CHAPTER 709
SWOOSH!
FWIIIIISH!
A massive gust of wind burst outward as the phoenix uncoiled its wings, arcs of lightning crawling, slithering, and crackling across each blazing feather.
Its eyes slowly opened, revealing the same radiant white glow from earlier, while its talons shimmered with tightly condensed electricity, forcing Grey to take a single step backward.
“What a beautiful feeling, right?” Grey chuckled while staring at the reborn phoenix.
Kira was currently glancing around as though trapped in a light haze.
Slowly, memories from her past life crashed into her consciousness in violent waves, causing her pupils to flare brightly for a brief instant.
However, as quickly as that brilliance surfaced, it faded away, the white glow retreating as stunning bright blue eyes emerged, locking directly onto the mage.
“It is.”
Grey smiled faintly while examining her renewed form. She had clearly grown in both mass and presence.
Previously, when she stood roughly the size of a lion, she was now easily twice that scale. Lightning wrapped her body aggressively, striking the ground beneath her without restraint.
Small, bullet like bolts spilled from her aura, hammering into the soil and burning straight through it like a heated blade piercing chilled butter.
“Without lifting a finger, I can already feel how much stronger you have become,” Grey said with a pleased smirk while observing the phoenix.
“Earlier, if I judged your power using standard beast metrics, you stood at the Saint rank when Thalos and I clashed with you for the first time.
After killing you, you were reborn far stronger and ascended into the divine rank. Now, after killing you again, you have reached the Primordial rank.
That tier sits just beneath the strongest class of beasts in existence, the godbeast rank.”
Grey’s grin stretched wider as excitement surged uncontrollably within him.
At that moment, he truly felt like leaping around without restraint like a child who had just spotted Santa Claus in the flesh.
Still, unwilling to completely disgrace himself, he restrained that urge slightly and instead let out an excited squeal before breaking into an awkward celebration.
He mixed a cowboy shuffle with hopping steps, followed by a few spinning turns reminiscent of a ballet dancer, then added claps and sliding footwork that made absolutely no sense.
Joy exploded out of him uncontrollably. His eyes sparkled brightly, mirroring a child gifted a brand new bicycle by Santa himself.
Why?
‘Thalos is now at the Primordial rank. Kira has reached the same tier. Hahahaha! I just gained two absurdly overpowered creatures under my command. Beings powerful enough to force all three great faction leaders to unite just to suppress them.
Hahahaha! Grey, you lucky bastard. I do not even need a full army. Thalos alone equals a thousand soldiers.
Kira matches that force. And me? Hahahaha! I am way too good!’
He squealed internally like an excited girl invited to a school dance by her crush, then erupted into his bizarre routine again while Kira watched with clear amusement.
After several minutes, he finally calmed down, breathing lightly while his grin still split his face.
“As promised,” Kira spoke as her wings beat softly, releasing a gentle electric hum. Her talons, previously erased by Grey, had fully regenerated after rebirth.
“I said that if you won our death match, I would serve under you. As a proud phoenix, I cannot accept submission beneath someone weaker than myself.”
Her gaze remained steady, resolute, and sharp as lightning danced quietly along her wings.
“But you just proved that you are someone I can pledge my loyalty to. You showed me with evidence since it has only been a month and a half since we last met, a time when I nearly ended your life.
And now, you have completely overwhelmed me.”
Kira paused briefly, her gaze fixed on Grey who was simply gawking at her with that strange, unrestrained grin plastered across his face.
“I do not need a seer or prophet to tell me this. You are someone worth following. I hereby pledge my full, unyielding loyalty to you and will answer every summons and command you give, as long as it is not absurd.”
The phoenix declared those words firmly while bowing her head in all her blazing glory toward the Supreme Magus, who was struggling fiercely to suppress the urge to scream in triumph and amusement.
“Thank you,” Grey finally said, his voice steady as Kira lifted her head to meet his gaze.
“At this very moment, I am tempted to fight and kill you again so you can evolve further. However, I know it would turn into a brutal confrontation, and this world would not survive the aftermath.”
Kira nodded in agreement, her wings rustling softly.
“I agree with that assessment. This planet is my domain, and I cannot allow it to collapse. I would appreciate it if we refrain from battling for a while. As long as I remain here, the land will gradually recover.”
Grey shrugged casually, completely unbothered.
“Whatever suits you.”
Kira then scanned the shattered environment, examining the fractured ground and ruined mountains before shifting her attention back to Grey.
“So what happens next? Do I follow you back to your world?”
Grey’s eyes widened dramatically as he began waving his hands in frantic refusal.
“Are you insane? You want to trail me everywhere? Humans would hunt us nonstop if a massive phoenix suddenly started tagging along behind me.”
Kira let out an awkward chuckle, clearly realizing the issue.
“Right. That makes sense.”
Grey felt an overwhelming urge to smack his palm against his face, but he resisted and settled for shaking his head instead.
“It is fine. Just stay here and do what you always did before I arrived. When I need you, I will either come personally or you will see this.”
As he spoke, Grey waved his hand, causing an ashen portal large enough to fit Kira’s body to appear briefly before vanishing.
“If I do not step through and you do not see lightning attacks pouring out within twenty seconds, then enter immediately. That means I am in serious trouble.”
Kira nodded obediently, much like a loyal guardian beast.
“Understood.”
Grey released a relieved breath and smiled warmly at the phoenix.
“Alright, that settles everything. I will be leaving now. Take care of yourself.”
Kira dipped her head once more as Grey formed another portal in front of him.
Without hesitation, he stepped through, his figure vanishing instantly and leaving the phoenix standing alone amidst the recovering ruins.
