Chapter 692: The Isle’s Sudden Transformation

When Ethan lost consciousness, he was certain it was over. At the last possible second, he had seen the lightning sphere—so close, yet not quite within the event horizon of the seed vortex. The vortex’s gravity was already pulling stray, fragmented runes from its surface, but his Soul Power was spent, and the meager energy reserves in his body were utterly depleted. In that final moment, the sphere rebounded with violent force.

And then, he saw it. From the deepest recesses of his Energy Core, a faint, wispy strand of yellow light emerged. It was as thin and fragile as a single hair.

The moment it appeared, the rampaging lightning sphere shuddered.

Then, everything went black.

…

He had no idea how much time had passed before sensation slowly returned. The first thing he registered was a sweet, floral scent filling his nose.

“Ethan… Ethan, you’re awake?!”

A woman sitting beside him jolted as she saw his finger twitch.

He was regaining awareness, but his mind was still shrouded in fog. A voice, clear and melodious like a silver bell, called to him from the darkness.

“Ethan’s awake?”

“He… he’s awake?”

Two more, deeply familiar voices joined in.

He felt a cool, smooth palm press against his forehead, gently shaking his head.

Through the mental haze, he discerned at least three women around him: Lyla, Amber, and Rainie. Breathing in the sweet fragrance around him—a mix of their scents and something else—an expression of pure, unconscious bliss spread across his face.

“Ethan’s smiling!” Rainie exclaimed with joy.

“Whew…” Lyla and Amber let out simultaneous sighs of relief. The past two days had been terrifying. He had been like a corpse, saved only by the fact that his heartbeat, though slow, was as strong as a drum, and his breaths, though minutes apart, were deep and steady. Each beat of his heart had been a resonant THUMP that echoed in the quiet air.

Now, finally, his breathing and pulse had returned to normal.

Though he was recovering, Ethan’s thoughts were still sluggish and muddled.

“If you’re awake, open your eyes… stop faking it!”

Suddenly, a pair of hands gripped the sides of his head and shook him vigorously.

Yep, he thought groggily, definitely more than three women. The Dragon Child was here too, in all her violent glory.

But the rude awakening worked. The jostling cleared the cobwebs from his mind. He let out a low, pained groan and forced his heavy eyelids open.

His vision was blurry, unfocused. But it was clear enough to see that his initial guess had been wrong. He was surrounded. Nearly everyone was crowded around him.

He lifted a trembling hand to rub his eyes, then blinked them open again, his gaze sharpening.

“Why is everyone here? Are we back at the Whitmore estate?” He asked, realizing he was lying in a massive, familiar bed—the very one from his starlit tent within the Whitmore’s Hidden Territory.

“No… this isn’t the Whitmore’s,” he corrected himself, slowly sitting up and taking in the scenery. His grand bed was sitting in the middle of what looked like a primordial forest. Lush, vibrant green stretched in every direction, the air thick with the scent of life. No wonder the sweet smell had been so complex; it was a mix of the girls’ perfumes, the clean scent of the wilderness, and the fragrance of unknown flowers.

“We’re still on Ascension Isle. We never left,” Victor said, a clear note of relief in his voice at seeing Ethan conscious. “But while you were out, we made a trip back to the Whitmores to… relocate some things.”

“Relocate?” Ethan’s brain was still catching up.

“Yeah! Weren’t you the one who said you liked it here when we arrived?” Lyla said from his side, slipping an arm around him to support his back. She gave him a sweet, radiant smile. “I think it’s wonderful here too.”

He matched her smile with a weary but genuine one of his own. “What I meant was, what happened here? Wasn’t this place a smoldering crater after the tribulation?” He gestured at the towering trees and thriving undergrowth.

His question was met with a circle of strange, complicated looks.

…

As it turned out, not long after Ethan lost consciousness, his body had undergone a bizarre transformation. An endless wave of life energy had erupted from him, pulsing outwards in visible waves that washed over the devastated landscape.

Ascension Isle, which had been reduced to barren, scorched rock, was reborn in an instant. Countless green shoots burst through the charred earth, sprouting into flowers, grasses, and trees at a rate none of them had ever witnessed.

Then, a wave of profound Rhythm erupted from him. In that moment, the very heavens shook and the skies thundered. The rhythm radiated outwards, and everyone near Ethan was instantly plunged into a state of deep enlightenment. It was a force so potent that even seasoned experts like Hank and Regis were powerless to resist it.

When they finally awoke from that collective trance, the world around them had been utterly transformed into this verdant paradise. The experience was followed by a wave of cold dread—if an enemy had stumbled upon them in that vulnerable state, they would have been wiped out effortlessly.

They were all baffled by the change in Ethan’s body. No one could penetrate its secrets. Even Regis had tried to probe him with his senses, but the moment his energy touched Ethan’s skin, a powerful recoil force sent him stumbling back a step.

Strangely, the state of enlightenment didn’t seem to directly increase anyone’s strength level. But then Blackie made a statement that shocked them all.

“Holy shit… My barrier… it’s gone! I feel like from now on, I just need to absorb energy and I can advance without any limits!”

The Dragon Child was equally stunned. Perhaps because they weren’t entirely human, their senses were sharper. For Hank, Regis, and the others, the gains felt more intangible, like grasping at something just out of reach. But they all knew, without a doubt, that they had received an immense benefit.

And the source of that benefit was the unconscious man in the bed.

The rewards weren’t limited to the Energy users, either. Even Rainie and Williams’ wife—both ordinary women with no training—had been profoundly affected. Regis could see it at a glance: their bodies had been remade. They were now perfectly suited for wielding Energy. If they were on Umbral Star, countless factions would be fighting to take them on as disciples.
