Chapter 480: An Unexpected Turn

Back in Roaring River Martial City, Su Xiangcai had just received Liang Youwen’s orders — to hold back for now and strike only when the time was right, taking down both Lu Yi and his opponent in one move.

He turned to Sang Shenzhen and the others. “Looks like I was right. Even the Palace Master agrees.”

A faint smile tugged at his lips. “Now we can sit back and watch for a bit.”

“Good!” Sang Shenzhen and the rest nodded, their faces brightening.

“Elder Su is still as sharp as ever.”

A few of them began laughing, tossing out compliments, clearly eager to stay on his good side.

…

In the distance, where the battle raged on, Lu Yi kept part of his focus on Su Xiangcai’s group of five. They hadn’t moved an inch, and questions spun through his mind. What’s going on? Why are they just standing there?

Do they see me as nothing more than a sparring partner—to polish that so-called prodigy from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace?

Are they planning to just watch unless he’s about to die?

The thought made his blood boil. Damn it. So that’s how it is? Then today, I’ll kill every last one of you.

He drew in a deep breath, ready to push the fight toward Roaring River Martial City. If he could use the chaos to take down one of the Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm cultivators, he could seize their treasures, upgrade his system, and then turn the entire battle around with his new fusion count.

But just as he was about to act, the disguised Jiang Chen let out a sharp gasp. “Not good!” His face had gone pale, and his aura flickered unsteadily.

Seeing the sudden change in his opponent, Lu Yi’s eyes narrowed. Huh? Don’t tell me… his power-up is wearing off?

So he never actually broke through to the Nirvana Cleansing realm—just used some secret art to fake it for a while?

A mocking grin spread across his face. Hah, so that’s all it was? And you dared to fight me like this? You’re practically handing me your head.

Dropping his earlier plan to shift the fight, Lu Yi decided to end it right here.

“How can this be? How are you still holding on?” The disguised Jiang Chen staggered back, face pale, pretending to be spent.

Lu Yi chuckled darkly. “Heh, I’ve always been good at lasting longer than my enemies. You think you can outlast me? Dream on!”

With a flash of golden light, he swung the Golden Coiling Dragon Blade, aiming a brutal strike straight at Jiang Chen.

“Quick, help me!” The disguised Jiang Chen’s expression twisted, and in a blur, he barely dodged Lu Yi’s killing strike by an inch.

He shot forward, and in the next instant, nine identical figures split across the sky—the farthest one already above Roaring River Martial City.

But the moment he used that move, his aura collapsed back to the Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm. His energy flickered, his body visibly drained.

What the—? Wasn’t he about to burn out? How’s he still moving that fast? Lu Yi’s eyes widened as he watched Jiang Chen flee.

Is that just pure survival instinct kicking in? he thought, half impressed, half furious, before darting after him like a hunting beast.

Meanwhile, Su Xiangcai and his group stood frozen, struggling to make sense of what they’d just seen.

What’s he doing? they thought. He’s supposed to be an impostor from the Purple Crest Immortal Sect—if he’s out of strength, shouldn’t he be running the other way? Why in the world is he heading straight for us?

“What the hell is going on? Could it be he’s not from the Purple Crest Immortal Sect after all—and actually thinks we’re his allies?” Sang Shenzhen stared at the approaching figure, completely baffled.

Su Xiangcai’s eyes went cold. He sent out a terse transmission, “Enough guessing. Either way, he’s not one of us.”

“Hit him hard first, then capture him. We’ll sort it out later.”

Without another word, Su Xiangcai shot forward toward the disguised Jiang Chen.

The other four didn’t hesitate—they followed close behind, surrounding the supposed prodigy from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace.

“Help me! You have to help me!” Jiang Chen shouted as he flew toward them, his face lighting up with desperate relief. “That half-demon, Lu Yi—he’s too strong! I can’t hold him off!”

Completely fooled by Jiang Chen’s act, Lu Yi thought Su Xiangcai and his group—who were actually moving to attack Jiang Chen—had come to help him. A mocking grin spread across his face.

“Still trying to call for help? Fine, I’ll just kill every last one of you today! Hahaha!”

His laughter rolled through the air as he charged forward, already picturing the moment he crushed the six Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm cultivators, looted their treasures, and pushed his system to new heights.

But before he could get close, a deafening boom split the sky.

A massive beam of nine-colored light roared out, faster than thunder, swallowing Su Xiangcai and his four companions whole.

It was Jiang Chen’s strike—an attack woven from nine laws of the Great Dao, its power shifting at his will, more than enough to erase any Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm cultivator in an instant.

Su Xiangcai, Sang Shenzhen, and the other three were caught completely off guard. Even with their Nirvana Peering-level weapons and defensive artifacts, they had no time to react. Jiang Chen’s sudden strike hit them head-on, and the crushing power of the Great Dao tore them apart before they could even scream.

In a flash, five Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm experts were gone—erased without a trace.

[Ding! Plot alteration detected! You’ve successfully seized part of Protagonist Lu Yi’s opportunities. Lu Yi’s Heavenly Fate Value has dropped by 12,000 points!]

[Ding! You’ve gained 24,000 Villain Value points!]

The system notifications echoed through Jiang Chen’s Sea of Consciousness.

Meanwhile, Lu Yi just stood there, stunned.

What!? He killed his own reinforcements!?

Weren’t they on the same side?

And wasn’t he at his limit? How’s he still this strong!?

He’s been faking it—he fooled all of us! Damn it! My prey’s been stolen again!

Rage boiled inside him like a volcano ready to erupt, but even as shock and fury tore through his mind, his attacks never stopped for a second.

Limitless Nirvana Annihilation Slash!

Lu Yi swung the Golden Coiling Dragon Blade, a blinding arc tearing through the air toward the disguised Jiang Chen—only for the figure to shatter into fragments of light. It was an illusion.

“Hahaha! Lu Yi, didn’t see that coming, did you? I was never a prodigy of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace!”

The disguised Jiang Chen appeared high above, looking down with a smirk. Below, the bodies of Su Xiangcai and his men were already gone—stored neatly inside his Immortal Martial Mustard Seed.

“Who the hell are you!?” Lu Yi roared, fury blazing in his eyes as he hacked at the air, desperate to cut down the one who had ruined his plans.

This was a crushing blow. His shortcut to power—the five Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm cultivators—had all been stolen from him.

But giving up wasn’t an option.

He still had his Early-stage Nirvana Cleansing-level combat strength, and if he could kill this man, he could reclaim everything.

As Lu Yi pressed the attack, Jiang Chen parried easily, a mocking grin on his face. “Who am I? You’ve seen me plenty of times.”

Under Lu Yi’s furious gaze, the imposter’s features and clothing began to twist and shift—until the face of the infamous Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm evil cultivator stared back at him.
