘Will that amount suffice against those two inside? I still possess ki, yet their aura feels sharp, oppressive, and heavy.’

His thoughts paused as he turned toward Ash standing several metres away.

‘Although I have him beside me. Still, he is only an alchemist with poison-based skills. It might work… perhaps.’

“Ugh…” A weak groan broke the silence, drawing Grey’s attention immediately toward Anna.

She gasped for breath, her chest rising unevenly.

Her clothing was torn in several indecent places, leaving her looking battered, exposed, and pitiful.

‘I wonder what those bastards did to her.’

His fists tightened unconsciously as anger simmered beneath his calm exterior.

‘I thought Yami sir mentioned the Umbrafell faction possessed morals. Then what is this? How could they sink this low, regardless of allegiance?’

With a restrained sigh, Grey walked toward her.

Seeing the masked figure approach, Anna flinched instinctively.

She tried retreating, yet her body refused to obey. Even lifting her eyelids felt impossible.

‘Her ki feels weak, unstable, and faint.’

Extending his hand slightly, the wind hummed gently before forming into a blade within his grasp, a translucent wind sword vibrating softly.

Ignoring her trembling, Grey carefully severed the bindings restraining her limbs.

Anna stared at him, lips shaking uncontrollably as the air brushed against her skin.

She let out a sharp yelp when the wind passed over her wrists, legs, and bruised flesh, every injury reacting painfully.

Grey examined her again, taking in her fragile state as she lay helpless on the ground.

Shaking his head lightly, he removed his crimson robe and gently draped it over her form, ensuring she was covered properly.

His movements were slow, deliberate, and careful.

The gentleness contrasted sharply with the merciless violence he had displayed moments earlier.

He adjusted the robe with precision, holding her wounded arms carefully while settling the fabric around her body.

A faint smile touched his lips beneath the mask, satisfied with the result, while Ash could only stare silently.

‘He has changed,’ Ash thought. ‘Cruel to enemies, compassionate to allies.’

‘What a strange man. You never truly know what he will do next.’

Feeling the warmth of the robe settle over her battered form, Anna smiled weakly.

The trembling wracking her body slowly subsided as her eyes remained fixed on the mage standing above her.

“Th… thank you,” she whispered softly, uncertain whether the masked figure could even hear such a fragile voice.

Grey turned toward her face, studying the faint smile for a brief moment before responding calmly.

“You are welcome.”

Anna parted her lips, clearly wanting to speak further.

BANG—!

The explosion-like sound cracked through the air violently, forcing Grey to attempt lifting his head, yet he was too late.

Something struck him with overwhelming force, sending his body flying uncontrollably through the air and off the edge of the mountain.

Ash’s mouth fell open in pure shock at the sudden turn of events.

Everything occurred within a split instant, so fast that neither he nor the Supreme Magus managed to react in time.

All Ash saw was Grey’s figure spinning wildly as it vanished beyond the cliff with terrifying speed.

Slowly, Ash raised his gaze, heart pounding, and spotted a man standing exactly where Grey had crouched moments earlier.

Pristine white clothing clung tightly to the stranger’s frame.

His stern black eyes stared coldly toward the direction where the mage had been launched.

Arms folded across his chest, he stood firm and immovable, resembling an unyielding mountain before Anna’s shivering body.

Yet that was not the end of it.

From the cave perched atop the mountain, another presence emerged slowly.

This individual wore flowing yellow robes, an insignia shaped like a half sun emblazoned across the fabric.

The symbol gleamed faintly as the man stepped forward.

His yellow eyes sparkled with confidence, carrying the arrogance of someone who believed the world belonged to him.

‘Wait. That looks familiar,’ Ash thought, narrowing his eyes as recognition tugged at his mind.

Silence lingered briefly before the robed figure spoke.

“Is he dead?”

The man dressed in white hesitated for a moment, his frown deepening as he stared toward the cliff.

“I do not think s…”

“Of course I cannot die from that.”

Every head snapped around simultaneously as Grey descended calmly from the air, landing beside Ash with controlled precision.

“But I will not lie. That stung quite a bit.”

He tilted his head toward the man in yellow robes, staring at him intently for several seconds.

Suddenly, a sharp beeping noise rang out from Grey’s pocket, followed instantly by the same sound from the robed man.

Both figures blinked, staring at one another as realization struck them simultaneously.

“Yo… you are a member of the Midnight Sun Clan!”
