Chapter 986: Against the Intruders

Twelve figures emerged from the shadows after Shane called them out…

Their weapons then gleamed under the moonlight. Rifles, blades, and even heavy ordnance were carried with practiced ease. They spread out in formation, surrounding the shoreline where Shane had just slain the Sea King Zombie.

Shane couldn’t help but feel a bit pressured, even with all his skills and items with him…

Of course, he wasn’t afraid of his ability to literally revive from death… Nonetheless, he didn’t know the talents of these 12 Survivors, so he wanted to know more about them or perhaps, he should act fast to ensure that he wouldn’t be pulled into their pace…

After some thought, Shane didn’t rush forward. Instead, he swiftly backed up a few steps and pulled out his monocle, the Scouter Lens.

With a flick of his wrist, he fitted it over his eye and activated.

He could only scan one target at a time.

Naturally, he chose the figure in the middle. He was the one hefting a massive minigun that looked far too heavy for an ordinary survivor.

The lens activated.

[ Talent Profile: Christian ]

[ Gunlord Physique (Epic): Enhanced musculature and reflexes tailored for firearms. Greatly reduces recoil and weapon fatigue.

Ballistics Instinct (Rare): Automatically calculates trajectory, wind, and distance, improving ranged accuracy by 25%.

Rapid Loader (Epic): Reloads heavy weapons at twice the normal speed.

Iron Grip (Rare): Grants stability when wielding oversized or mounted firearms, preventing disarm attempts.

Suppressive Will (Epic): Sustained fire from automatic weapons reduces enemy morale and accuracy within a 15-meter radius. ]

Shane’s eyes widened slightly. “Five talents… all perfectly tuned for guns. This guy is practically a walking arsenal.”

As expected of a Survivor who had lived up until now… They were truly incredible.

[ Skill Profile: Christian ]

[ Bullet Storm: Unleashes a continuous hail of bullets from heavy weapons, shredding armor and suppressing movement.

Overheat Control: Temporarily vents weapon heat, allowing uninterrupted fire for 10 seconds.

Ricochet Burst: Fires a specialized round that bounces between multiple targets, dealing reduced damage per hit.

Armor Piercer: Loads high‑velocity rounds that ignore 40% of enemy defenses.

Suppressive Barrage: Creates a zone of suppression; enemies inside suffer reduced accuracy and movement speed.

Gunbreaker Stance: Anchors himself to the ground, increasing stability and damage output but reducing mobility. ]

Shane lowered the lens as the lens’ effect would be in cooldown for 5 minutes…

“So that’s their heavy hitter. A gunlord… Impressive, but predictable. He’s built for firepower, not versatility.”

The other eleven figures then turned, waiting for their leader’s signal.

In the meantime, Christian revved his weapon as if he were ready to fight.

Shane didn’t back out as all his defensive items, tokens, and skills were all ready.

Then, he tightened his grip on the Moonveil Manablade.

“Good. Let’s see how well your skills hold up against mine.” He muttered.

However, as the minigun’s barrels spun, another figure stepped forward. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and he seemed to be their real leader. He had been hiding behind all this time.

Then, he spoke with his deep voice…

“Drop your set items. Leave the corpse of the King Zombie behind. That’s not yours.”

Shane couldn’t help but frown after hearing that… “What?”

The leader’s tone seemed as if he were some kind of Lord that wouldn’t accept any rejection.

“That monster was wounded by us. We drove it to the shore. You only finished what we started. The corpse, the drops, they belong to the Overlord Clan. And your gear… is that similar to a Conqueror Set? I like it… Hand it over, and you will walk away alive.”

Shane’s grip tightened on the Moonveil Manablade.

Actually, as he heard that they were the ones who injured the Zombie, he felt a little inclined to share it, but hearing that they were from the Overlord Clan… it changed his mind.

‘So that explains the wounds… But even injured, the Sea King Zombie was still a King-tier. I killed it. I earned the drops. No wonder these guys have a terrible reputation.”

He was willing to share, perhaps, if they truly had fought it first and they weren’t part of the Overlord Clan. But to demand everything, the corpse, the loot, and even his Calamity Set? That was arrogance beyond reason.

Furthermore, they could also be lying, considering that the Overlord Clan was just terrible people in his opinion.

His lips curled into a cold smile. “You want me to strip down and crawl away? Not happening.”

The leader’s eyes also turned serious as he looked at the man before him…

He felt that facing their group should be more than enough to scare the man and beg for their forgiveness.

“Then you have a death wish, and we will gladly grant it to you…”

The tension snapped. Shane didn’t wait to be caught off guard. His instincts screamed for immediate action… so he did…

Spirit Energy surged through his body as he activated his Flight Skill from his Title called “Sky’s Strongest”. Furthermore, with his Calamity Boots boosting his ascent, it actually became a great assist!

In an instant, he shot into the sky!

Whoosh~

“Too slow,” Shane muttered.

From his belt, he pulled a small vial… It was the Smoke Bomb he had looted from a Smoker Zombie. Before the others could fire their guns, shoot arrows, or throw their knives, he swiftly hurled it down as if he was actually planning to escape…

Boom!

Thick, choking smoke erupted across the shoreline, swallowing the twelve figures in a haze of ash and poison.

Their formation broke, and Shane could see their figures stumbling as visibility dropped to nothing.

Shane hovered above the chaos and smiled while observing everything clearly with the help of his Calamity Mask. He then reached into his holster and pulled out his revolver…

The weapon felt heavy, reliable, and it was a perfect counter to Christian’s minigun.

“Let’s see how the Overlord Clan handles a storm from above…” Shane whispered.

Click~

He cocked the revolver and aimed at the leader…

Bang!
