Chapter 675: Pissed-Off Pretty Boy

The others, still dealing with the rabble of Mutant Creatures in the distance, winced almost in unison.

“Holy crap, that’s legendary! Ethan’s Divine Slap Technique strikes again!” Markham yelled, his twin swords a blur as he diced a Puppet into several pieces. He paused mid-air to watch the spectacle.

THUMP!

Leo used his shield like a giant flyswatter, smacking a creature away before also stopping to stare. “I’ve never seen him miss with that move. Makes me wanna practice it myself. Looks so damn satisfying.”

“You? Give me a break,” Uncle Jed retorted, taking a swig from his flask.

“What? It’s just slapping someone!” Leo argued.

“Sure, anyone can slap,” Uncle Jed rolled his eyes. “But landing it every single time? That’s the trick. I’ve known the kid for a while! Practiced it myself for years in secret. Best I can do is smack around total rookies.” He trailed off, remembering how he’d tried to replicate the move after seeing Ethan use it to devastating effect back in the Sea of Death. He’d eventually realized there was an inexplicable, profound essence to it—something that couldn’t be learned through practice alone. When he tried it, he had to rely on pure power to immobilize the target first. Trying to slap a true expert in the middle of a fight was basically suicide.

But Ethan? He’d slap anyone, regardless of their strength level, and the slap always connected. It was bizarre.

Even Regis nodded in agreement from the side. “That technique… it might genuinely become a unique skill spoken of through the ages.”

On their side, Regis, Uncle Jed, Hank, and the Dragon Child hadn’t even moved. Only the ones in Combat Mechs and Micah were involved in the messy fight.

Alaric was sent spinning through the air by the force of the slap. The hair tie holding his ponytail snapped, and his formerly pale cheek now bore a bright red handprint. He clutched his face, stunned into momentary silence.

Then, his eyes burned crimson, his hair flying wildly around him like a vengeful specter. He pointed a trembling finger at Ethan, shrieking, “You—!”

“Annihilation Pentathunder! Second Strike!”

KRAKOOM!

Before he could finish, Blackie’s voice boomed from above. A bolt of violet lightning, thick as a man’s thigh and radiating an aura of pure annihilation, scarred the sky.

BOOM!

It struck the enraged Alaric directly on the crown of his head. He’d been so consumed by fury he’d let his guard down completely. Seizing the opportunity, Blackie unleashed the third strike, as thick as a barrel, followed instantly by a fourth, wide as a water vat. The fifth and final thunder was the most terrifying of all; the entire mass of violet-black storm cloud Blackie had conjured came crashing down, enveloping Alaric completely.

Muffled thunderclaps and agonized screams emanated from within the churning cloud.

The entire sequence had taken less than a second. Ethan stared, dumbfounded, then looked down at his own palm.

“Who knew a slap… could be so powerful? Did I really piss him off that much?”

He remembered what Regis had said earlier: Alaric’s strength was extraordinary, at the late Voidbreaker level. Logically, even working together with Blackie, defeating him shouldn’t be easy—in fact, it should be nearly impossible. Ethan had only wanted to test his own limits against such an opponent. That’s why Regis, Uncle Jed, and the others were standing by, ready to jump in if he was overmatched.

Who knew a spear thrust to the rear and a single slap would be enough to break the man’s mind? To make him stand there sputtering in a battle, pointing and trying to curse? Blackie wasn’t one to let an opportunity slide. He’d unloaded the remaining four strikes of his ultimate move directly onto the distracted fool.

Huff… Puff… Blackie flew down, landing shakily near Ethan. “Run. Now!” he panted, his voice strained. Unleashing the Annihilation Pentathunder had clearly drained him completely; Ethan could feel the weakness radiating from him.

“Huh?” Ethan was still contemplating his earlier slap. He snapped out of it. “Run? Why—”

But Blackie was already nudging him with his head, pushing him back toward their group.

BOOM!

The moment they turned, the thundercloud imprisoning Alaric exploded outwards.

“You… will DIE! DIE!”

Alaric’s figure was revealed. His body was charred black, his long hair incinerated, leaving a shiny, bald scalp. His clothes were in tatters. Yet, sensing his aura, it was clear he hadn’t suffered any critical injuries.

Ethan’s heart sank. This guy is seriously tough. His physical resilience was just insane.

But then he thought, Wait, that doesn’t make sense. My slap clearly left a mark and swollen cheek. How is it fine now?

“Ethan, fall back!” Uncle Jed’s figure blurred as he appeared in front of Ethan. “He’s… merged with his second Avatar.”

Regis and the Dragon Child flew over as well. Hank, the other drunk, wobbled unsteadily through the air as if out for a casual stroll, eventually arriving at Ethan’s side.

“Second Avatar?” Ethan was confused. A normal Energy User only had one body. He thought Uncle Jed had misspoken.

“That’s right. A second Avatar,” Regis confirmed, his gaze intense and fixed on the frenzied Alaric in the distance.

“What the hell… Did this guy train in some kind of Shadow Clone Jutsu or something?” Ethan cursed under his breath.

This guy was seriously weird. His Avatar technique defied all common sense. If he had two Avatars, could there be a third? A fourth? A fifth? If each one was this powerful and could stack together, his strength would be truly heaven-defying.

“Ethan… I heard Grandfather mention once that the Seredin family obtained a secret manual called Trifurcate Spirit,” Lyla’s voice came from the communication device on Ethan’s wrist.

“Trifurcate Spirit?” Ethan tilted his head in confusion.

The others around him exchanged puzzled looks. Uncle Jed and the others were from different regions and wouldn’t know why this manual was so special.

“The Trifurcate Spirit actually exists? Even our Merfolk archives don’t possess it,” the voice of the Third Princess, Star, sounded from behind Ethan.

“You know of it?” Ethan asked.

“A little…” she replied. “The legends say that if one masters it completely, they can manifest three Avatars. With the original body, that makes four separate entities!”

Princess Star stopped speaking abruptly because Alaric across from them had begun to talk.

His vicious gaze locked onto her, causing her to shrink back and hide completely behind Ethan.

“Merfolk? Your kind has awakened…? Hahaha… Excellent… It seems the world is headed for chaos once more.”

The princess had been hiding behind Ethan before, only revealing herself momentarily. But that brief glimpse was enough for Alaric, whose eyes now gleamed as if he’d discovered a treasure. He seemed almost eager for the world to descend into turmoil.

Looking at his expression, Ethan felt the overwhelming urge to walk over and slap him a few more times.
