Chapter 997: Getting More Talents
At this point, the outpost was littered with corpses, broken weapons, and shattered parts of the Golems…
However, Shane was more focused on the notification that followed… It seemed that the System made an update and didn’t announce it to the public.
[ You have eliminated a Survivor with more than 8,000 Reputation Points. ]
“What do we have here? Isn’t this new?”
He had killed many human Survivors before, and the system always gave him the usual messages… The loot would include experience points, various items, talents, skills, and sometimes Reputation Points, but never a specific mention of their Reputation Points after eliminating them.. This was new.
“Why now?” Shane muttered as he proceeded to read the notification..
Soon, several more messages appeared in succession.
[ You can now obtain half of the Survivor’s Reputation Points after looting them. This is a guaranteed loot, but the Survivor must have at least more than 8,000 Points to qualify for the Reputation Loot. ]
[ Note: Survivors with Reputation Points below 8,000 will not provide any points to the looter. ]
[ You have unlocked Infamy! ]
[ New Mechanic Unlocked: Infamy ]
[ Infamy is generated when a Survivor eliminates another Survivor with low or high Reputation Points. ]
[ Infamy represents notoriety and fear. Survivors with Infamy will be marked. ]
[ Effects of Infamy:
– Survivors with Infamy will appear on regional bounty boards.
– Infamy increases the chance of hostile encounters with other Survivors, Neutral Shelters, and Wild Shelters.
– Infamy reduces trade opportunities with neutral factions, as merchants fear retaliation.
– Infamy increases loot quality from defeated Survivors and elites by +15%.
– Infamy grants passive intimidation: weaker Survivors within 20m suffer -5% attack speed and -5% defense.
– Infamy can be reduced only by defeating other Infamous Survivors or by surviving for 50 days without killing high-Reputation targets. ]
[ Infamy Points: 25 ]
Shane’s eyes narrowed as he read the last line.
‘What the heck is this new concept?’ Shane frowned as he didn’t expect that they would bring Infamy here.
He thought that this was only an A.I. Rebellion thing. However, it seemed that it just needed an update.
“So now the System wants to paint me as a villain… Infamy, huh?” He smirked faintly. “If that’s the price for killing these Overlord guys, then so be it.”
The notifications faded, but Shane slowly recalled all the information about this Infamy…
Shane knew this meant his name would spread faster than ever. And Shane welcomed it.
In any case, he had very high Reputation Points right now… His current infamy was basically nothing…
He could still remember that a High Reputation and a Low Infamy means that he could be considered a Hero, Saint, or even a Lawful Champion in A.I. Rebellion.
Having both stats in High Points, on the other hand, would just make him some sort of Legendary Figure or a Feared War Hero.
Then, a Low Reputation with a High Infamy just means that he was basically a Villain… Maybe a Bandit King or a Tyrant would work as well.
Shane couldn’t help but smile as he recalled his days in the A.I. Rebellion when he had a very high Infamy at one point.
Nonetheless, if he had both Low Reputation and Infamy, then that would only mean that he was nobody…
‘I guess the system will introduce those bounty hunters soon…’ Shane mused as he realized that this Zombie Apocalypse was advancing a bit too fast.
Those Bounty Hunters should only appear about five years in the Apocalypse…
Shane sighed as he decided to loot Hendryx… However, he considered for a moment whether he wanted to use his fivefold loot.
‘Nah… Getting five times Talents and Skills is not a good idea. I probably can’t use them anyway.’ Shane mused.
[ Do you want to retrieve the loot? ]
“Yes.”
The system responded instantly.
[ You have earned 3,000 Experience Points. ]
[ You have earned 4,219 Reputation Points. ]
[ Loots obtained: Item Upgrade Crystal x10, Unknown Meat ( Safe ) x1, Concealment Ring x1, Stormguard Chestplate x1, Lightning Rod x1, Ring of Current x1, Lightning‑Charged Boots x1, Fast Regeneration Skill, Thunder Palm Skill, Lightning Surge Skill, Stormbreaker Skill, Spirit Shock Skill, Static Barrier Skill, Athletic Body Talent (Exceptional), Zapper Talent (Epic), Spirit Eye Talent (Epic), Iron Will Talent (Master), Talent Expansion Scroll x5, Skill Fusion Scroll x2 ]
[ You have reached the limit of Survivor Talents. Athletic Leg Talent, Zapper Talent, Spirit Eye Talent, and Iron Will Talent were not added. ]
[ Do you want to remove one of your current Survivor Talents to accommodate another Talent? ]
“Well… Let’s see…” Shane muttered as he looked if he actually had a talent he needed to remove.
[ Survivor Talent: Complete Loot ( Legendary ), Otherworldly Mechanic ( Legendary ), Territory Lord ( Legendary ), Aura Master ( Exceptional ), Telekinesis ( Rare ), Skill Infuser ( Epic ), False Revival ( Epic ), Spirit Threading ( Epic ), Adaptive Skin ( Epic ), Stonegrip ( Epic ), Ironblood Survivor ( Epic ), Phantom Instinct ( Epic ), Swordmaster’s Domain ( Epic ), Stormbreaker ( Epic ). ]
To be honest, the Spirit Threading wasn’t that useful… It would only allow him to control his Spirit Points to reinforce his items. It was an incredible enhancement or even defensive ability, but with his Aura Master Talent, it was basically overlapping…
He then checked the Ironblood and Phantom Instinct…
[ Ironblood Survivor (Epic): When health drops below 50%, the Survivor gains +80% Defense against physical and magic attacks and gains minor regeneration for 20 seconds. ]
[ Phantom Instinct (Epic): Grants heightened perception of sound and movement…
He read through them carefully and realized that these two were good, especially the Ironblood Survivor.
He then checked the Stonegrip Talent…
‘Is this even good?’ Shane mused as he checked it quickly.
[ Stonegrip ( Epic Talent ): The Survivor’s grip hardens like stone when holding weapons or tools. Grants +45% stability when aiming with ranged weapons and reduces recoil slightly. In melee combat, increases weapon durability by 50%.
Passive Bonus: Tools and weapons held are less likely to slip or break under stress. ]
“Well… I guess this is it.”
After some consideration, Shane decided to replace the Spirit Threading and Stonegrip Talent with Hendryx’s Spirit Eye and Zapper Talent.
[ You have replaced Spirit Threading Talent with Spirit Eye Talent. ]
[ You have replaced Stonegrip Talent with Zapper Talent. ]
