Chapter 464: A Misjudged Opportunity
“Why haven’t we flushed Jiang Chen out yet?” Sun Xiangyuan frowned to himself. Did we misjudge? Can that guy really stay hidden and still move this fast?
Or maybe he never stopped here at all, he thought, unease creeping in. Could he have left by some other method?
Even Liang Youwen began to waver. Did the true dragon carry him through space? But I didn’t sense any spatial ripples… unless Jiang Chen’s concealment can even mask that?
Damn it. What now? Do we just keep searching like fools?
Before he could decide, Sun Anming stiffened, eyes wide. “Everyone—Lu Yi’s tracking imprint just reappeared! He’s already in the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace’s territory… the exact opposite direction from where we’ve been searching!”
Lu Tingguang’s face twisted in anger. “We’ve been tricked!? Jiang Chen and Lu Yi sent us the wrong way!?”
“That’s impossible,” You Shaojun muttered, gaze sharp with calculation. “Jiang Chen’s imprint still reads true—he really is on this side.”
He paused, then said, “Unless… Jiang Chen taught Lu Yi how to hide as well, and they split up to throw us off.”
“That does sound likely.” Sun Xiangyuan nodded at You Shaojun’s reasoning. “Jiang Chen should still be close. We’ll keep searching a bit longer.”
“What about Lu Yi?” Lu Tingze asked, glancing over. “He’s already entered the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace’s territory.”
Sun Xiangyuan let out a slow breath, his expression hard. “What else can we do? We’ll reach out to our people inside the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace and have them try to catch him.”
He rubbed his brow. “If that fails, so be it. With how things are now, the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace will probably use any excuse to strike at us anyway. Catching Lu Yi would just give them one more reason.”
“Alright.” You Shaojun nodded. “I’ll have our contacts make a move. Without Jiang Chen watching his back, we still have a shot at taking Lu Yi.”
“Good.” Sun Xiangyuan gave a brief nod. “But don’t send everyone. If a real fight breaks out later, we’ll need them for that.”
He looked around at the others, eyes firm. “Keep searching. We don’t stop until Jiang Chen shows himself again.”
And so, the cultivators of the Purple Crest Immortal Sect pressed on, sweeping through the skies in pursuit of their elusive prey.
The Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace had also picked up on Lu Yi’s trail. Their read of the situation matched the Purple Crest Immortal Sect’s: Jiang Chen and Lu Yi had split up and run.
Liang Youwen scanned the six Nirvana Cleansing realm powerhouses around him and smiled. “Gentlemen — Lu Yi’s inside our territory now. Luck’s on our side.”
The elder in the blue crown laughed. “He’s in the Blue Whirlpool Sect’s area. A fish on the chopping board.”
Another Supreme Elder cracked his knuckles. “He’s right where we want him.”
“Our first job is still Jiang Chen,” a different elder said, jaw set. “We wipe him out and avenge our Nirvana Peering realm prodigies.”
“Once we catch Jiang Chen, I’ll carve him a hundred thousand times,” someone growled, eyes burning.
The others sneered, full of vicious satisfaction.
Liang Youwen nodded and the search for Jiang Chen continued. The two groups—Purple Crest Immortal Sect and Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace—spread out in different directions, keeping clear of each other for now.
At the same time Liang Youwen gave an order: mobilize the Blue Whirlpool Sect. Encircle Lu Yi at once.
…
At the Blue Whirlpool Sect, the four Nirvana Peering realm Supreme Elders who had been in seclusion for years rushed out, gathering together with excitement.
“It’s an order from above!” one of them said. “Lu Yi has entered our territory!”
“This is a huge chance dropped right in front of us. If we catch him, the rewards will be massive. Breaking through to the next realm might not be just a dream anymore.”
“Don’t waste time—let’s move!”
With visions of glory in their minds, they prepared to leave the sect and hunt Lu Yi down.
Meanwhile, guided by Heavenly Fate, Lu Yi was flying straight toward the Blue Whirlpool Sect.
Before long, the sect’s headquarters appeared within his divine sense.
“Hm?” he muttered. “There’s a sect here? Looks pretty big too… and it even has Nirvana Peering realm cultivators.”
A sect sitting on the border of two major powers… no doubt it’s a pawn placed there, and it must have close ties to the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace. Lu Yi’s eyes narrowed as he studied the Blue Whirlpool Sect’s headquarters, quickly piecing things together.
Right then, four Nirvana Peering realm experts shot out of the sect.
“There he is!” one of the elders shouted. “That hybrid brat, Lu Yi!”
“Hah! We thought it’d take ages to track him down, but he came right into our range.”
“Don’t let him slip—grab him!”
The four Supreme Elders surged forward like wolves that had just scented blood, excitement written all over their faces.
Lu Yi raised an eyebrow, almost amused. “Oh? Four Nirvana Peering realm cultivators, and they’ve already locked onto me.”
His lips curled into a sneer. “They look so thrilled, like they’ve already won. But just four of them, and not a single Peak-stage among them? I really wonder where that confidence comes from.”
His cold grin shifted into something else—eager anticipation.
Four Nirvana Peering realm cultivators—and they were the ones running a sect!
After hiding away for so many years, how many treasures had they piled up? Spirit jades, rare herbs, secret arts… mountains of wealth just waiting for him to claim.
If I take everything they own, won’t my strength soar in one leap?
Excitement burned in Lu Yi’s chest as he sped straight at the Blue Whirlpool Sect elders. The gap between them shrank fast, the clash only moments away—
Then, out of nowhere, a harsh, venom-filled roar ripped through the air.
“Bastards! You dared kill my people? Everyone here dies today!”
A man in black robes appeared like a shadow tearing open the world. His face was blurred by some strange haze, and the aura rolling off him was cold and suffocating.
It was Jiang Chen, hidden beneath the Illusion Dao.
“Shit!” Lu Yi swore. “Where did this guy crawl out from?”
He focused on the aura. This feels almost the same as that evil cultivator I killed before. So this must be their leader.
His lips curled into a grin. I didn’t expect their leader to be this strong. Half-step Nirvana Cleansing realm, huh? Perfect. Another fine piece of prey.
With a low chuckle, Lu Yi threw himself at the battlefield, power surging.
He had no idea just how badly his expectations were about to crumble.
