Chapter 287: The Mafia.

Kyle was laid up with Calista; she had slept off in his arms and wondered what Calista’s plan was overall.

Kyle knew she was nothing more than a fuck toy that could help him multiply his wealth but that was all she was.

However, it was beginning to dawn on Kyle that this woman was in love with him.

There was no other way of putting it, but did this mean he had forgiven what she did to him?

That was a question that remained unanswered because he bought her one of the most expensive cars in the world, despite his motive being to help her find herself in this exact situation.

Everyone had a price, and Calista’s release clause had been paid in full.

Money wasn’t a big deal to Kyle, but it was to everyone around him.

Kyle listened to her breathing and knew the last thing he could do was have her pregnant for him.

There would be so many ways she gained the upper hand, even though this would tether her to Kyle forever.

Kyle already knew he could win custody should it ever come to that, but his polygamous relationships might hinder this.

Kyle thought about all possible outcomes, and he came out on top in all.

Calista was good, but Kyle knew deep down, she wasn’t a good person.

Everyone is kind to people they like or could benefit from; it wasn’t a judgment of their true character.

How she treated him that day was who she truly was, and Kyle’s Total Recall meant he would never forget that event, especially since it happened a few days before the system came to life.

Kyle wondered why she never spoke about her family or anything regarding her past.

Everyone had childhood wounds, moreso in this day and age but this was no excuse to become a crappy adult.

Kyle had every reason to be a terrible person, but his experiences didn’t turn him into that.

Even though a major part of his childhood was a blur, he recollected certain events falsely.

Calista’s phone buzzed soon, but Calista didn’t wake up. Kyle was tired as well and should have passed out, but this system gave him an unfair advantage.

The phone buzzed again, and Kyle thought about checking who it was but realised he didn’t care enough.

This woman had lost his trust with the stunt she pulled, but was she still in contact with the girl?

It had been a while since Kyle had heard from her as well, like she disappeared off the face of the earth, and he didn’t even need to pay her off.

But then her doorbell rang, and Kyle sighed the moment it did because it would be troublesome if any random person saw them together.

He was already in the spotlight this week, and adding more drama would be in no one’s best interest.

Kyle saw that Calista wasn’t responding, so he had to nudge her slightly to try to wake her up because he had no intention of answering the door himself.

“Hey, wake up. Someone’s here,” Kyle managed to jolt her awake, and Calista was still sleepy-eyed.

However, she heard the doorbell and realised it must be Lorenzo; she had slept longer than she thought.

“Um… Aren’t you going to get that?” Kyle asked, and Calista lazily got out of bed.

Kyle stayed in bed because he knew no one would come to her bedroom, so he could wait them out.

Calista hadn’t told Kyle about her plans tonight, but Lorenzo came a lot sooner than she expected.

Calista quickly got dressed but also touched up her face just a little, an act Kyle took note of.

“Hm…” Kyle thought to himself, but didn’t say a word.

She left the room and closed the door behind her, but Kyle could hear the voice of a man behind the door.

This didn’t set him off because he knew Calista would have friends of different genders, and her body count showed she wasn’t one to spread her legs easily.

She came back to the room soon after with a big smile on her face that instantly disappeared.

“Hm…” Kyle thought to himself, not paying further attention to what was happening.

“Is your friend leaving anytime soon? I need to leave,” Kyle informed her.

“We are supposed to go out for a party,” Calista blurted out without much thought to it.

“A party?” Kyle repeated to Calista, and Calista nodded. She laid a few dresses on the bed.

“Which do you think I should wear?” Calista asked him, finding a way to involve Kyle in the decision.

Kyle saw the dresses she laid out and realised they were all top notch, this wasn’t a regular party, or she wouldn’t be dressing this “expensive”.

Kyle didn’t ask any questions and simply helped her pick one of the dresses she had laid out.

“This would look good on you, no doubt,” Kyle added.

Calista’s brow furrowed because he showed no curiosity as to where she was going.

But Kyle believed, as long as he wasn’t told, it was none of his business.

A mindset that has helped him stay out of people’s business.

“Hey, Calista… Are you talking to me?” Lorenzo’s voice slipped through the cracks, and there was no doubt Kyle heard him.

Kyle didn’t show any reaction because the truth was, Kyle wasn’t worried about any other man because they couldn’t compare in resources.

And the fact remained, Calista needed him, not him needing her.

“No, Lorenzo!” Calista fired back, but Kyle knew that name.

“Oh, it is a work party,” Kyle said, and Calista nodded, but that was all that came out of Kyle’s mouth regarding the event.

“Now come over here…” Kyle gestured, and Calista did just that; she leaned forward, and Kyle held her in his arms.

“You have done well for yourself, and I know you know… All of this is because of me,” Kyle whispered into her ear.

“And I want you to know, I simply gave you this world because I know it belongs to you, not because I thought you were incapable of claiming it for yourself,” Kyle said, and Calista’s heart began to thump.

“W-What are you saying suddenly?” Calista stuttered, and Kyle smiled.

“Nothing, I said nothing…” Kyle responded before landing a kiss on her forehead.

The truth is, beauty sets an unfair standard, and people discredit the accomplishments of attractive people because they associate them with their beauty and not hard work.

Calista didn’t care about the reason Kyle did what he did, but regardless, she believed deep down it was because he didn’t believe she could do it on her own.

Kyle had said words she didn’t know she needed to hear, but she wrapped her hands around him tightly.

A gesture that Kyle noticed and confirmed, she was just like everyone else when it came down to it.

–

Alfredo had done his job, but calling The Butcher, the person they tutored didn’t survive, but the Mafia didn’t hide that they were the ones who killed him.

They cut up his body into tiny pieces and littered it across the territory of every gang to let them know they were the ones responsible.

This was common with them because they remained the most influential crime syndicate.

And all organisations knew they wouldn’t do something like this unless someone had crossed a line.

Alfredo was worried that this could escalate into a war, and despite his being in this sect, he wasn’t all that great when it came to combat.

But hoped it wouldn’t come to it, the tension in the underworld was reaching a boiling point.

Alfredo had no idea what was going to happen with this latest demonstration, but the attempt on Kyle’s life was strange to him.

There was no way a skilled hitman would have missed; it seemed a little too good to be true.

Kyle was the man who took down Clarence, but was he truly skilled enough to survive an assassination attempt?

There was only so much one could do against a gun pointed right at you; killers don’t miss.

Alfredo learned one thing: it was never a good idea to dig too deep, or he might uncover something that would cost him his life.

This was why he preferred blissful ignorance; this was how he survived without losing his mind.

Alfredo knew Kyle was a dangerous man, but there was no way he was foolish enough to plan this, was there?

Alfredo was coming up with a theory of his own, but there was no evidence or proof to support this theory.

–

“We have reports of multiple sightings of body parts around several cities.” A police briefing was being held.

Priscilla and Oliver had come in with one of their biggest busts, with Kyle submitting the evidence he had acquired to Priscilla to make the arrest.

This meant they just came off a high, and it was high-five all around, so they were the favourites to take this case because the momentum was on their side.

“It is the Mafia,” Priscilla muttered under her breath, but unlike the fiery look she had in her eyes for the previous bust.

There was a hint of fear in them.

I have found one and will be fixing previous chapters!
