Chapter 253: Foxy Business

There was a small commotion at the end of a fancy hotel corridor.

A film crew was clustered in front of a room door.

Cameras, microphones, audio recorders, and lighting rigs all prepped and ready. The place looked more like a movie set than a hotel hallway.

Naturally, other guests couldn’t resist peeking out from their rooms.

“What’s going on over there?”

A man in a bathrobe muttered as he leaned halfway out of his door.

Another shrugged.

“Hmm, maybe it’s some kinda movie shoot.”

“Could be porn. ╮( ˘_˘ )╭”

That earned him a round of disgusted looks from the others.

A balding man further down the hallway lifted a brow.

“Nah. I heard online that some internet-popular hero was staying in this hotel. Maybe it’s some shitty high budget PR livestream or whatever.”

The others gave interested hums.

“Could be.”

“Yeah, that makes sense.”

“Tch… Nightwatch is way better.”

Every guest immediately nodded in full agreement.

Meanwhile, back at the door, the director gave the crew a sharp look and lifted his hand.

“Ready?”

They all nodded.

He gave the signal — knock, knock.

The door clicked open.

And there she was.

Beca Morgan leaned lazily against the doorframe in a silk nightdress. The soft fabric clung to her slender and curvy body in ways that made several cameramen instantly forget how to breathe.

“W-, Whoa… (/// ̄ ̄///)”

One of them muttered under his breath as his sweaty face turned bright red.

Another one exhaled through his nose like a bull.

The director snapped his fingers.

“FOCUS!” (ꐦ ಠ皿ಠ )

They all jumped.

He pointed firmly at Beca.

“Camera on her. Not her legs. Not her chest. Her.”

The crew straightened up.

Back to pretending like they were professionals.

Beca gave a teasing little smile at the camera and shifted her weight against the door — just enough that the soft curve of her butt subtly pressed through the silk.

“Hello, my name is Beca Morgan.” (=^ ◡ ^=)

Her voice was smooth and charming.

Just the right amount of sexy.

“And I’ll be taking you with me to the CorePath Tech Event, where we’ll be unveiling yours truly and Shawn Beaumont as the official voices and avatars of the new Core AI! Yaaay~!”

She winked and flashed a playful thumbs up.

“Now, come on in! ❤️”

She turned and her wavy hair swayed lightly as the camera followed her inside.

Since the latest SMPE, Beca had become one of CorePath’s most valuable sponsorships.

A marketing goldmine, really. They’d made her the face of their newest game, the star of their phone ads, even the poster girl for their tech launch countdowns.

Turns out, people would buy anything if it was advertised by a beautiful woman.

Especially if that woman was Beca Morgan.

Or as the public knew her — Vixen.

CorePath’s market shares exploded overnight.

Their market activity? Quadrupled.

Tech nerds and influencers alike flocked to every new release she promoted.

Now, as they filmed, the cameras captured Beca’s morning routine — her makeup artist dabbing foundation, her stylist running a comb through her silky hair.

The cosmetics team, though, looked like they were constantly second-guessing themselves.

Like every other time, they whispered the same thing.

“She’s just… already perfect.” (ᗒᗣᗕ)՞

“If we put too much, we’ll ruin it.”

“Too little, and it looks like we didn’t work.”

In the end, they settled on a light natural touch.

Beca chuckled softly at the camera.

“I’ve never really been a big fan of makeup…”

Her stylist sprayed her hair as she talked.

“My mom, my sisters — and well, yours truly — we’re just not into it.”

She smiled and leaned closer.

“I actually tried to be an ambassador for a makeup brand once… not gonna say who.”

She winked.

The cameraman blushed immediately.

The director sighed dramatically and smacked him on the back of the head.

“Professionalism, please.”

They focused back on her.

Beca tilted her head slightly and shrugged.

“Anyway, they didn’t pick me. Not that I wanna brag, but I guess their plans didn’t work too well when the model already looks flawless.”

The crew laughed lightly — except two cameramen, who were sweating bullets because the director had just started scrolling through their raw footage.

His expression darkened.

“Why are all these shots just… her chest? Or feet?!”

Both men froze.

“We’re disgusting…” one whispered in shame.

Beca threw them a sharp side-eye.

They both stood up straight instantly and pretended they’d never heard of a “fetish” before.

Then the door opened.

The atmosphere changed immediately.

“It’s… it’s Shawn Beaumont!” (ᗒ⩊ᗕ)

One of the stylists gasped, hands over her mouth.

The makeup girls went into collective fangirl mode.

“I didn’t think he’d actually come here!”

“Well, duh, he’s such a gentleman! He probably came to check on Beca!”

“AWWW! ❤️”

They all cooed dramatically.

Shawn walked in, slicked his golden hair back, and flashed that perfect celebrity smile.

