Chapter 459: Awkward Bargaining

At the same time, Jiang Chen watched Lu Yi getting surrounded, amusement flickering in his eyes. Heavenly Fate really doesn’t quit. The guy just keeps tripping into one lucky break after another.

Good thing I already dealt with Chao Xin and had the chance to intercept him. If I’d waited any longer, he might’ve shot straight into the heavens by now, he thought, shaking his head with a faint smile.

A sudden idea struck—how to wreck this new opportunity without drawing suspicion.

Time for another performance. The Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace’s shining prodigy makes his grand entrance. The corner of his lips curved upward as his form shifted. In an instant, his face, clothes, and even his aura completely changed.

He sped ahead without hesitation. In the blink of an eye, the evil cultivators were already within his attack range.

Inside the formation, Lu Yi unleashed his strength without holding back. He drove his fist forward with all the force of his cultivation.

Boom!

Gasps rang out. “What—! A Peak-stage Nirvana Peering realm cultivator!”

“Damn it! If he were just Late-stage Nirvana Peering realm, we might stand a chance. But Peak-stage? We’re finished!” The scar-faced leader’s face drained of color. He waved his arms frantically. “Scatter! Forget the formation, run!”

The group broke apart instantly, fleeing in all directions. They’d always been a ragtag crew, and when real danger showed up, scattering like startled beasts was the only thing they knew.

But before they could get far, a sharp voice cut through the sky. “Evil scum, daring to run wild before me? Die!”

A sword light fell like a heavenly blade, tearing through the air.

Rip!

In an instant, the three Nirvana Peering realm leaders were sliced cleanly into six pieces. Their eyes stayed wide even in death, frozen in terror.

Inside Jiang Chen’s mind, system chimes rang out.

[Ding! Plot alteration detected! You’ve stopped Protagonist Lu Yi from putting on a show and stealing an opportunity. Lu Yi’s Heavenly Fate Value has dropped by 3000 points.]

[Ding! You’ve gained 6000 Villain Value points.]

Below, Lu Yi smashed apart the formation with a single punch, then looked up at the figure in the sky. His eyes almost bulged with rage and disbelief. “The Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace!?”

It was someone he recognized—the so-called genius of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace.

Even as anger and panic churned inside Lu Yi, he reached out to seize the storage artifacts of the three killed Nirvana Peering realm cultivators.

But just then, two veiled women appeared. One cut off his retrieval spell, while the other snatched up the corpses and, with swift efficiency, slaughtered the remaining Transcendence realm cultivators before collecting their bodies too.

They were none other than Nangong Wan and Shangguan Ning, wearing new disguises.

“Damn it!” Lu Yi’s glare burned, unease clawing at his chest.

With no fusion chances left and only Peak-stage Nirvana Peering-level strength, he stood no chance against all three.

Running wasn’t an option either. Without a flying immortal tool, escape was impossible—while that Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace prodigy almost certainly had one at hand.

“Lu Yi, what tricks do you have left?” The disguised Jiang Chen stared him down, expression flat. “Give it up. A clean death is the best you can hope for.”

“Give up? Never! Even if I die here today, I won’t bow my head.” Lu Yi’s glare burned with fury, but behind it was unshakable resolve.

Backed into a corner, he had no choice but to fight.

“Heh… still struggling pointlessly. A human-demon hybrid, a twisted abomination—anyone would be right to cut you down. Today’s your last day!” Shangguan Ning, disguised as a disciple of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace, stepped forward with disgust written on her face.

But before she could strike, Jiang Chen—still posing as the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace prodigy—suddenly stiffened. His eyes widened as if in shock. “What!? That’s… Jiang Chen! He’s alive—and he’s broken into Nirvana Cleansing realm!”

His body trembled as he looked into the distance. With a flick of his hand, a teleportation talisman flared into the air. “We’re leaving!”

The teleportation talisman—taken from Qiu Feng and refined by Liang Youwen—was of decent quality.

