Chapter 429 – Worthless
The universe began to stink. The stench was dangerous, and one could taste the electric tension in the air.
All around the corners, battles were raging. Now, that was not something unusual in itself, for battles and wars would always rage no matter what one did.
But this time, it was not if battles were occurring, but who was fighting. And that was where everything changed.
The Elysiari had attacked beings of very high station inside the universe — the Origins themselves and the Legacy Holders.
These types of battles could not go unnoticed for too long, especially if they were happening in such huge numbers.
In the domain of the Divine Beast, Selene and Elira were still fighting against Laka, the Bloodline Sage. They had done all they could, using every resource available to them, and yet… they were still losing.
No, it went far beyond that. Let alone killing him, they found themselves unable to even wound the insufferable golden fur of the rat, all because of the golden fog clinging to their skin like the coiling of a snake.
Their bloodlines were locked. Added to that, their laws, authority, and domain were pitiful when facing a Myriad Creator who had spent thousands upon thousands of years refining his understanding.
And all of that, without Laka even using his divine beast transformation, his true form.
Selene and Elira were completely flabbergasted, their minds struggling to find reasons behind such weakness.
Inside Selene, Luminara cursed furiously again and again.
She was shaking, refusing to come out of Selene, for Laka would certainly recognize her. Added to that, in her current state, she would not be able to defeat Laka.
That meant the only way to defeat him was for her to unseal her power. And that would undoubtedly mean that both she and Selene would be found.
She couldn’t afford that. She sincerely couldn’t, yet she achingly realized she had no choice.
The women refused to use their rings to escape, and Noah’s safety measures were the only things keeping them alive. They could not win.
They were weak.
Luminara cursed again, her heart filled with indignation. She began to pray. She began to pray for Noah’s timely help, yet the next event that happened with the rings snuffed out all possible hope.
Selene and Elira felt their rings suddenly heating up, then flames exploded outward from them. Their brows knitted together as they felt immense pain.
But that pain was drowned by the deep realization sent to them by the rings.
Once again, Luminara cursed.
She prepared herself to come out, and the calling became stronger.
She trembled, sank her teeth deep into her lips, then finally came out.
Laka immediately widened his eyes at the sight of Luminara.
“Holy Father of Nika!”
His pipe fell, his eyes dilating.
Far away, a being staggered upright, looking in the direction of Luminara with his single galaxy-sized eye.
He stretched his mouth open, then…
He howled.
Luminara and Selene trembled.
Once again, Luminara cursed with trembling lips.
But that was not the only place where things went south.
Emmie and Aphasia were trapped in a never-ending loop of timelines, killed again and again by Tiamat and Ouroboros, yet they managed to revive each time with their Laws.
But their minds were breaking.
And they knew that if they didn’t die, they would certainly go mad before their souls shattered.
Still…
“It’s not goddamn over, fucking reptiles!” Emmie bellowed, tears of blood trickling down her cheeks.
She was going to die, she knew. But she would be damned if she ever died alone. These two goddamn lizards would follow her to the Spirit World or to oblivion.
It didn’t matter.
She wouldn’t go alone.
So she cackled, her mind drowning in madness, as she flicked her finger.
“Gold Law — Corruption!”
She began to corrupt the very prison of the time loop they were trapped in, with Aphasia following, her eyes colder than even Selene’s, half of her body munched off by Tiamat’s jaws.
“Spirit Law, Fusion — Time and Destruction Spirits.”
The whole world exploded, and far in the distance one could hear the roar of an angry dragon and the hiss of a snake.
The battle raged on, and that was even when their rings began to burn, showing them the dire state of the Buntu.
Yet they had no time to fear nor worry.
They would trust them to succeed. Or if not…
“Let’s meet in the Spirit Realm, then! Hahahahaah!” Emmie cackled, spun on her heels, then struck with calamitous force.
Gold exploded, the sky fractured, then fell.
