Capítulo 484: A Quiet Boost in Power

By changing how things played out for Lu Yi in Roaring River Martial City, Jiang Chen had managed to steal three waves of opportunities from him.

The first came from Zhang Chuan and Zhang Sha of the Zhang Clan. He pretty much emptied out everything their clan owned.

But even though the Zhang Clan was respectable at the Nirvana Peering level, their wealth couldn’t compare to what cultivators of the same realm carried in the Purple Crest Immortal Sect or the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace.

Aside from a few hundred thousand low-grade spirit jades, all they had were some fairly ordinary natural treasures.

As for their jade slips on cultivation methods, Jiang Chen barely spared them a glance—they were useless to him.

Lu Yi’s own cultivation method, the one he had used for trading, was decent, but Jiang Chen had already outgrown it.

At his current stage, only Void Tribulation–level cultivation methods were worth his time.

The second wave came from killing Ju Jingyan—another person influenced by Heavenly Fate who had shown up in Roaring River Martial City just to hand benefits to Lu Yi.

He had a frighteningly sharp pupil technique—strong enough to see through Lu Yi’s disguise without any effort.

On top of that, he carried a huge stockpile of cultivation resources, including an impressive amount of spirit jades.

Ju Jingyan really was loaded, Jiang Chen thought.

And this Heavenly Manifestation Glazed Pupil Art… it’s practically on the level of a Half-step Void Tribulation–level cultivation method.

If Lu Yi had gotten his hands on it and perfected it, his ability to see through others would’ve jumped to a whole new level.

Even though he couldn’t see through the innate concealment granted by Jiang Chen’s Underworld Calamity Indestructible Dao Embryo, he might still have been able to pierce through normal illusion techniques.

If that happened, slipping into different identities in front of him would’ve become a problem.

Good thing I killed Ju Jingyan early and took all the opportunities that were supposed to go to Lu Yi, Jiang Chen thought, letting his gaze drift away from the jade slip holding the Heavenly Manifestation Glazed Pupil Art. He had no intention of practicing it.

To him, that pupil art simply wasn’t worth much. His danger sense was already razor-sharp thanks to the Underworld Calamity Indestructible Dao Embryo bloodline.

Not to mention, with his complete grasp of the Illusion Dao—and the backing of two genuine Void Tribulation realm great powerhouses, Nangong Wan and Shangguan Ning—there were probably only cultivators at the Fourth Step of the Cultivation Path who could hope to fool him now.

Aside from that impressive pupil technique, the treasures Jiang Chen took from Ju Jingyan were far richer than anything he’d gotten from the Zhang Clan. There were more than five hundred thousand low-grade spirit jades, hundreds of Nirvana Peering-level spiritual plants, and several dozen at the Nirvana Cleansing level.

The rest of the treasures came in all kinds of shapes and forms—far more than he expected.

Jiang Chen even suspected the old man had stumbled upon some cave-dwelling inheritance in the past, then, realizing he had no hope of breaking through, decided to hand it off to someone else… only to happen to run into Lu Yi.

Even so, Ju Jingyan’s entire fortune still couldn’t compare to what Su Xiangcai and the four other Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm cultivators had been carrying.

From that third wave alone, Jiang Chen collected more than ten million low-grade spirit jades.

He also gained a heap of rare treasures, a wide variety of pills, and several powerful weapons and artifacts.

Those five had come completely prepared.

Each of them carried at least two top-grade Nirvana Peering–rank artifacts.

If Lu Yi had gotten his hands on all of that, his rise would’ve been guaranteed.

Jiang Chen sorted through the spoils, feeling satisfied. This time, the pure cultivation base, the spiritual plants, and even the qi and blood energy I collected aren’t bad at all. Even the weapons and artifacts are worth using.

Alright… let’s start with the pure cultivation base. I’m curious how much it’ll boost me.

With a single thought, he drew out the pure cultivation stored within the Underworld Calamity Indestructible Dao Embryo.

A massive wave of clean, overwhelming power surged into him at once. His physique hardened even further, and both the quality and amount of his Immortal Origin Power rose steadily without pause.

Jiang Chen only used the pure cultivation he got from killing Su Xiangcai and the other four. The one he gained from Chao Xin stayed untouched, saved as a hidden trump card.

