Chapter 633: The Devourer Unbound

The colossal wyrm fixed its gaze on Ethan and the floating sphere, its small, round eyes gleaming with a feral, bloodthirsty light. Yet behind that murderous intent flickered a trace of confusion. The creature could sense the familiar aura of a dragon, but this presence was far stronger than the kind they usually absorbed.

Ethan was just about to speak when the Dragon of Consumption’s voice thundered across the sky. “Haha… you little maggots, you’ve been feeding on my essence for ages. It’s time to return the favor!”

The mocking roar sent ripples of panic through the ranks of wyrms.

“Who dares speak so insolently?” the largest wyrm bellowed, its deep voice silencing the others. “The draconic power we cultivate was granted to us by the Cosmos Ancestor himself! How dare you accuse us of stealing from you?”

The Dragon of Consumption let out a low, guttural laugh. “Granted by the Cosmos Ancestor? Heh… or was it stolen with your own filthy claws? You already know the truth, deep in those tiny hearts of yours. But I won’t waste words. Just give it back to me… Consume!”

Its patience snapped. The massive sphere pulsed once, then collapsed inward, twisting into a dark vortex that swallowed the air around it. A powerful suction surged from within, yet strangely, it didn’t affect Ethan at all. The wyrms, however, were not so lucky.

Roars and screams filled the sky.

“Aooo! Roar! No—!”

In seconds, chaos erupted. Beams of dark light shot upward, tearing through the clouds. Within that light, Ethan felt countless strands of draconic essence, the same energy as the Dragon of Consumption’s own.

The chieftain wyrm, mighty and ancient, trembled in fear. Its titanic body writhed as it tried to flee, but its effort was futile. Ethan could sense its strength—it was at the early stage of the War God-rank. An incredible level of power. But even so, it couldn’t resist. The very aura that once sustained them now poured uncontrollably from their bodies, siphoned away by the consuming force.

Ethan stood frozen, stunned that such a powerful and intelligent creature existed on Earth. He didn’t move to intervene, nor did he want to. These wyrms were hardly innocent; better to let the Dragon of Consumption do his work—and deal with him afterward.

In moments, every drop of draconic energy had been stripped from the wyrms, yet the devouring didn’t stop. Threads of life essence—raw vitality itself—were being drawn from their flesh, streaming into the black sphere. The Dragon of Consumption’s power surged with terrifying speed. War God-rank… mid… late… peak… then Saint-rank. Early… mid… late… peak again.

Ethan’s chest tightened. He instantly regretted holding back. The creature’s power was skyrocketing far too quickly. Something was going wrong.

He began to edge backward in his mech, eyes locked on the roiling darkness. If this turned bad—and it surely would—he’d have to run. The Dragon of Consumption had already broken through to the Voidbreaker-rank, and its aura showed no sign of slowing.

A sharp series of cracks filled the air. Pop. Pop. Pop.

Ethan looked up. One by one, the wyrms in the sky burst apart, their bodies disintegrating into clouds of gray dust. Within seconds, the heavens above the island were veiled in an ashen haze that drifted slowly downward.

The sight left Ethan speechless. So this was the true power of the Dragon of Consumption—utter annihilation. Terrifying didn’t even begin to describe it.

Now, freed from the altar’s restraints, the cage around the dragon was only holding its body, not its strength. It wouldn’t be long before that, too, gave way…

Crack. Crack. Crack.

A sharp, splintering sound rang out around Ethan’s body. He had been so focused on the raging battle in the distance that he hadn’t noticed the change creeping over him. The metallic sheen of his personal combat mech was fading, its surface losing color like dying steel.

The sound finally snapped him to attention. “Damn it!” he hissed. The Dragon of Consumption wasn’t just draining life—it was devouring energy itself, even the essence woven into metal.

CRACK!

In an instant, his mech suit shattered into dust. The fragments dissolved before they could hit the ground, leaving him suspended in open air with nothing to hold him up. A violent pull seized him, dragging him toward the Dragon of Consumption’s vortex.

Ethan’s stomach dropped. So this is how it ends?

“Haha… human ant,” the Dragon of Consumption’s laughter rolled through the air, deep and mocking. “For freeing me, I’ll grant you a gift. I’ll save you for last. Now—become one with me!”

Ethan gritted his teeth. “A gift, my ass.” His voice rose in defiance. “Bear Form! Transformation—Ancient Demigod!”

A surge of lunar energy roared from above. Hum… A shaft of moonlight pierced the clouds, striking Ethan like a spear of silver fire. His body swelled, muscles and bones expanding until he towered over the island like a mountain come to life.

“Try swallowing this,” he growled, and swung a colossal kick at the swirling black sphere.

BOOM!

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The explosion of force echoed across the island. A massive shockwave tore through the waterspout surrounding it, sending sheets of seawater crashing outward like walls collapsing. Ethan’s kick had actually disrupted the Dragon of Consumption’s technique—and in the same instant, eight of the chains binding its cage snapped like brittle glass.

The spherical prison swung violently, smashing through the air before the remaining chains pulled it back into place.

“Get out here!” Ethan roared. His enormous hands reached forward, fingers closing around the cage. The impact hadn’t damaged the Dragon of Consumption itself—the cage had absorbed nearly all of it—but he wasn’t about to stop there.

Crack, crack, crack…

Under the pressure of his grip, the black metal glowed, groaning as if alive.

“Little ant,” the dragon’s voice came from within, slightly shaken, “what kind of monster are you?”

Though uninjured, the Dragon of Consumption had been thrown about like a rag doll inside its prison. Through the gaps in the bars, it peered up at Ethan’s transformed figure, and for the first time, a flicker of fear passed through its eyes.

Ethan’s aura was raging like a storm—he had reached the peak of the late Voidbreaker-rank. The dragon could sense it. Still, its shock quickly twisted back into arrogance.

“No matter what you are,” it snarled, “your energy is strong—and that makes it mine!”

The air vibrated as its consuming power flared again. The Dragon of Consumption feared only opponents far beyond its level, but this was no ordinary battle. Its strength lay in endurance. As long as it could keep feeding, it could wear down anything.

The suction intensified. Ethan’s massive body trembled as he felt the ancient energy within him start to ebb away, like a tide retreating against his will. Panic clawed at his chest.

“So this… is its true strength?” he thought, his mind racing.

“Luna!” he shouted aloud. “Transform—Ursar’s Claws!”

The dragon’s cage shielded it from direct attacks, every strike deflected harmlessly away. No matter how much force he put into it, Ethan couldn’t reach the creature itself. The cage was unbelievably tough—something even his demigod form couldn’t tear apart easily.

But the dragon couldn’t escape yet either. Not for now.

He didn’t have time to wait. If that thing broke free again, no one on Earth would be able to stop it.

His gaze hardened. “Then I’ll crush you before that happens,” he muttered. “You tricked me once… never again.”