Meanwhile, Sophie and Emily were going against Death itself, and what a dreadful thing to face. The battle had only just begun, but the ending was not looking bright.
All of the women had begun their fights, and only a few among them believed they could win.
These numerous events caused many to realize that there was a group of people targeting the Origins and those who held them.
And it didn’t take too long for anyone to know that those behind such acts were the new faction announced years ago.
The Elysiari, they called themselves, with Noah Vaelgrim, Third Abomination, as their Progenitor.
Some began to scoff at their foolishness.
They were fools, many thought, who would soon learn the true depth of the universe.
Already, numerous factions began to pay attention to the remaining beings who held Origins, and to the other Origins themselves.
The King in the North became aware of it, and did and said nothing. He had nothing to say, choosing instead to focus on his next battle with the Mother of Change.
The Mother of Change herself remained like the King, completely silent.
Not because she had nothing to say, but because the matter did not deserve her attention.
She had no time to spare for overconfident idiots who thought themselves masters of the universe just because the Records looked at them with soft eyes.
She was not the only one thinking that.
Everyone did.
And the women began to feel the scorn of the universe on their shoulders, and oh…
How crushing it was.
Unconsciously, they let those emotions sink deep inside them. Next came the wavering of their initial confidence, and the beginning of whispers.
Whispers of doubt.
Those whispers were barely heard at the beginning, but now they were overwhelming, wrapping around their heads in a tight, sinister hug.
A hug meant to corrupt away their very beings.
They stood strong, yet slowly and steadily, each one of them was slowly crumbling like castles made of sand.
Weak.
Wretched.
Pitiful.
Worthless.
That was what they were, they realized. And that realization would come with their death.
Regrets began to creep inside them, and their urge to call Noah for help began to overwhelm them.
Yet they did not.
If they were to die, they preferred to do so without showing their miserable current selves to him.
That was their decision. So they fought, with death inside their heads.
Inside the Buntu, Noah could sense all of this happening.
More than anything, he found himself unable to lift the minds of his wives, with his opponent standing in front of him.
Noah did not need anyone to tell him that he would be killed against Luelle. After all, the very fact of standing in front of her was unbearable.
It was as if he were facing the universe itself. And Noah felt the humiliating urge to back away and flee.
Luelle was just that obscene.
But what did he expect? Luelle was a Progenitor. A Pillar.
Evadam was more a scholar than anything, his ambition never on power. But Luelle was…and Noah could see his deaths no matter the futures he peered into.
Still, he pointed his finger at her, threatening her.
His blind and whimpering wives behind him were stunned by his words, but the next words of Noah surprised them even more.
“Now, now, now,” Noah said, cracking his neck, “it’s time to go crazy, ladies.”
He grinned.
“I won’t win this one without you, so get up.”
They trembled.
Not only them, his voice reverberated inside all of his wives.
“I know it hurts. But you have to stand up. We are not done yet. We said we would take these Origins, and we will…even if we have to die in the process.”
His eyes were steady.
“So, stand up.” He said finally, then raised his head toward the sky of his Buntu. Luelle and Orien watched him as if he were a clown made to entertain them.
But his next words made their eyes widen in shock.
“Everything.” Noah whispered, his voice reverberating all around the universe for some reason.
Instantly, all began to listen. The women even more.
“I am Nytherion Il’Varethos, and I sacrifice every achievement and title I have earned since the beginning of my journey for one minute.”
The universe paused. The wives began to shriek, starting to claw at Noah, begging him to stop.
He didn’t.
Luelle was too strong for him. He could only sacrifice everything to win.
So Noah grinned, madness dancing inside his eyes, looking at Luelle, whose own eyes had widened.
“Just one goddamn minute,” he swore, “and I will kill you, Luelle.”
His words were heard by the Records. They hesitated, conveying the terrible cost. But finally…
{Granted.}
The wives, his children, and Laeh cried in horror.