Even with just the cultivation from Su Xiangcai’s group, he absorbed five Great Dao laws he had never grasped before.

They were the Qi Dao, Wave Dao, Ignition Dao, Coagulation Dao, and Poison Dao.

Among them, the Wave Dao and Ignition Dao were the most complete.

The Wave Dao connected to many other laws—Light, Sound, Radiation, Water—making it one of the fundamentals of the universe.

Ignition, on the other hand, was tied closely to the Fire Dao. Its essence was simple: the release of energy. The more explosive the release, the stronger the Ignition Dao became.

The Coagulation Dao was a branch of the Gravity Dao, while the Poison Dao was tied to the five elements—especially the Wood Dao—and counted as a derivative law as well.

Jiang Chen had only gained about a quarter of the insights behind these five Great Dao laws, but even that was a huge harvest.

I really want to finish all forty-nine Great Dao laws sooner, he thought with a small smile before shifting his attention to the spiritual plants.

The amount he’d taken from Su Xiangcai and the others was massive—far more than what he had collected from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace and Purple Crest Immortal Sect teams he’d killed earlier.

Time to eat spiritual plants raw again, Jiang Chen thought as he pulled out a Nirvana Cleansing–level plant and tossed it straight into his mouth, chewing without hesitation.

As he ate spiritual plant after spiritual plant, their flooding medicinal essence was absorbed by the Burning World Red Lotus. In return, it poured pure cultivation power and a strange, aptitude-boosting energy back into his body.

The Burning World Red Lotus itself kept growing stronger as well. It couldn’t reach the Void Tribulation realm again anytime soon—the bottleneck was far too stubborn—but its overall condition improved by a huge margin.

Because of that, the Burning World Raging Flames under Jiang Chen’s control became even more terrifying, almost touching the Void Tribulation level.

His cultivation also advanced a good deal toward the peak of the Nirvana Cleansing realm.

Most of this growth showed in the sheer amount and quality of his Immortal Origin Power, along with the strengthening of his physique.

These might seem like basic improvements, but they were the true foundation of any cultivator—and foundations always mattered.

Jiang Chen let the qi and blood energy sit untouched. He’d save that for when he started cultivating a Void Tribulation–level method.

With that settled, he shifted his focus to Lu Yi.

That guy was already flying toward another city, probably planning to repeat the same stunt—robbing spirit jades to feed his system.

But after what happened in Roaring River Martial City, the nearby cities were already on high alert. Warnings had spread everywhere: orders from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace, frantic messages from the cultivators who’d been robbed, and all kinds of rumors fanning the flames.

Chaos swept through every city. People panicked, scrambling to get out as fast as they could.

The problem was simply numbers—too many cultivators and not enough ways to move them.

The Teleportation Halls could only send out a limited number at a time. Moving entire cities worth of people was impossible.

Only the stronger cultivators managed to escape right away, grabbing their belongings and teleporting out while everyone else was left behind in the turmoil.

Because so many people were still stuck in those cities, things were a mess.

The ones who hadn’t been able to buy their way into the teleportation arrays had no choice but to fight over the remaining spots. A few scuffles even broke out as people scrambled for a chance to leave.

All of this only made the evacuation more chaotic.

Some cultivators, realizing they’d never get access in time, gave up and flew straight out of the city, planning to hide somewhere deep in the wilderness instead.

Even so, plenty of people were still inside.

If Lu Yi made it there, Heavenly Fate definitely wouldn’t let him walk away empty-handed. With that many cultivators packed together, he’d be able to rob enough spirit jades to upgrade his system without much trouble.

I can’t let him take that step, Jiang Chen thought, a sharp glint in his eyes.

If Lu Yi managed to upgrade his system, he’d almost certainly regain some Heavenly Fate Value, pushing him back above the kill threshold. Then the trouble would start all over again.

Jiang Chen wasn’t having that. He wanted to cleanly strip away Lu Yi’s last bit of luck. Even though he trusted his own system enough to believe he could kill Lu Yi without suffering Heavenly Fate backlash, it was still safer to finish him the same way he had dealt with other so-called protagonists—after their chosen-one status had completely collapsed.

With that in mind, Jiang Chen hid his presence and picked up speed, cutting through the sky as he rushed toward the cultivator city that Lu Yi was heading for.