“Heya!”

Beca blinked once.

Then her face soured like she’d bitten a lemon.

It wasn’t that she didn’t like Shawn.

She did, but only as a person.

He was charming, polite, even funny.

Still, the media just wouldn’t stop trying to paint them as the new “it couple” of CorePath Industries.

Beca folded her arms as her cheeks puffed up.

『I REALLY hate that they’re doing this… I’ve even tried talking to my agent about it, but he keeps saying it’s good for PR. He doesn’t want me to ruin the big deal he’s trying to land for me with CorePath.』

She sighed inwardly, forced a polite smile, and waved.

“Hey, Shawn.” (눈_눈)

He waved back awkwardly. “Uh… hi?”

Beca looked away. This was going to be a long day.

Shawn, of course, had no idea.

He was a world-famous musician who’d only planned to license his music for CorePath’s new earbuds. But the marketing department had other ideas — “Beca for the tech bros, Shawn for the ladies” and it was working a lot more than they expected.

Now, they’d seen each other so often they could probably guess each other’s lunch orders.

Shawn sat beside her and flashed another grin.

“You look really nice in that nightdress, yunno?”

The makeup girls looked at Beca expectantly.

They were hungry for any hint of romance.

“Imagine if she asks if he’s eaten—!?”

“Aww, they look so great together!” (´꒳`)♡

There was no real way to tell if they were right for each other, especially since Beca hadn’t even shown the slightest sign of being interested in him. But people just loved the idea of two good-looking people dating.

Instead, Beca gave him a sisterly pat on the head.

“Thanks, little man. Let me finish this up real quick.”

Ouch.

Shawn froze while the crew held back their laughter.

The director clapped his hands.

“Alright, rolling!”

Beca straightened up and turned back to the camera.

“This is my hair and makeup! Feeling very classy today.”

She pointed at the elegant black lace dress on the rack.

“This was made by Freya — I love their designs. It’s a little see-through though, kinda exposing… tee-hee. But hey, I’m sure the guys won’t complain.”

Her fox ears twitched playfully.

The director actually clutched his chest in delight.

He mouthed “I love her so much” and gasped.

He didn’t think it would be this easy to do a shoot with a pretty woman. Most ladies like Mighty Lass were too proud, and the last time he worked with Lady Fortress, she’d been way too serious and formal.

Beca crouched slightly to show off her shoes.

They were fancy black and gold slingbacks.

“And these are also Freya. They’re custom-fit ’cause I’ve got tiny feet — don’t wanna crush my little buns.”

She bit the strap gently, squinting at the camera with a flirty grin.

Shawn just stared — completely enchanted.

Then, Beca clapped in a “chop chop” manner.

“Aight, I’ve got a car to catch in twenty. Love y’all, and I hope you’ll be at the event today.”

She plucked at her nightdress strap and winked sexily.

“I’ve gotta go change — but I’m sure you guys don’t wanna watch that.”

Every cameraman nodded… a little too eagerly.

Ten minutes later, the door opened again.

Out stepped Beca Morgan — fully dressed in her sleek black lace dress, leather jacket hugging her body, and her fox tail swishing softly behind her. Her heels clicked on the floor as her jewelry glittered expensively.

“Alright, guys, time to go! ❤️”

She struck a pose.

The director threw up his arms.

“THAT WAS PERFECT!”

He rushed over and grabbed her shoulders as he shook her excitedly.

“Beca, you are amazing! Honestly, I wanted CorePath to pick Bella Trevors — she’s got the big following and knack for anything, even if it’s a tech crowd — but they went with you instead.”

Beca’s face fell a little.

“Because I’m the cheaper option, right?”

She wasn’t angry or disappointed about it.

She just wished there was an agency out there that actually wanted her as their first-choice ambassador.

But that felt almost impossible.

Most people thought she made erotic content like her sister, and the rest just didn’t want her at all. The few that did were usually the ones who started off by saying “you won’t be needing clothes for the ads” before anything else.

『I mean, I like sexy stuff…』

She groaned inwardly.

『But… like… not when it’s the only thing…』 ( ̄︿ ̄)

The director laughed nervously.

“W-, Well, yes! But—!”

He raised a finger dramatically.

“You’re better. Way better. You’ve got charisma, timing, and that natural charm!”

Beca blinked, clearly taken aback.

“Wait… really?” (⊙.⊙)?

The crew all nodded enthusiastically.

“You’re great to work with!”

“Super chill!”

“You actually listen!”

Shawn gave her a thumbs-up.

“Yeah, you’re awesome.”

For once, Beca didn’t know what to say.

Her face turned red as she smiled softly at all of them.

“Thanks, guys…”

Her tail wagged once — just a little.

