Chapter 1310: Bidding Farewell
Adam had chosen not to go to the conference for obvious reasons.
Instead, he spent his time in his private quarters within the Tsuitsui Clan’s residence, thoroughly studying the scroll containing actionable intel that the cloaked figure—now known as the Heavenly Demon—had given him.
He had to admit, there was a lot of information in that scroll, and he had to spend several days committing it to heart. The importance of that scroll could not be emphasized enough.
So this is what’s been happening, eh? He thought to himself, his heart gripped by dark emotions.
However, he couldn’t act on the intel at the moment. Right now, he couldn’t cast spells, his mind was shattered, his soul was recuperating, and he was severely weakened.
Only after he advanced to the Mana Core Rank could he finally act. At that point, he wouldn’t have to hide in the shadows and scheme. At that point… he could be utterly brazen about his actions, and there would be fewer than a handful of people who could obstruct him.
But just being a Mana Core Magus wouldn’t be enough, he thought.
To make a difference, I have to get to the level of the Cult Leader, the Acadian Emperor, and the Hidden Ruler of Yen-Lu.
For that, I need time!
Heh! But the place I’m going to… time would become relative, wouldn’t it?
That is my only shot at healing myself and advancing to the Mana Core Rank!
Knock! Knock!
Adam snapped out of his thoughts and quickly put away the scroll inside his storage ring.
“Auhh?”
“Lord Ao, all preparations are complete. We are ready to leave.”
“Auhh-auhh!”
The Magus outside couldn’t understand a thing he said, so he could only reply with:
“Y-yes, understood.”
Since the vicennial gathering had concluded, all the sects and clans were ready to depart from Yuanshi.
Adam planned to go to the Tsuitsui Clan with Goro and Reika. They had claimed they could heal his severely scarred body. Though this opportunity came with strings attached, Adam gladly accepted it. He didn’t know if he’d ever be able to come by such an opportunity again.
His flesh could be healed by the Tsuitsui Clan, home to the greatest healers—and poison masters—in Yen-Lu.
As for his eyes…
I have an idea about where I can get a new pair, he thought to himself solemnly.
Soon, he packed his belongings, slipped into a set of new robes, and was now ready to leave.
***
In the grand courtyard of the Tsuitsui Clan’s residence, a few familiar faces had gathered. They were chatting with Goro and Reika Tsuitsui.
Adam relaxedly walked towards them, whistling a merry tune. He had white strips of cloth covering his body, including his face. On top of that, he wore loose silk robes. Furthermore, a black scarf was tied around his head, covering everything above his nostrils.
“Brother Ao!” Hearing his arrival, Bai Xun cupped his fists and greeted him with a warm smile.
“Brother Ao,” Bai Ge greeted soon after.
The Sword Dragon and the Sword Phoenix had come to bid their farewell.
“Auhh!” Adam waved at them. He approached the group and stood there with a faint smile on his face.
“This is where we part,” Bai Xun stated with a wry smile.
He and several other Elders of the Baihua Sect were disappointed that they hadn’t been able to formally induct Adam into the sect. However, there was nothing that could be done about it. Strict protocols laid down by generations of Baihua Sect Magi had to be followed.
An outsider, especially one at the Mana Vortex Rank, could not be formally admitted into the sect.
“Brother Ao, I’m grateful for the training you’ve given us, and to the children of our sect.” Bai Ge cupped her fists and bowed slightly.
Adam waved his hand, and several crates of eggs appeared on the ground.
Bai Xun’s lips twitched as he saw the eggs, remembering the mana control training they had to go through.
“Auhh-auhh!” Adam gestured with his hands a few times.
Bai Ge said with a forced smile, “I suppose this is your parting gift to us?”
“Auhh!” Adam nodded.
“We have something for you as well,” Bai Xun said with a light chuckle.
He then presented Adam with a pentagonal disk carrying the insignia of the Baihua Sect.
“This symbolises your friendship with the Baihua Sect,” Bai Xun said with a faint smile. “If you show this to any establishments in Yen-Lu owned by our sect, they will treat you with utmost care and respect.”
Oh? So a VIP token, Adam thought to himself as he examined the disk. Then he put it away.
He cupped his fist and said in a cheerful voice, “Auhh!”
“Why are you guys acting like you’ll never meet again?” Goro asked, confused.
Everyone turned toward him.
Goro continued, “The way I see it, the Fourth Great War is imminent. It is only a matter of time until we all fight on the frontlines together.”
At the mention of the Fourth Great War, everyone’s expression became solemn.
However, none of them realized that the one who had sparked this war was standing among them…
Reika turned to her brother and helplessly said, “Can you be any more tactless?”
“Huh?” Goro innocently scratched his head. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No, you’re right, Brother Goro.” Bai Xun nodded with a grim look in his eyes. “War is indeed coming.”
“We need to leave soon and inform our sect about what has happened at the vicennial gathering,” Bai Ge solemnly added.
Then the two parties bid farewell to one another. The Tsuitsui Clan’s carriages were already prepared to leave and were on standby outside the clan’s residence.
“We should depart as well.” Reika headed for the carriage, followed by several of her disciples.
“When we reach home, we’re going to eat a lot of grilled meat and we’re going to train like there’s no tomorrow!” Goro grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
He finally had someone to spar with back home!
“Oh, and there’s another person who’ll be traveling with us,” Goro added casually. “He’s also quite interested in meeting you.”
“Auhh?” Adam tilted his head.
As they exited the gate, they saw an elderly man waiting for them outside. He was nonchalantly drinking alcohol from his clay gourd.
Adam’s lips twitched. He could clearly sense the man’s aura and strength, yet he was surprised at how he was dressed.
This guy… what?
The guy in question turned to Adam, and his eyes lit up. He wiped his mouth with his tattered sleeves, then cupped his fists and introduced himself.
“Master Ao, the blind warrior who battled the mighty Venom Dragon to a draw! I am Ragged Sage Bei. It is nice to finally meet you!”
Adam was dumbfounded.
What… what the hell?
A beggar?
A strong beggar!
