Chapter 587: Demons!

Chapter 587

Twenty years ago, humanity—the Vayun people—faced something they had never encountered before. Portals opened up, not the usual beast portals, but these were different, otherworldly, and absolutely destructive.

The moment Sera set her eyes on one of the portals, it felt like her heart jumped out of her chest, leaving her breathless and cold.

She stumbled backward, head spinning like she was tipsy. Her hands trembled in fear, shock, and utter confusion. Even her skin and eyes turned pale as the fearless and beautiful instructor was instantly humbled.

The students and the crowd knew not what they were about to face, and so they simply stared in confusion, unaware of the nightmare that was slowly unfolding before their very eyes.

“Guys! It’s a beast portal break!” Mada shouted in horror as he quickly gripped his sword tighter. But then, he noticed something strange.

‘Huh? Why does it feel like my strength or energy was just sapped from me?’ he thought with a small frown before quickly dismissing the thought, trying to focus.

“Wh…what is going on? Wh…why are we experiencing a beast portal break all of a sudden?” Liam asked, his body shuddering as the haunting memory of his past battle flashed in his mind.

He remembered the corrupted beast that emerged from the last portal he faced. The trauma alone was enough to make his knees weak.

Snapping back to reality, Sera immediately took a deep breath, swirled Ki into her throat, and then breathed out with all her strength.

“EVERYBODY! Run the fuck away from here now! None of us can face what is coming!” she shouted, her voice echoing across the entire coliseum.

‘Huh? Why is she getting worked up over a simple portal break?’ Grey thought, brows furrowed as his eyes shifted toward the five swirling portals. None of them had yet released a single beast, yet his instincts screamed at him that something was horribly wrong.

‘No, this is different. This feels… familiar. I’ve felt this before, but where?’

‘Oh damn it! I almost forgot about this,’ Thalos thought, his expression tightening. ‘The last time this kind of portal appeared, that fool was so busy crafting that his energy drew something in from the other side.

And now, the combination of Grey’s lightning magic and Rivock’s Ki has gone ahead and opened even more portals. I don’t know what those creatures are or how strong they might be, but one thing is certain… they’re dangerous.’

Before anyone could react, footsteps echoed out—slow, deliberate, and heavy. The portals began to warp violently, distorting the air around them, and immediately, something walked out.

Then another.

Then another.

And another.

From all five portals, waves of creatures emerged—slowly, calmly, almost gracefully, yet unnervingly so. The sight alone made every single person’s blood run cold.

The moment the humans saw them, they felt their skin crawl, every instinct screaming at them that these beings were not something they could fight. Even Grey, despite his strength, instinctively took a step back.

And finally, their entire forms came into full view. Out of the portals, a hundred of these creatures stepped forth from each one—five hundred in total standing tall and unmoving.

Their bodies towered above men, gaunt silhouettes cloaked in shifting darkness, as though smoke and flesh had fused together. Beneath the shadowy veil, glimpses of scorched, cracked skin glowed faintly like molten rock.

Their elongated limbs ended in clawed fingers that dripped embers with every twitch. Two twisted horns curled backward like charred roots, and their eyes were burning voids—twin furnaces of black fire.

Every step they took warped the air itself, and their voices carried as a chorus of whispers layered with screams that clawed at the soul.

They did not look of this world. They did not look like beasts. They looked otherworldly—eldritch even. And that was when Sera, trembling but resolute, took the liberty to call out again.

“You morons, these aren’t beasts! They are DEMONS!”

“Demons?!” Everybody in the coliseum shuddered in unison at the warning that just reached their ears.

‘De…demons? What are they? What are we about to deal with here?!’ Grey thought as his hands trembled at the sight of the beings that didn’t look like mindless, dull creatures but something more—something aware.

‘Demons? Why have I never heard of them before?’ Thalos thought, his brows furrowing as his instincts screamed danger.

‘De…demons? Isn’t this the tale Dad always spoke about when we were kids?’ Rivock thought as sweat began dripping down his face. ‘Tales of otherworldly creatures with physical strength that surpassed even Stage Three warriors… beings stronger than any beast we’ve ever faced. They’re real?!’

“Ah!”

A chilling, bone and skin-crawling voice suddenly echoed aloud as from one of the portals, another figure stepped out.

The instant it emerged, all five portals snapped shut at once, and all eyes turned toward the figure that had just crossed through.

The moment it walked forward, the five hundred demons bowed slightly and parted, giving it room to pass with chilling reverence.

This demon’s form resembled a human only in outline. Jagged bones jutted out from its shoulders, ribs, and spine, forming a grotesque armor that seemed fused to its very flesh. Its face stretched unnaturally long, its jaw unhinged to reveal serrated teeth arranged in uneven rows.

Its legs bent backward in unnatural angles, yet it stood tall on cloven hooves that cracked the ground beneath every step.

From its back protruded skeletal wings—twisted things, not meant for flight but writhing as if alive, scraping and screeching against the air. Every breath it took came in rattling gasps, like death itself inhaling.

The sheer aura radiating from that single demon didn’t just shake their skin or bones, it rattled their very souls.

On one of its glowing yellow eyes, a double-digit number was carved, glowing like a divine curse.

10.

‘Fuck! A Lower Echelon?! Oh crap!’ Sera thought, her heart hammering as she immediately leaped down from the stands, landing on the coliseum’s shattered floor with precision. ‘This is bad. Why did they send one of the Twelve Echelons?!’

“This human world stinks,” the demon muttered, its voice deep and distorted as a wide grin spread across its face, revealing those jagged rows of teeth. The words alone made everyone present shudder in primal terror. “It reeks of weaklings… and soon-to-be corpses.”

Hey Magus Legion! I don’t know if you all will like this twist and where I’m heading with it, but let’s see. I figured if gods and celestials exist in this universe, why not throw demons into the mix to spice things up?! 😅

I hope I don’t get backlash for this one! 🥲
