Chapter 579: Time to put you down for good!

Chapter 579

“Damn it!” Rivock spat angrily as he swung away the sword that hit him, coming to a halt and glaring at Thalos, who walked out of the crater. Although he was wounded, the gargoyle still stood tall, firm as ever, his aura unwavering.

“Why? Why? Why don’t you just stay down already?!” the descendant roared, anger twisting his face as he glared daggers at Thalos.

“It’s because I need to stall long enough for Grey to finish his fight with your friend and then come handle you.” Thalos replied, a wide grin stretching across his face despite the blood dripping from his mouth.

“Kek! You’re so delusional, huh? So damn delusional that you think Grey can defeat a stage six warrior like me? I’m just a stage below the vice clan leader, and you actually believe that puny stage two brat would defeat me?” Rivock sneered, shaking his head. “Yes, I admit he’s strong, but strong enough to defeat me? Tch. I must’ve slammed your head on the ground too hard.”

“Fine. We shall see about that.” Thalos muttered, his tone calm but his eyes fierce. Without hesitation, he dashed forward like a blur.

He appeared in front of Rivock in the twinkle of an eye, his sword slicing through the air, aiming for the descendant’s neck—

or so he thought.

A loud whistle cut through the silence as the blade cleaved through nothing but air.

That was because the descendant had moved so fast he left behind an afterimage, and that was what Thalos’ sword had just struck.

“Tch! Too slow.” Rivock’s voice came from behind him, cold and sharp. His fist shot forward like a blur, targeting the gargoyle’s exposed back.

Thalos spun around instantly, clashing swords mid-motion. A loud ring reverberated through the coliseum, rattling their hands, yet neither of them budged an inch. Sparks flew from the collision, illuminating their grim faces.

‘I’m the one and only Thalos the Great. Enough of being pushed back.’ He gritted his teeth. ‘You want to take revenge? Then I’ll help you weaken this bastard because I can already sense you’re close to finishing your fight, Grey!’

Without warning, he swung his foot forward, aiming to smash it into Rivock’s abdomen, but the descendant countered by raising his own leg, and both collided in a thunderous bang.

“AHHHH!” The gargoyle roared, cocking his head back before swinging it forward, hammering it directly into Rivock’s skull.

BAM!

Their heads collided with a resounding crack. Rivock staggered backward in mild pain. Luckily, he didn’t bleed—he’d coated his body with Ki just in time.

Still, the brief stun was all Thalos needed. He bolted forward, his fist glowing with surging energy, and slammed it straight into Rivock’s gut with everything he had.

BANG!

Rivock’s eyes bulged wide, and specks of blood sprayed from his mouth as his body was lifted off the ground.

‘Th…this strength… This is the true power of a stage five warrior. So how? How the hell did he get a blue band instead?!’ he thought in confusion while flying backward from the devastating hit.

He tumbled across the platform, almost flung out of bounds, but just before his body could cross the edge, visible Ki swirled beneath his feet. He kicked off it with a sharp blast, exploding forward like a rocket toward the charging gargoyle.

In a flash, they collided dead center. Thalos swung his sword with blinding speed, the blade slicing through the air with a sharp, whistling hiss.

Rivock reacted instantly—another small Ki platform formed under his feet midair. He twisted his body, spinning like an arrow to avoid the strike by a hair’s breadth. The sword tore through his shirt, grazing his skin, but he didn’t even flinch.

From his spin, he unleashed a powerful roundhouse kick, but as if Thalos had eyes on his back, he ducked instantly. The kick tore through the air above him with a loud, explosive bang before Rivock landed two feet away, panting hard, eyes locked on his opponent.

‘Looks like he’s taking things seriously. Well, so will I?!’ the descendant thought as he shot forward from where he stood like a bolt of lightning, the ground beneath his feet cracking apart.

Thalos didn’t waste time either. He swung his sword diagonally toward the charging descendant, but Rivock swiftly swiveled around, causing the blade to graze his shoulder with only minimal force.

Without losing momentum, Rivock burst toward Thalos, whose body was momentarily exposed. With precision and raw strength, he slammed his palm directly into the gargoyle’s abdomen, the impact echoing like a thunderclap.

Then, without hesitation, Rivock leaped a meter into the air and snapped his fingers.

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted as Thalos was blasted backward with blistering force. His body tore through the air like a bullet, slamming through chunks of broken ground as dust and debris spiraled violently around him.

‘Finally! Looks like Rivock is using fifty percent of his full power! I’m safe! I won’t get fired! We’ve fulfilled the conditions of this segment!’ Kent thought with a wide grin stretching across his face as he saw blood spray from Thalos’ mouth.

Tumble, tumble, tumble!

Thalos finally came to a halt, coughing out specks of blood as his trembling hands pressed against the shattered floor. His sword had landed several meters away, too far to reach in time.

‘M…my body. I can feel something changing inside of me. Though we gargoyles are different from beasts, there’s one thing we all share in this world—the ability to evolve. I was already close to my next stage before this match. Is it about to happen now?!’ Thalos thought, clenching his fists tightly as a faint violet glow began to flicker across his cracked skin.

He tried to push himself up, but before he could fully rise, Rivock appeared in front of him in a blur.

Without warning, the descendant yanked his hair with brutal force and slammed his face straight into the ground. The impact was so powerful that fissures spiderwebbed outward across the platform as blood spilled from the gargoyle’s face, staining the dust beneath him.

“Time to put you down for good,” Rivock grinned darkly, lifting his hand. Almost instantly, Ki flared around his arm, condensing into a gleaming sword of pure energy.

Without hesitation, he swung it downward with full killing intent.

“Not if I put you down first.”

A voice suddenly cut through the chaos, followed by a thunderclap-like sound that echoed across the arena. Out of nowhere, a figure appeared, sword in hand, clashing against Rivock’s mid-swing.

The impact sent out a violent gust of wind in all directions, scattering debris and forcing everyone nearby to shield their eyes.

The air trembled as sparks danced between the two blades. Rivock’s grin faltered slightly as he glared at the newcomer standing between him and his prey.
