Capítulo 988: The Last Resort
The leader’s scroll unfolded in his hands and started glowing with crimson light. Shane had no idea what it was, but he felt a strong energy coming from it…
Because of that, he triggered his defensive tokens, ensuring that he wouldn’t get caught off guard.
Soon, however, he realized what kind of scroll had been opened just now.
“A Summoning Scroll…?”
The parchment burned away, and the ground trembled…
A huge figure just came out of nowhere, and it was followed by a foul stench that spread across the shoreline.
Boom!
From the smoke and ash, a Zombie Lord appeared!
‘I thought I had already gotten used to this stench… This one’s the worst…’
Thankfully, it was also recognized by the system and gave him the normal notification when encountering a Zombie Lord…
[ Zombie Lord Ogre has entered the battlefield. ]
[ Name: Ogre the Two-Headed Abomination
Type: Aberrant Undead
Threat Level: Catastrophic
Description: Ogre the Two-Headed Abomination is a Zombie Lord born from failed fusion experiments. Each head acts independently, granting unpredictable attack patterns. Acidic bile spews from its mouths, while its claws tear through high-tier Armor easily. Ogre’s regenerative tissue adapts rapidly, making prolonged combat extremely dangerous.
Immediate extermination is advised. Survivors should avoid direct grappling range and prepare for multi-directional assaults. ]
“Whoa~” Shane couldn’t help but feel surprised.
This was the first two-headed Zombie Lord he’d ever fight…
There were two heads fused at the neck, four arms protruding from a single bloated torso, and two legs that stomped into the sand with unnatural weight. Its skin was also filled with rotting flesh and hardened bone…
In the meantime, the Overlord Clan survivors didn’t stay to fight. They dragged the corpses of their fallen comrades and activated a cloaking skill. Their figures shimmered, then vanished into the night.
It happened so quickly…
“Seriously? This is your escape plan?” Shane muttered as his grip tightened on the Moonveil Manablade. He had wanted to capture them, but now he was left alone against the Zombie Lord.
The creature roared, both heads screaming in conflicting tones.
Then, its four arms reached out, ready to crush Shane.
Whoosh!
The abomination moved with its massive hand, about to grab him.
Shane wasn’t exactly sure if he could overpower a Zombie Lord, so he decided to dodge…
His Calamity Mask sharpened his perception, and his Death’s Glimpse tattoo skill triggered once again, giving him two seconds of precognition.
He saw the grab before it happened.
He leapt backward, his Calamity Greaves boosting his jump height once again, narrowly avoiding the crushing blow.
Boom!
The sand cratered where he had stood.
“Not bad… but you’re not the first Lord I’ve faced alone…”
With his Swordmaster’s Domain, the Zombie Lord entered into his sphere of dominance. Its movements slowed, and its evasion stats were reduced…
But this was no ordinary foe. The Zombie Lord’s sheer vitality resisted the aura, its four arms just started swinging in unison. One claw slashed horizontally, another vertically, while the other two reached to grab.
Shane used his Flight Skill again, and with his agility far beyond theirs, he was able to dodge effortlessly. Soon, he slashed downward, the Mana Edge of his blade cutting into one arm!
However, Shane noticed that he had forced it too much that his blade was actually chipped!
He noticed it even though the chip on his sword was so tiny.
‘As expected of a Zombie Lord. It’s tough…’
Nonetheless, it was a good thing that his sword was still that sharp, and he had already weakened it with this strike.
However, the Zombie Lord doesn’t feel any pain at all. The creature roared again, both heads spewing acid at the same time!
Spat! Spat!
Shane then relied on his Calamity Plate Armor with its passive Burning Reprisal effect capable of reflecting fire damage back into the monster.
Bam!
Just like that, flames flew across its torso, burning its wounds deeper.
Still, the Zombie Lord pressed forward.
Shane smirked. “Fine. Let’s see how you handle this.”
Since Shane felt the Moonveil Manablade beginning to chip, he knew that he had to change tactics…
‘I can’t afford to lose this weapon… not here.’
With a pulse of spirit energy, he sheathed the blade and drew another weapon from his inventory.
[ Shadowflame Longsword (Legendary) ]
It was originally and originally Exceptional grade, purchased from the System’s Weapon Store for 2,500 Zombie Cores. However, it was now upgraded to Legendary with Item Upgrade Crystals.
What Shane really liked about this longsword was its effects.
[ Effects:
+35% Attack Power against Undead creatures
+20% Fire Damage bonus, stacking with burn effects
+15% Shadow Damage bonus, bypassing 25% of enemy defenses
Attacks inflict Shadowflame Burn: continuous damage over 5 seconds, stacking up to 3 times
Passive: Undead Bane – reduces regeneration of undead enemies by 30% within 10 meters
Passive: Soul Rend – critical strikes guarantee the removal of 5% of the undead’s vitality. ]
The only problem with this weapon was that it was a bit too long for Shane’s taste.
The weapon radiated a sinister aura… Furthermore, the blade was wreathed in black fire that almost seemed invisible.
Indeed, the blackfire seemed just like a haze…
Nonetheless, the Zombie Lord seemed to be smart enough that the weapon he just pulled out was truly a weapon that could work against him…
Shane wasn’t sure, but it was as if the Zombie Lord recoiled instinctively…
Shane’s lips curled into a cold smile. “This one’s made for you.”
He then charged forward…
With his Phantasm Rush, Calamity Greaves, and Calamity Boost, Shane was simply too fast!
The Shadowflame Longsword easily sliced one of the creature’s arms.
The blade even seared flesh as dark energy bypassed its hardened bone. The wound had then ignited with black fire spreading across the limb!
The abomination roared, both heads spewing acid in retaliation.
However, Shane’s Calamity Mantle distorted his outline as acid splashed harmlessly into the sand. This mantle truly works wonders as he felt untouchable…
He struck again, this time across its torso. The Shadowflame Burn stacked and three layers of black fire started consuming the monster’s flesh!
Unfortunately, the Zombie was still a Lord Tier and wouldn’t die so easily!
It stared at Shane’s figure and spoke…
