Chapter 338: Demon Lair (19/)

The crimson background of the malevolent space was wrapped in silence and emptiness. Not a single living being was in sight.

But then, suddenly—

Two figures fell out of a red cloudy mist that had appeared without warning, landing on the hardened blood-red floor.

It was none other than Rowan and D’andre.

D’andre’s robes had been torn and bloodied, as though he had just escaped a fierce battlefield.

Rowan was the same, hair disheveled and clothes rough.

The two of them immediately rose to their feet, alert, the moment they landed.

D’andre held a spell circle, ready to shoot a spell at any target in sight, while Rowan summoned Soul Harvester and took a defensive stance.

They scanned their surroundings.

Only after discovering they were alone did they relax.

The two of them relaxed and turned to one another, an awkward silence wrapping around them for a long time.

“Did you also experience it?” D’andre broke the silence.

“Life on Earth before our transmigration?” Rowan asked.

“Yes. It seems it is real, it was really you. I thought it was just another mind game.”

Rowan simply nodded.

His mind gradually flashed back to the photo of his parents in that photo.

While he knew that entire life they had left for a short while was fake, he still couldn’t get those pictures out of his mind.

Could it be those were his actual parents and in that new reality, they hadn’t died and left him like in his actual life?

That seemed to be the case.

But it only saddened him more.

He never got the chance to meet them. He had seen the pictures earlier.

On the other hand, D’andre had a more fulfilled expression as he recalled the life he had left in that short while.

He had managed to procure treatment for his sister, exact his revenge on his cheating ex and her partner, and even fulfilled his dream.

The two of them replayed the scenes in their mind.

And then a thought dawned on them.

“Where is Colt?” D’andre noticed his disappearance first.

They scanned the area but there was no trace of him anywhere.

They even strolled further for a few minutes.

Knowing Colt’s deep hatred for demons, they guessed he might have run off to slaughter them.

But after searching around, finding him was unsuccessful.

Just as they were trying to figure out where he was—

A loud maniacal laughter erupted from upfront.

The two of them took stance as their eyes found the owner of the voice, or rather, owners.

Two humanoid figures could be seen strolling closer to them.

Their faces were illuminated by the crimson sun.

Once Rowan and D’andre observed the faces closely, their expressions crumbled.

The one in sight shared the same appearance as D’andre—long white hair, chiseled face.

Nonetheless, there were two long horns on his head and his face carried a malevolent grin.

The other was the replica of Rowan, but its skin was of red pigment and it had the same horns as its colleague.

Even more shocking, it was holding an exact replica of Soul Harvester and a dagger.

Colt’s dagger, Rowan recognized immediately. Did these bastards kill him and take his weapon?

But his thoughts were distracted as the two figures came to a halt. Their laughter ceased, and the entire demon lair seemed encased in tense silence.

Evil Rowan spoke. “You two managed to succeed, but the deed has already been done. Your powers, your thoughts, your goals, and everything you know now belong to us, much stronger and refined.”

Evil D’andre grinned, tilting his head. “A cunning merchant with a goal to get rid of the greater evil for the sole reason of his greed and a lord with an unparalleled destiny. We really hit the lottery this time.”

D’andre’s face twisted in anger as he heard the demon’s description of him. Him, greedy? When was he ever greedy?

Rowan, on the other hand, did not seem surprised by his own description. He really had an unparalleled destiny.

But at the same time, with this demon possessing all his memory and even his powers, how would he manage to defeat it?

That was the problem.

The air between them thickened, almost vibrating with malice. The two evil versions did not move closer, yet the weight of their presence pressed like a physical force on Rowan and D’andre.

Evil Rowan tilted his head, eyes gleaming with cruel curiosity. “Do you understand yet? Every plan you’ve made, every trick you’ve held close, every hesitation—you’ve already failed before you even knew it existed. You are predictable. Fragile.”

Rowan’s fingers clenched around the handle of Soul Harvester, the metal biting into his palm.

He wanted to strike, wanted to rush forward, but he felt the pull—their understanding of him was deeper than mere observation. Every thought, every strategy he had rehearsed in secret, the demons mirrored it before he even acted.

To defeat them, I’ve to apply new strategies, he thought.

“Thinking of cooking up a new strategy? Huh?” His doppelganger grinned.

Rowan did not respond.

He continued thinking, not for the sake of it, but to test something out.

Every time he thought of something new, his doppelganger said it out loud.

“It is settled.” Rowan’s face brightened.

The two demonic beings tilted their heads in confusion.

D’andre even turned to look at him, awaiting his response.

“You, my shitty version,” Rowan pointed at his doppelganger. “You can only reciprocate my thoughts and my strategy. You’re limited to just mine.”

“You’ll only be unstoppable against me. But against my colleague, you aren’t that bright.”

Saying this, Rowan stepped forward with confident strides, his eyes locked on his doppelganger.

“So how would you fare against an opponent you can’t predict or read?” He asked.

Immediately, his voice settled, his feet dug into the ground.

“The battle is settled from the beginning…”

Rowan’s body disappeared from his previous location at lightning speed.

“I feel dumb for not thinking of this earlier.”

With unprecedented speed, he appeared behind D’andre’s doppelganger.
