Chapter 1249: Beautiful Night

Adam did not wait for the opponent to make the first move. The moment the Blades of Fulgrim settled in his hands, he disappeared from his spot.

Before anyone knew it, he was already right before the burly man from the Demon Fist Sect. No one could see his movements—not even the Magi at the Mana Vortex Rank.

One moment he was there, the next he wasn’t.

No spells were used. It was pure skill. With a wide grin etched on his face, Adam raised his hands and viciously brought down the twin blades.

Hisato Arakane of the Demon Fist Sect, however, was immediately startled. But he, too, was an expert who had fought countless battles. Thus, after the initial surprise, he quickly got into position as he raised his guantleted hands forward in a defensive manner.

It was too late to cast spells—Adam did not give him any room to weave hand seals—so he imbued his hands with mana and prepared to take the full brunt of the madman’s attack.

Sword light flashed, and in the next instant… hot blood sprayed in the air.

Adam arrived a few steps behind the burly man. He flicked the blades, wiping the blood off them. Then, he burst into a crazed fit of laughter.

“Demon fist? That all of you got, princess?” He roared to the skies.

Behind him, Hisato Arakene heard two dull thuds back to back. He lowered his head in a daze, only to see his hands severed clean off from the elbows. They lay on the ground in a pool of blood, fingers twitching from time to time.

“Ah…” A surprised yelp escaped from the burly man’s lips. Then the pain instantly registered, and he let out a scream full of anguish.

“AHHH—”

His screams were cut off abruptly when Adam suddenly appeared like a ghost. Squatting on the man’s shoulders, he drove the Blades of Fulgrim straight through his chest, instantly snuffing the life out of him.

He jumped off the shoulders of the falling corpse, arms wide as he did a backflip in mid air. Just as he landed on the ground, he cocked his head back and let out a laugh filled with excitement and madness.

“Come! All of youse!” He roared. “What a beautiful night for a massacre!”

For a moment, everyone on the battlefield froze. No one had expected Adam to kill a Mana Vortex Magus so quickly and viciously. Add to that the sound of his manic laughter that continued to ring through the plain, they couldn’t help but want to flee.

But right at that moment, a handsome swordsman in white robes took a step forward and spoke words of encouragement:

“Do not worry, brothers. He is but one man, and we are a small army of a hundred! He was only able to kill Hisato because he took the man by surprise. Never again! Prepare for battle!”

Adam turned to look at the man who had just spoken. He was a tall and slender man with fair skin. Just looking at his handsome appearance made Adam’s expression turn dark.

“Grrr, I don’t like the way you look,” he grumbled under his breath.

Hearing the swordsman’s words, many Magi found their courage, but most still hesitated to fight Adam. After all, the performance the madman had just displayed was truly blood-chilling.

The handsome swordsman delivered the final nail as he added, “Do not forget the treasures on this outsider! A Grade 4 cloak, and those twin blades are also of the same grade! Who knows what else he must have stored inside that strange, living bag! Fight with me, brothers!”

And that was all the encouragement they needed. If the certainty of victory due to outnumbering the enemy wasn’t enough, inciting one’s greed always did the job. Adam knew this very well because he, too, was a very greedy man.

Instantly, the eyes of these adventurers and mercenaries turned feral, gleaming with avarice. Once again, they surrounded Adam. But this time, they were methodical about it.

Mana Liquefaction Magi formed the perimeter. In between them, Mana Vortex Magi nestled in strategic locations. As for the Mana Foundation Magi… no one bothered about them. As far as they were concerned, these weak little greedy fellows had only come here to die.

“Ah, I see,” Adam said with a wide grin. “So that’s what this is about. You all were lovestruck by the artifacts I wield, and now you want them for yourselves. I see, I see.”

The next moment, Adam imbued mana into the Blades of Fulgrim, and they were engulfed in searing hot flames in an instant. Then, with a fluid motion, he loosened his hold around the grips, allowing the blades to hang from the chains attached to their pommels.

And then, he erupted in a whirlwind of fire and madness.

Adam’s figure moved with the vicious, blood-chilling grace of a natural-born killer. Red mists, embers of madness, and howls of agony surrounded him like a bloody cloak.

The chains whipped through the air with astonishing speed, their flaming, razor-sharp blades slicing into any Magi within range. Of course, most of the casualties were the Mana Liquefaction Magi. Regardless, they all died like flies.

The chaotic dance of chains and blades turned the grassy plain into a storm of metal, fire, and pure carnage. In the first few seconds, close to a dozen Mana Liquefaction Magi had perished. And all the while, Adam expertly weaved through any spells that were hurled at him.

In the dark of the night, his movements looked beautiful and mesmerizing, but also haunting and ominous.

As the corpses of the Mana Liquefaction Magi piled up around him, Adam finally found the chance to close in on the handsome swordsman he had had his eyes on. According to him, this swordsman—the de facto leader of this band of pursuers—was the strongest of them all.

Dodging a hail of ice spears and poison arrows, Adam’s figure turned into a ghostly silhouette as he arrived before the swordsman.

With a wide grin etched on his face, he gripped the Blades of Fulgrim tightly in his hands and slashed in such a manner that it was very hard to evade.

At the last possible second, just before Adam’s blades were about to shred the swordsman’s body, two katanas shot from the man’s shadow, thrusting straight for his face.

Clang!

Adam’s attack was deflected by the wielders of the two katanas. He quickly retreated from the handsome swordsman, who hadn’t even moved.

The next moment, two men dressed in black appeared from the swordsman’s shadow, guarding his flanks, while the swordsman himself had a faint, carefree smile on his face.

As for Adam…

Crack!

His kitsune mask split along the side.