━ ━ ━ ━

A black limousine glided through the city streets.

It was on its way to the CorePath Tech Summit.

Inside the car, there was nothing but silence.

Or more accurately, quiet boredom.

Beca sat comfortably in her corner of the leather seat, one leg crossed over the other, eyes buried in her phone. Her silky hair glimmered under the faint interior lighting, and the soft pop of her chewing gum occasionally broke the silence.

Across from her sat Shawn Beaumont, nervously adjusting his sleeves like a man about to face an audience.

He’d tried to start up some kind of convo during the past half hour, but it was like talking to a wall.

A beautiful, perfectly polished, fully uninterested wall.

“So… uh…”

Shawn began again, clearing his throat.

“You like traveling, right?” (¯ . ¯٥)

One of the many stupid questions he’d ask tonight.

Beca didn’t look up. “Yup.”

“Cool, cool…”

He nodded awkwardly.

“So what’s your favorite country?”

“Switzerland.”

“Ah, yeah. Nice mountains and chocolate.”

“Mhm.”

“Haaaave… you ever been to Japan?”

“Twice.”

“Ever thought about visiting Greece?”

“Already did.”

Shawn blinked.

“Okay, wow. Uh… what’s your favorite pet?”

“Dogs.”

He tried to smile. “Why not cats?”

Beca immediately gave him a side-eye.

The answer was written all over her body.

But just to humor him, she decided to respond.

“Too lazy.”

“Right, right…”

By now he could already tell how stupid the earlier question was, but he didn’t stop.

“So dogs ’cause they’re more hardworking?”

“Because they play a lot.” (¬ ¬)

“Ah.” σ( ̄, ̄〃)

Shawn swallowed hard.

This was harder than performing at a sold-out concert.

He drummed his fingers against his knee awkwardly.

Then tried again.

“If you were a food, what would you be?”

“Steak.”

He blinked. “Steak?”

“Medium rare.”

“Why?”

“I dunno… because everyone likes me but not everyone can handle me.”

Pop!

The gum snapped sharply between her lips.

Shawn froze for a second, unsure if she was joking or flirting or both. Then he realized—nope, she was back on her phone again, scrolling through something.

He sighed deeply and looked out the window.

“This is impossible…”

He muttered wearily.

Her fingers tapped the screen rapidly as the sound of quick typing echoed in the quiet limo.

Then came another pop.

Shawn wasn’t sure what was more annoying — the gum, the tapping, or the way she could answer him perfectly without even looking up.

Still, he couldn’t stop admiring her.

Even when she ignored him, she looked effortlessly beautiful.

After a moment, he tried again.

“Uhm… Beca?”

She rolled her eyes subtly and sighed, lowering her phone just enough to glance at him.

“Yeah?” (¬_¬;)

He smiled nervously and scratched the back of his neck.

“I was just wondering—”

“You’re always wondering.”

She cut in smoothly.

She was teasing him, but her tone was still detached.

“Go on…”

The limousine went quiet.

She finally looked up, saw his awkward expression, and gave a small, soft smile.

“That was a joke.”

Pop!

Her gum went off again.

“Uh, yeah, I… I got that…”

Shawn muttered and sunk deeper into his seat.

He hesitated a bit, then leaned slightly toward her.

“I just… I don’t think you’re all that into relationships, are you? Or is it just me? Maybe you’re… like, I don’t know, a lesbian or something—”

He instantly waved his hands in panic.

“Not—NOT that it’s bad! I- I mean, I totally respect that if you are!”

Beca’s eyes slowly slid toward him like a cat who’d just been disturbed mid-nap.

“Yeah, I’m not into relationships. Happy?”

Her voice was calm — very calm.

Shawn slumped back in defeat.

“Yeah.” (⇀‸↼‶)

He turned his head away, watching the city blur by through the tinted glass.

If only that were true.

In reality, Beca was going crazy from her daily routine.

And what was that routine? Staring at her phone all day and hoping Scott would finally text her.

Sometimes she’d even go on the web to search for tips on how to get his attention.

When that didn’t help, she’d message her younger sister for advice. There was no way she’d ask Alys (Foxgirl) about boy stuff—so Cecilia was definitely her best option.

Her screen was filled with countless unsent messages and deleted drafts.

[Hey.]

[You alive?]

[So you’re just gonna ghost me, huh?]

[I’m way too old to be all over you, boy! Answer me!]

[I know you’re Nightwatch! And I know you know that I know about this! DON’T PRETEND!]

[Forget it.]

She bit her lip.

『Ugh… this is pathetic.』

Every few seconds, she’d switch to another tab to search for random relationship advice like:

[How to get a guy to text you first.]

[Signs he’s thinking about you.]

[Should I text him again or move on?]

[Are handsome guys jerks?]

