Chapter 4244: Noah Osmont! I

The Inevitabilities paused in their swirling, as if even mindless hunger recognized the weight of the question.

THE Creature was silent for a moment that could have been seconds or centuries…time got nervous around questions that fundamental.

“Existence,” THE Creature finally replied, its voice carrying the certainty of someone stating physical law, “is best experienced as a Civilization.”

HUUM!

The Fold Dweller waited for elaboration. The Inevitabilities resumed their dance.

“Not just best experienced,” THE Creature continued, “but one can only attain the true height of existence as a Civilization and nothing else. Individual achievement, personal transcendence, singular power…these are rehearsals for the real performance. Shadows cast by the actual flame.”

The statement landed with the weight of revelation that rewrote previous understandings.

“A Civilization is existence recognizing itself through countless perspectives simultaneously. It’s the existence developing eyes numerous enough to actually see itself. One being, no matter how powerful, sees existence from one angle. A Civilization sees it from millions, billions, infinite angles, creating a composite image that approaches truth.”

THE Creature touched another passing Inevitability, and for a moment, it seemed less like a singular entity and more like a collective pretending to be one.

“The height of existence isn’t reached by climbing alone but by building something that lifts everyone. Not because it’s moral or good, but because it’s the only way to actually get there. The peak requires all perspectives, all contributions, all failures and successes compiled into something greater than summation.”

…!

If this was true…if Civilization was the genuine path to existence’s heights, then those who devoted themselves entirely to that goal weren’t just altruistic. They were playing a different game entirely…right?

Every selfish being thinking only of themselves was essentially existence experiencing a local maximum, a hill it mistook for the mountain.

Meanwhile, those working for Civilization were climbing the actual peak, even if they couldn’t see it yet.

The will required for such dedication would be staggering. To subsume personal desire not from weakness but from understanding that personal achievement was literally incomplete achievement.

To build something you might never see completed because the building itself was the point.

How close were such beings to the true experience of Existence?

Perhaps closer than those with quadrillions in complexity who stood alone. Perhaps the weakest member of a true Civilization experienced more of existence than the strongest solitary entity.

But here’s where it gets complicated.

If everyone needs to work together to achieve true existence, and THE Creature knew this, and THE Living Existences presumably knew this, then why all the conflict? Why the imprisonments, the collapses, the endless competition?

“…”

Perhaps because knowing the destination and wanting to go there are different things.

It’s like knowing exercise is good for you while sitting on the couch eating chips…the knowledge doesn’t automatically translate to action.

Or perhaps, and this is the truly unsettling possibility…they were building a Civilization.

Just not one that included everyone.

The greater good, after all, never specifies greater for whom.

The unknown Fold Dweller left that meeting with THE Creature carrying a truth that would either inspire unity or justify the most terrible exclusion.

Because if Civilization was the only path to true existence, then the question became: who gets to be part of the Civilization, and who becomes the foundation it’s built upon?

The Inevitabilities continued their swirling, hungry and patient, perhaps understanding better than anyone that even Civilizations needed to eat.

—

Darkness.

This was all that Noah felt.

It was not the oppressive, hungry black of a void, but a soft, welcoming darkness, a gentle, velvety blanket that promised an end to struggle.

With it came a profound, seductive sense of relief!

As if in this perfect, silent nothingness, everything would finally be okay.

That maybe, just maybe, all he needed to do was let go.

If he let go, wouldn’t everything be that much easier? No more fighting against the crushing weight of existence. No more desperate scramble for power against a predetermined doom.

No more shouldering the fate of his family, his people, his very reality. Just… release.

So just… let go.

“…”

Let go?

Let go?!

HUUM!

Who was he?

He was Noah fucking Osmont.

He did not let go!

BOOM!

In the heart of that seductive darkness, a defiant, endless blue light shone.

The false peace shattered, consumed by a guttural roar that erupted from the very core of his being!

He rose from the depths of that tempting oblivion, his will a raging inferno against the gentle night.

He saw the brightening blue light, a vast, boundless ocean of pure potential, and he reached for it. He grasped it!

Mana. Oh, Mana!

HUUM!

It was his essence, his birthright, the one infinite truth in a universe of limitations.

He held onto this endless blue sea, and in its boundless depths, he found his anchor, his reason.

‘Letting go was never my Way,’ his thoughts were a silent, tyrannical bellow.

‘Dying simply was never my Way. Am I not chasing an infinite path of elevation? An Infinite Way of Existence?! So why the hell would I go peacefully?!’

BOOM!

His very existence roared in defiance. He grasped at that endless blue light, and the world reformed around him.

He found himself floating in an endless blue sea, a realm of pure, liquid mana that stretched to an infinite horizon.

His body was blanketed by this sea, held in a gentle, yet absolute, stasis. He could not move. He could not act. He could only observe.

The sea was a thing of breathtaking, impossible beauty.

At its far edges, where infinity began, great rivers of shimmering gold flowed, feeding into the blue expanse.

And as he looked closer, he saw it. An outline, an etching in the fabric of this mana-sea, a symbol of impossible, rule-breaking power.

The Seed Glyph of the Principle of the Cheating Architect.

The moment he ascertained this, reality itself seemed to pause, and a new voice, the calm, analytical voice of his own internal system, began its report.

Emergency Protocol Initiated by [The Principle of the Cheating Architect].

Analysis: A catastrophic, existence-altering corruption event has been detected. Standard defensive protocols are insufficient.

A single moment of your existence, the instant of corruption, is being expanded. Powered by your [Infinite Mana], this instant is being stretched towards a state of effective Infinity.

…!
