Chapter 582: Betrayals in the Aetherian faction!

Chapter 582

“Grey,” Finral mumbled beneath his breath as he stared at the display going on from the stage. “What are you doing? Dad and Mum asked you to stay low for a reason, and here you are, blowing your identity away. You’ll be fucking hunted by the big guns of this faction.”

‘Huh? Is this the secret he’s been hiding? That he’s not of this world?’ Ray thought as he stared at the pair of gauntlets given to him by Grey.

‘I don’t freaking care who you are. As long as you’re allowed to win this tournament and let me keep my job, you’re good to go.’ Kent roared inwardly as he watched on, beads of sweat trailing down his temple.

‘Is that why he asked me to close my eyes that day? So we wouldn’t see his display when he took down seventy beasts? Who are you really?! And have I just gone and pissed off a demon?’ Jared thought, his body trembling slightly. He had never felt as scared as he was feeling right now.

‘So I was right. He is a mage,’ Orion sighed as he shook his head at the name Grey had just declared. Then something clicked in his head. ‘Wait! Mage? Red hair, the name Grey, lightning affinity— Oh fuck! He’s the one!’

The leader shot up from his seat in panic, his eyes widened instantly as he stared down at the mage below.

“What happened, Orion?” Selene asked with a raised brow as she noticed how shaken the usually composed leader suddenly was.

‘No, no, no! How did he get here? Wait! If I’m not mistaken, he used Ki a few times and is a Stage 2 warrior. Crap! Now I see why they were so afraid of him!

That’s what the oracle saw… Our most dangerous foe — the first mage in existence to ever learn and use Ki. Damn! I need to report this as soon as possible.’ Orion thought as he spun around in a hurry, his cloak flaring behind him.

“Where are you headed? Aren’t we supposed to have a meeting after all this? And shouldn’t we discuss what we’ll do about that kid?” Rowen asked with furrowed brows, causing Orion to halt his steps.

“Leo, take the leaders and go have the meeting right now about the other issue. When I get back, we’ll have a discussion on what to do with him. Don’t bother me.” Orion replied coldly, and just like that, he zoomed out of the place, vanishing from sight.

“Huh? What’s suddenly wrong with him?” Selene muttered with a furrowed brow, her whip hand twitching slightly.

“Come on,” Leo said as he stood up, and so did the remaining leaders. “Let’s go and have this meeting, as it’s of utmost importance to our faction.”

Sigh!

“What a waste of time.” Rowen grumbled in anger as he stood up. “Came all the way from where we are because he called us here, and all of a sudden, he decides to leave? Tch!”

“Let’s just go,” Selene grumbled too as she walked away, rolling her eyes.

“Sera, keep an eye on the kids and the tournament. We’ll be back,” Leo said calmly as he also walked away with the rest of the leaders.

“Hey, Rivock!” Rowen suddenly spun around and shouted at his son, causing the boy to quickly glance up in alarm. “If you don’t win that fight and put that kid down, don’t you bother coming back to the clan again!” he thundered before turning away, his expression a mix of fury and disappointment.

Rivock’s fists clenched as he watched his father leave, his heart pounding in his chest. The pressure weighing on him suddenly felt ten times heavier than before.

Meanwhile, after leaving the coliseum, Orion found himself in his office. The moment he walked in, his calm demeanor shattered completely, his teeth grinding back and forth in frustration.

“Useless, useless, useless! No wonder the fool hasn’t come back yet!” he shouted in anger as he kicked a chair across the room, sending it hurling into the wall. It smashed straight through and went flying outside, leaving splinters scattered everywhere.

“How can one of the twelve Zodiacs fail to bring down one kid? One fucking kid! How the hell did he find himself here, and not only come here but grow stronger?! Damn it! I need to head back now!” he roared, slamming his fist on the table. He then tapped his forehead with two fingers, closed his eyes, muttered a few words under his breath, and waited.

After a few seconds, a voice echoed in his head.

“Yes? Any problem?”

“A huge one,” Orion muttered, his tone ice-cold.

“What problem could you possibly have that you can’t handle? Even if you can’t deal with it alone, there’s another Zodiac where you are, one who has solid manpower that can help,” the voice replied, the speaker clearly frowning in confusion.

“You think if it wasn’t a big one, I’d be contacting you?” Orion snapped. “Tell him to call a damn meeting already, and all Zodiacs should be present!” he barked furiously.

“Huh? Is it that serious? Usually, you’re calm and composed. What problem could shake you this much?”

“Not just my problem — all of ours,” Orion growled. “For fuck’s sake, our biggest threat is right here in my faction. Not only in my faction but in my academy!” he thundered, his voice echoing through the empty room. Silence spread in his mind for a few seconds.

“I don’t understand,” the voice said, sounding cautious.

“I don’t know if I’m right or wrong, but it seems I am because Grey Dawn is here. And not only is he here, he’s managed to learn Ki! He’s growing stronger under my nose! We need to talk.”

“Wait! Grey Dawn is there?!” the voice asked in absolute horror. “B… but… but I thought…”

“He was dead? Well, turns out the fool we sent after him didn’t finish the job. And here we thought they killed each other. Tch!” Orion scoffed angrily, pacing back and forth.

“Guess we have to call that meeting now. I’ll speak to HIM. Come over — we’re sending you a ride,” the voice said before the connection abruptly cut off.

Within a minute, a swirling portal suddenly tore open in front of Orion. Without hesitation, he walked to his desk, picked up a mask, and placed it over his face.

The mask was a void of expression, crafted from an obsidian-like material that devoured light, making it seem as if his face had been erased from existence.

Strange, ancient runes pulsed along its surface, shifting like whispering voices trapped beneath the black shell. A twisted, elongated grin stretched too wide to be human, frozen in a sinister mockery of laughter.

Its hollow eye sockets were endless pits of darkness, and from within, faint embers glowed like dying stars.

Wisps of black mist curled from the edges, slithering through the air as though the mask itself breathed. When he spoke, the words didn’t come from his unmoving mouthpiece — they crawled into the air, reverberating with an unnatural, spine-chilling presence.

“Grey Dawn… you were lucky to escape the last time,” Orion muttered, his voice echoing unnaturally. “But I promise you, this time, unless you suddenly become a god, you’re going down.”

With that, he stepped through the portal, and within seconds, it snapped shut behind him, leaving the room eerily silent.