Her tail twitched slightly beside her, flicking against the leather seat.

Then she opened another chat — Cecilia 🦊💬.

[Beca: Hey, you still up?]

[Cecilia: It’s 11am here. Normal people are awake.]

[Beca: I’m dying 💀]

[Cecilia: Lemme guess, you’re still thinking about that Scott guy? 🙄]

[Beca: Psssh, shut up!]

[Cecilia: 😂 That means yes.]

Beca pouted a little then typed quickly.

[Beca: Whatever. What do I even do? He hasn’t texted me since the museum.]

[Cecilia: Maybe he’s shy. Or busy. Or surrounded by hot girls like always.]

Beca frowned.

Maybe she should’ve talked with Alys instead.

[Beca: That doesn’t help.]

[Cecilia: Then make a move! You’re Beca Morgan, for crying out loud. Use your charm! Wink. Flip your hair. Pretend to drop your phone. Works every time. 🤔 Uhm, if you ever even see that introvert…]

[Beca: You watch too much drama.]

[Cecilia: And you think too much.]

Pop!

She chewed her gum slowly and sighed.

『Scott McQueen… Why do you have to be so weird?』

The limo came to a stop.

Outside, flashing lights filled the street as cameras, fans, and journalists crowded behind barriers.

Shawn peeked out and smiled.

“Whoa… they really rolled out the red carpet for us.”

He turned to her and offered a hand.

“Uh, wait here. I’ll help you down.”

Before he could even move, Beca casually switched off her phone, stretched her arms lazily like a cat after a nap, and pushed the door open.

“No thanks, I got it.”

She stepped out on her own as her heels clicked softly on the red carpet, tail curling elegantly behind her.

She yawned once, then brushed her hair aside.

Shawn blinked, half-standing with his hand still mid-air.

“Right… that’s fine too, I guess…”

He climbed out quietly, shoulders sagging, while Beca blinked in confusion.

『Did I say something wrong?』 ( : ౦ ‸ ౦ : )

That was how Beca ended up here.

–

–

–

And now—

She and Scott McQueen stood face to face inside the Woodhull Event Center.

Scott’s eyes twitched slightly.

『I don’t even know what to say to her… I haven’t seen or talked to her since the museum thing. And I didn’t text her either. She’s probably still mad.』

He wanted to sigh, but even that felt awkward.

Meanwhile, Beca’s pulse was going crazy.

Her fox ears stood straight.

Her palms were slightly sweaty.

And her tail was twitching like a guilty metronome.

『I’m so glad he’s alright… I wish he could’ve at least texted me back though.』

Then she stopped herself.

『NO! I was the one who ghosted him first because he had too many girls around him! But… yunno… finding out he’s also Nightwatch!? Ugh, why’s he so COOL!?』

She clenched her fists quietly.

『Hnnn~』 ( >///< )

She looked calm on the outside but she was shrieking like a highschool on the inside.

『Alright, calm down, Beca. Deep breaths.』

She puffed her cheeks like a determined little baby.

It looked more adorable than inspirational.

『You got this.』

She straightened her back, let her lips curve into a smooth smile, and tilted her head.

“Mmm~ Scott McQueen at to a public event? My, my… the world must be ending.”

Scott smiled faintly.

“Yeah, well, I bought some shares in CorePath. Figured I might as well come see what I invested in.”

He glanced at her — the black lace dress hugging her perfectly, her light makeup highlighting her already stunning face, her hair styled just right.

Everything about her was flawless.

“How’ve you been, Beca? Anything new?”

He leaned forward a little and gently brushed her wavy bangs aside.

That simple touch made her heart skip.

『He really did the hair move? That’s cheating!』

She screamed internally as her cheeks heated slightly.

But on the outside, she smirked coolly.

“Well, you could say I’m at a crossroads… balancing hero work with the whole celebrity business. But hey, can’t say I’m not enjoying both.”

She gave him a slow, sexy look.

Out of nowhere, smooth classical music sounded.

It was the hall’s string quartet.

Beca turned slightly and smiled at the crowd.

Other guests were already dancing.

“Ooo… classical music. Fancy~”

She looked back at Scott with narrow eyes.

“Won’t you take me for a spin?”

Before he could answer, she stepped closer as her soft hands rested on his shoulders.

Her fingertips squeezed slightly.

『So broad…』

She felt her heartbeat quicken.

Cecilia’s words flashed in her head—

[Use your charm. Wink. Flip your hair. Take the shot.]

Beca nodded quietly.

『Alright, Cece… here goes nothing.』

She pressed her body lightly against his chest as her tail flicked behind her.

Scott froze, looking down at her — at those golden eyes looking up with quiet intent.

“Uh…”

And just like that, time slowed.

Surely, this wasn’t part of the plan.
