Chapter 603
SNAP!
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A cacophony of booming sounds erupted in the coliseum, blasting out a huge wave of wind that slammed into those still standing and caused them to skid a few metres backwards.
Liam was still soaring through the air from being tossed aside by Thalos when the gust of wind hit him too, accelerating his speed until Sera swirled Ki to her feet and leaped into the air, catching him before he could hit the ground and be destroyed.
Landing back down, she spun around and let the gust smash into her back instead. She dug her feet into the ground hard, refusing to be pushed away while shielding Liam from any harm.
After the wind settled, she let the student go and headed over to where the others were. She spun to look and saw a huge cloud of dust kicked up where the demon had been.
Grey had quickly leaped away and landed a foot from Rivock while Thalos staggered over to where he was.
“Nice plan. I knew you hated me, but actually allowing me to turn into a shield against a literal demon attack? Sheesh. That was going too far,” Thalos complained with a frown as he stared ahead.
“Relax. Out of all of us here, I knew you were the one who could tank the hit without getting sliced open. Even I would have been destroyed by that,” Grey replied, crossing his arms while staring at the thick cloud of dust.
“Did we get him?” Sera asked as she also landed beside Grey.
“I think so,” the Supreme Magus replied with a small frown.
‘It’s obvious that was not Ki he used,’ Mada thought, fists clenched so tight his nails dug into his palms. ‘How the hell did he get that power up? Argh. How do I get my revenge now? How do I kill him?’
‘Where are the leaders? Shouldn’t they have been alerted by now? Why aren’t they here?’ Sera wondered, her grip on her sword firm but controlled as she stared ahead.
“Why isn’t the dust settling?” Albed asked in a low tone, watching closely.
And right on cue, the dust began to recede as if something was sucking it away. The humans watched as debris slid toward a single point, vanishing into the air itself.
“Huh?” Thalos muttered, gripping his greatsword tighter while staring at the dust being drawn away. Finally, the demon was revealed, standing strong and surprising them all. Its mouth hung open as the dust and bits of rock were sucked into it.
“How the hell did it survive that?!” Albed shouted, pure shock in her voice as the demon looked strangely fine with no visible scratch, its bony wings twitching like a living instrument.
“AHH… satisfying,” the demon belched faintly as it looked at the humans standing against it with seethed hatred.
All the red bands had their weapons drawn. In front were Sera, Grey, Rivock, Thalos and Albed, ready for anything.
“You talk big, but when it comes down to delivery, you are lacklustre,” Gil smirked, wings twitching while it stared down the human group.
“I knew it would not be that easy,” Grey clicked his tongue, staring back at his hands.
‘But fuck it. I have completely run out of Ki and only have a tiny pool of mana left,’ he thought, cold sweat prickling his neck. ‘The others feel weak too. What now?’
“I really do not feel the need to use my demon art on you weaklings, so let’s just get this party started,” Gil muttered. With that, the ground cracked and a sonic boom ripped the air as the demon exploded forward at blinding speed.
“Let’s go! No matter what, we need to defeat this demon and survive!” Sera shouted as she gripped her sword tighter until her knuckles went white.
Ki swirled at her feet and compressed into the soles, and then like a rocket she burst forward, darting straight at the demon who was now directly in front of her.
“And I swore an oath to protect my students, the academy and this faction.” Sera said coldly as the demon’s claw hovered inches from her face.
CLANG!
A loud clang filled the air as steel met claw, sparks flying in a fierce display. The impact sent vibrations through the ground and caused deep fissures to spider out beneath their feet. The female instructor ground her teeth as she glared at the demon.
“And I won’t let you harm a hair on their heads, with or without their help.” Ki flared around her feet and she darted to the side, avoiding a vertical swing aimed at her skull.
“Go to hell, you annoying woman!” Gil shouted as it spun and swung its claw at the instructor, who immediately blocked with her sword. The air itself seemed to shudder from the force.
“Look at them, the students you want to risk your lives for are too terrified to even move!” the demon taunted as it swung its hoven foot toward Sera. She leaped back by the skin of her teeth as a loud bang ripped through the arena.
“And who said I was too scared to move?” A cold, twisted voice drifted into the demon’s ears. It spun, searching, but no one was there.
“You’re a demon, but I’m a monster in human skin.” The words fell from above. The demon glanced up to see Rivock hovering in the air, palms pointed down, a sickly yellow glow crawling over his hands.
“Don’t mess with me.”
BANG!
Rivock jerked his hand back and a huge beam of yellow Ki erupted from his palms, streaking toward the demon like a spear of light. The beam carved through the smoke and debris, slicing the space between them with searing heat.
