Magus Supremacy - Chapter 703
Capítulo 703: A Broken Father
CHAPTER 703
***
“What is going on? Where did Grey vanish to? It’s been a day now!” Clarice could be seen yelling into the air while clapsing her hair in frustration.
It has been a day since the battle with the otherworlders and Grey where she lost her girls in the process.
Currently, she couldn’t bury the girls and Yami’s students yet as she was determined to wait for her husband to get back.
Despite Noir’s persuasion, she refused saying she had strong belief that he would return soon.
The main house was already a pile of rubble so the wolf and the woman were currently in the dojo.
White sheets were spread all over the corpses in the room while Clarice sat in one corner.
Her hollow eyes staring at the space while Noir now in his pup-like form lay a few metres away from her.
He didn’t want to interact with her.
He just lay there, rubbing his paws on the ground every few seconds while trapped with the rambling woman.
Ever since the battle where Grey suddenly vanished into a portal while falling from the sky, he stuck with her, listening to all her ramblings.
It felt like she was on the verge of madness as she kept mumbling to herself every second, eyes twitching while refusing to eat anything.
“I really miss Yami.”
She choked on her tears, head hung low as she sniffled her snot back into where it was about to come from and then…
Creak!
The door to the dojo creaked open causing Noir to swiftly shoot upright, horns glowing red ready to fire out laser beams at whoever wanted to come in.
Clarice staggered to her feet weakly.
Not like she was in any shape to fight anybody but to her, it was proper to stand up while watching Noir handle the threat that wanted to come through the door.
After a few seconds of tense standing, the dojo finally creaked fully open revealing a middle aged man standing in the entrance.
Seeing the man, Clarice’s shoulders dropped down in an instant.
Her eyes blinking rapidly in disbelief as she stared at the man staring blankly in the room.
“Y…Yami?!” She muttered in mild disbelief with trembling lips, her hands shaking while body jittered.
Hearing the name that came out of Clarice’s mouth, Noir finally eased up and strode off to the side and plopped on the ground… watching.
“Clarice.” Yami softly called out.
“Yami!” Clarice shouted with full certainty.
And as if a renewed surge of strength coursed through her, she darted towards the man in the entrance who dropped his sword to the ground with a loud clatter.
In a flash, the woman jumped into the man’s arms and wrapped her hands all around his neck so did the man.
As if a tap was turned on, the tears she was holding back, suddenly flowed from her eyes in waves drenching Yami’s clothing.
“Ya…Yami. Where have you been? Why didn’t you come back earlier?! It’s unfair.”
Yami didn’t immediately reply as he calmly stroked her hair. A calm smile on his face but it changed to a frown as his gaze drifted to the corner of the room.
He didn’t need any genius to tell him that what were covered under white sheets were bodies.
“I’m…I’m sorry. I also wanted to come back sooner but they didn’t let me. They held me back forcefully even after several pleas that I wanted to come see you all. I…I’m sorry.”
Yami croaked out as he held his dear wife tightly in his arms not refusing to let go as if if he did, she would vanish.
They stayed in that position for several minutes refusing to say anything as Clarice’s sobs just filled the room.
They didn’t need to say anything, the atmosphere did the talking as they just held themselves for a while longer while Noir in the corner kept rolling his eyes.
Soon enough, Clarice was the one who broke out of the hug. Gently stepping back away from the man while wiping her face clean.
Seeing as she had regained her composure, Yami decided to ask what was bothering him.
“What happened here? I went to our house, it is destroyed, it is currently a pile of rubbles. Why are you so… down and… and where are the gir…” Yami trailed off at the last sentence.
Something caught his eyes as he stared the bodies under the white sheets.
A hand rolled out of the white sheet and around the wrist, there was a band he recognised. A pink band on a tiny little hand.
Seeing this, his heart skipped a dozen beats in a few seconds while his mouth trembled slightly.
“No, no, no, no!”
He kept shaking his head while forcing himself to bolt forward in a flash.
He slid on his knees directly beside the body and with trembling hands, he pulled the sheet down to reveal Millie’s face under it.
He didn’t even need to pull the second one off as the wind did that for him to reveal Vanessa’s face.
His breath hitched, eyes widened.
And for the first time since they got married, Clarice saw a side she had never seen from Yami.
A shattered human.
He lost control of his body and fell on his ass, his body trembling. The facade of a powerful stage 5 warrior shattered in an instant.
And it was replaced by the facade of a broken father.
“H…how is this possible? Wh…what happened here?!”
Clarice just fell to her knees in a soft thud. Shoulders rising and falling as tears streamed down her eyes in waves.
“I’m sorry Yami, I tried.” She croaked out, her breath hitching with every syllable.
“I tried, Grey tried with all his might. Yet…yet…we couldn’t save them. They…they died.”
Yami slowly turned around to face Clarice.
“Grey? Is…is he back from the academy? Where is he right now?”
Clarice on hearing the question, shook her head.
“I don’t know. I…I don’t know.”
She cried harder again.
Steeling himself, Yami covered the girls’ faces and walked towards Clarice.
He slipped to his knees beside her and pulled her into a warm embrace.
The woman cried in his arms, tears pouring like torrents as silence permeated the air, words left unspoken.