In the blink of an eye, under Lu Yi’s stunned gaze, the three impostors from the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace vanished into rippling space.

“What!? They ran? Jiang Chen showed up—and scared off three disciples of the Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace?” Snapping back to himself, Lu Yi spread his divine sense in every direction, but there wasn’t a single trace of Jiang Chen.

Then the air beside him shuddered with heavy spatial ripples.

Ying Luo and Jiang Chen stepped out of the disturbance.

Jiang Chen’s face looked pale, as if he’d been injured.

Of course, it was nothing but another illusion, carefully put on.

“Hah! Jiang Chen, it really is you!” Lu Yi rushed over, excitement written all over his face. “You’re alive? That black skeleton didn’t kill you!?”

He let out a laugh, eyes wide. “That thing wasn’t just any Nirvana Cleansing realm monster. Incredible—you’re too incredible!”

Jiang Chen stayed calm. “That skeleton was mostly bluff. Its strength was only at Early-stage Nirvana Cleansing realm. Once I broke through, I cut it down.”

“Still,” Lu Yi said, his expression softening into genuine respect, “killing it is no small feat.”

He scratched his head, looking awkward. “Uh… did you get anything good from it? Maybe some spirit jades you could spare?”

“Benefits?” Jiang Chen gave a short laugh. “The only real gain was breaking through under pressure.

“As for the rest, I walked away empty-handed—and worse, I lost two weapons. Your blade shattered completely, and my sword is hanging by a thread.”

“With the Nirvana Cleansing realm top experts from Purple Crest Immortal Sect and Compassionate Sword Immortal Palace chasing us, and me without a proper weapon, things look bad. All we can do is keep running.” Jiang Chen frowned as he pulled out the Silver Immortal Sword for Lu Yi to see.

The blade was covered in cracks, one step away from shattering completely.

“Yikes, that’s rough.” Lu Yi’s smile faltered before he forced out a chuckle. “Still, thanks for holding off that black skeleton. Lucky for you, I’m pretty handy with artifact refining. Why don’t I fix that sword for you?”

“You? Repair an immortal tool?” Jiang Chen gave him a doubtful look.

“Of course! If I fail, you can take my life,” Lu Yi said with a confident grin. “But… you’ll need to hand over some natural treasures and spirit jades to help with the process.”

“I’ve got nothing left.” Jiang Chen shook his head firmly. “Breaking through cost me everything. All I have left is this sword.”

“What about the Space Essence Gold? Don’t tell me you used that up too,” Lu Yi asked, eyeing Jiang Chen with suspicion.

Before Jiang Chen could answer, Ying Luo snapped, “Of course we used it! Didn’t you see how happily I ate it? And now you’re eyeing my things? Try it and I’ll ditch you right here!”

“Uh… forget I asked.” Lu Yi forced a stiff smile.

Jiang Chen cleared his throat. “I still have a little left, but it’s already promised to Ying Luo. I’m not going back on that.”

“As for fixing the sword—we’ll talk about it later.” He shot Lu Yi a pointed look and tucked the Silver Immortal Sword away.

“Hmph! Big brother’s the best, I like him so much.” Ying Luo puffed her cheeks, then in a flash wrapped herself around Jiang Chen’s hand, her tiny body curling into his palm.

“Alright then. I still have a few natural treasures left. If you really need a weapon, I can lend you some to get your sword fixed up first.” Lu Yi forced a smile, trying to sound generous.

“Oh?” Jiang Chen’s eyes narrowed, as if something had just clicked. “Didn’t you say you were out of spirit jades? So… repairing an immortal tool doesn’t actually need them, does it?”

He had no intention of handing over spirit jades—those were too valuable, tied directly to the growth of Lu Yi’s system.

Other treasures he could let slide, but spirit jades were non-negotiable.

Catching the slip in Lu Yi’s words, Jiang Chen wasn’t about to let it pass.
