Chapter 481: Refusing to Leave Empty-Handed

“How… how is that possible!? How can it be you!?” Lu Yi stared at the disguised Jiang Chen—now wearing the face of that infamous evil cultivator—completely shaken.

He had never once considered that the prodigy from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace was actually an impostor all along.

“Hmph. You’re not seeing things. This is who I really am.” Jiang Chen crossed his arms, looking far too pleased with himself.

“From the start, I knew you carried great fate. That’s why I put on that little act and followed you around—snatching chances whenever they popped up.”

“And clearly, I made the right call. Just by tailing you, I’ve grabbed a mountain of cultivation resources.”

He let out a low, crooked laugh. “With what I’ve gained, breaking through to the Nirvana Cleansing realm and carving out my own territory on the Prosperous Stone Immortal Star is only a matter of time.”

“Really, I should thank you. Keh keh keh…”

He kept weaving his lies without missing a beat, all to keep Lu Yi completely in the dark.

Lu Yi gripped his long blade, eyes narrowed at the evil cultivator. “Why disguise yourself as a prodigy of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace? That identity’s the easiest to expose.”

Jiang Chen didn’t look bothered in the slightest. A small smile tugged at his lips. “And who would dare expose me? Only the top figures of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace—and even if they denied it, how many people would actually believe them?”

He tapped his chest lightly. “Besides, I’m simply too outstanding. In everyone’s eyes, only the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace or the Purple Crest Immortal Sect could produce someone like me.”

He tilted his head, studying Lu Yi. “Plenty of people would think I was a secret genius they raised in the shadows. I’d bet you had that thought too.”

Lu Yi’s expression tightened. He really had suspected that before.

Seeing his reaction, Jiang Chen’s smile widened. “Keh keh keh… so I was right after all.”

“Lu Yi, if you think about it, I’ve actually cleared quite a few obstacles for you, haven’t I?”

“You’re a half–demon, I’m an evil cultivator. People hate us both.”

“I’ve killed members of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace and the Purple Crest Immortal Sect.” He spread his hands as if everything made perfect sense. “So naturally, we’re on the same side.”

His eyes gleamed. “How about it? Want to form an alliance?”

“An alliance?” Lu Yi let out a cold laugh. “You just want to use me as a shield—or a tool.”

His grip on the Golden Coiling Dragon Blade tightened. “Unless you kneel, swear yourself to me, and hand over everything you stole, don’t even think about it.”

The anger burning in his eyes said it all. This damned evil cultivator had taken far too many chances that should’ve been his, and now he even dared to rope him in. Despicable.

Jiang Chen let out a light, almost careless smile. “You had your chance. Since you threw it away, that’s that. We’ll each walk our own path.” He turned as if ready to leave.

Lu Yi’s teeth clenched. “Leave? You think you can just walk away?”

He lifted his blade, killing intent surging. “Ask my blade if it agrees!”

With bloodshot eyes, he lunged at the disguised Jiang Chen.

After killing Su Xiangcai and the others, the evil cultivator’s apparent strength had fallen back to the Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm.

To Lu Yi, he was nothing more than prey waiting to be butchered.

Boom!!

Blade and sword clashed, the impact shaking the air.

Then, in the middle of the roaring shockwaves, the disguised Jiang Chen suddenly burst out with Early-stage Nirvana Cleansing-level strength, using that burst of power to rocket away into the distance.

“Die!” Lu Yi bellowed, hatred burning in his chest. He locked onto Jiang Chen, pouring Immortal Origin Power madly into his blade. The swing he unleashed carved out a massive arc of light, big enough to split the sky.

“You think you can stop me? What a joke.” Jiang Chen’s lip curled as he flicked his hand, pulling out a massive gray-purple talisman.

The talisman was nearly the size of a table, covered in intricate symbols that looked deep and mysterious at a glance—far beyond what someone at his apparent level should have.

But in truth, it was nothing more than an illusion created with the Illusion Dao.

With Shangguan Ning assisting him from within the Void Tribulation Soul, the technique was something Lu Yi had no hope of seeing through.

Besides, talismans like this did exist; they were part of the space talisman research Nangong Wan had worked on.

Because of that, it looked perfectly real—so real that even sharp-eyed geniuses might be able to grasp hints of the Space Dao just by staring at it.

Lu Yi had no chance of noticing it was fake.

What? How does he have a space talisman—and one that huge!? Lu Yi stared in disbelief as the evil cultivator pulled it out, then his eyes went bloodshot when Jiang Chen vanished into the rippling space around him.

The golden arc of blade light finally crashed down, ripping open the sky before fading into the heights above.

But the figure Jiang Chen had taken on was already gone without a trace.

“Why!? Why does this keep happening!?” Lu Yi trembled, fury pouring out of him like it would tear him apart from the inside.

“I was one step—just one step—from rising above everything! Why can’t I take that step!?”

“Great fate? Me? I’m the unluckiest person in the world! Damn it, every single one of you keeps ruining my plans!”

“Ahhh! I’m so angry I could explode!” His scream echoed across the battlefield.

Then his gaze snapped toward Roaring River Martial City.

But after seeing Jiang Chen wipe out Su Xiangcai and the others in an instant, the cultivators inside were already shaken to the core.

Yang Ying and the other Nirvana Peering realm cultivators had already escaped through the teleportation array, and every Transcendence realm cultivator had gone with them.

Now only the ordinary cultivators were left, scrambling out of Roaring River Martial City in panic.

An ordinary cultivator doesn’t have much… but a crowd of them? That adds up. Lu Yi’s jaw tightened, a cold gleam flickering in his eyes. He was already everyone’s enemy—robbing people who hated him didn’t bother him in the slightest. He was ready to swoop down and strip the remaining cultivators clean.

But just then, his transmission jade token lit up.

“Huh?” His expression shifted. There was no need to guess—only one person ever contacted him.

He swept his divine sense across the jade and read Jiang Chen’s message:

“Lu Yi, did you cause some huge commotion? The Nirvana Cleansing realm powerhouses from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace suddenly changed direction. They stopped searching for me and are rushing toward you. They even used a rare spatial treasure to speed up! You’d better run—staying there is too dangerous!”

After reading the message, Lu Yi’s eyes narrowed. He drew in a long breath.

Jiang Chen told him to run, but leaving empty-handed again was the last thing he wanted.

I can’t keep coming back with nothing. If this continues, how am I supposed to grow stronger? Resolve hardened across his face, and he shot straight into Roaring River Martial City.

Boom!

A crushing Nirvana Cleansing-level aura exploded out of him.

In an instant, every ordinary cultivator who hadn’t escaped yet felt as if a mountain had dropped onto their backs. Many were forced to their knees on the spot, unable to move.

Panic swept through the entire city.

“Ah! The demon is here to kill us!”

“Half-demon Lu Yi, you bastard—may you die horribly!”

“Please spare us! We’re just ordinary cultivators, we’ve never even offended you!”

Some cursed and screamed, some begged through tears, while others made a desperate dash for the teleportation array.

But before they could reach it—

Boom!

The Teleportation Hall vanished in an instant, blasted apart until nothing remained but a giant smoking crater.
