Capítulo 696: Times Have Changed

CHAPTER 696

Strolling toward the bed, Grey sat down on it with a mild thud, holding his head in his palms while his gaze stayed fixed on the floor beneath him.

A creepy grin slowly crept across his face as his shoulders began rising and falling the more he dwelled on his fifth affinity.

Those shoulders started lifting faster, dropping harder, until he could no longer restrain himself.

A loud laugh erupted from his throat as he leaned back, staring at the ceiling above him, mouth stretched wide while the sound echoed throughout the entire chamber.

If anyone had witnessed the Supreme Magus at that moment, they would have thought he had completely lost his mind, laughing alone in an empty room with no one else in sight.

“Haaa…” He released a quiet breath, the laughter finally dying down.

Rising from the bed, he straightened his robe with slow, deliberate movements.

“I want to put on my mask, but there’s no point anymore. They have already seen my face.” He clicked his tongue lightly while moving toward the door.

His hand closed around the knob, about to twist it open, when his head suddenly snapped upward, eyes widening sharply.

Every strand of hair on his body stood on end.

In a flash, he spun around, so fast it seemed like the ground beneath his feet had scorched from friction.

Straight ahead, a blinding brilliance bloomed, swallowing the room like an overwhelming inferno of white radiance.

Grey instantly went on guard.

Lightning crackled around his hands as he stared into the brightness, muscles tense and ready.

Moments later, the white glow burst outward like a pressure wave, slamming into him like a passing gust. Grey stood firm, unmoving like a mountain, eyes locked forward while sparks still danced around his fingers.

Slowly, the light dimmed and receded, revealing a lone figure standing calmly inside the room.

The moment Grey saw the man, his body stiffened.

The lightning vanished instantly. His heart skipped, breath hitching as his eyes widened in disbelief.

“Hello, Grey. It’s been a while.” The man spoke calmly, draped in a pristine white robe, long white hair tied neatly into a ponytail.

Grey steadied himself, a faint smile appearing on his lips as he exhaled.

“Oh. It’s you.”

The man, Blake, raised an eyebrow slightly.

“Oh, how times have changed.”

The old mage sighed quietly, watching as Grey casually walked back to the bed and dropped onto it without a care in the world.

“The same youngster who practically groveled at my feet the first time we met now stands unaffected by my presence, huh?” Blake continued, his tone layered with faint amusement.

Grey grinned broadly, white teeth flashing.

“I told you back then, didn’t I? I said I would grow stronger than you. I promised I would surpass you. And here I am, stronger than almost any mage alive right now.”

Blake shook his head before snapping his fingers.

A white throne-like chair materialized behind him, ornate and radiant. He settled onto it, fixing Grey with a sharp stare.

“Oh, you are not stronger than me yet. Reach my level first, mortal fool, before thinking you can defeat me.”

Grey sighed, rubbing his temples with a hint of irritation.

“You want to test it? We can settle this right now.”

Blake burst into a hearty chuckle, his scruffy beard fluttering despite the still air.

“Oh no, no, no. Not now. I am expending nearly all my energy just to appear before you. I do not have the luxury of time here like we once did back in our world.”

“Oh.” Grey muttered with a crooked smirk as he stared at the mage before continuing:

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see you here. At least even though we haven’t seen each other for years now, we still recognize one another. But what exactly are you doing here?

Based on our history and the few times we actually met, you only ever appear when you want to tell me something important or when you want me to grow stronger. Ha.”

Blake gave a slow nod.

“Indeed. I am here to tell you something.”

Grey raised his brows slightly while leaning forward on the bed.

“I’m listening.”

Blake’s expression softened as his eyes sparkled faintly while studying the young mage in front of him.

“Good job, Grey. I am truly proud of what you have become, deeply proud of what you have accomplished within such a short period.”

Grey froze for a brief moment, blinking repeatedly as he tried to process the unexpected praise.

“Wait… what?”

Blake nodded again, a gentle and sincere smile spreading across his face.

“I mean it. You achieved feats that would normally take people decades, even several lifetimes. You accomplished them in less than five years. That is no small achievement. It deserves recognition.”

Hearing those words, Grey smiled fully, determination gleaming within his eyes while his chest swelled with quiet pride.

“Thank you, First Mage, for the acknowledgement. I’m honestly honoured that you noticed my progress.”

He bowed slightly as he spoke.

Blake released a deep chuckle, his laughter resonating softly as his shoulders shook while watching Grey straighten up.

“It has been a long time since you bowed to me like that. And please, just call me Mage Blake.”

Grey suddenly froze.

His eyes blinked several times, mouth slowly falling open as fragmented memories rushed through his mind in quick succession.

He lifted a trembling finger, pointing straight at Blake, heartbeat pounding loudly.

“Yo… your name is Blake?”

“Huh?” The old mage replied with a raised brow. “Yes. Is there an issue?”

“Y… you… you are the founder of Lunaria Academy? One of the four magical academies back in my world? You’re Blake?” Grey exclaimed, recognition finally clicking into place.

Years ago, back when he was still a novice student at Lunaria Academy, he remembered sitting through a history lesson and asking Instructor Clark a question.

Who founded Lunaria Academy?

The instructor had said very little information existed about the mage, aside from his first name.

Mage Blake.

“Oh.” Blake laughed heartily upon hearing that, not looking surprised in the slightest as his laughter deepened.

“Lunaria Academy, huh? I almost forgot about that place.”

Grey closed his mouth slowly, then narrowed his eyes at the mage.

“So I was right.”

Blake nodded briefly before waving his hand dismissively.

“Let us not dwell on that right now. There is another reason for my visit aside from praising you, and it is far more important.”

Grey adjusted his posture, leaning forward again with a serious expression.

“I’m listening.”
