Capítulo 981: Building a Crew

The orchard within Blue Haven Shelter had grown into one of its most peaceful sanctuaries…

There were rows of fruit trees along the paths, with their branches starting to get fuller with young leaves, and they were even giving signs of a bountiful harvest.

Needless to say, the air in this part of the shelter was fresher compared to the outside. There were some traces of earthy scent mixed with the blossoms, and apparently, many survivors came to rest beneath the shade after long hours of labor.

It was a revitalizing place!

At the very center of the orchard was the World Tree sapling. It was still small, but it was already quite radiant with an aura that was faint yet distinct compared to others.

Shane chuckled, seeing Axis so excited…

He then approached it quietly, carrying a flask filled with mystical water drawn from the Mana Lake in the Fairy Realm.

Axis soon fluttered above him as she didn’t want to get wet…

“This should help you grow faster,” Shane murmured, kneeling beside the sapling.

Well, Axis told him to keep talking to it after all. She mentioned how it would help the World Tree grow faster and recognize its identity.

Just like that, Shane poured the mana-rich water carefully at its roots.

The soil seemed to drink it instantly, and the sapling’s leaves trembled, releasing a faint pulse of energy that spread across the orchard.

Axis landed gently on one of its tiny branches, smiling as the tree’s aura brightened.

Shane stood, brushing the dirt from his hands, and noticed several workers tending to the orchard.

They were pruning branches, watering the rows, and checking the soil.

“Good work,” Shane greeted them as he didn’t want to simply ignore these guys and leave.

“This orchard will help us feed our population but also maintain our morale high… Keep treating it like treasure.”

The workers straightened, smiling at the recognition. One of them, a young woman named Alicia, replied, “We’ll take care of it, Clan Leader. The orchard feels… alive now.”

Shane nodded, satisfied, but he did not head to the dockyard yet.

Instead, he turned toward the fish farm, another vital project within Blue Haven. After all, only the Springriver Manor was previously capable of handling the Fish Farm.

Now, the Blue Haven Shelter was added.

The farm was a series of large, protected ponds connected by flowing channels.

It was not difficult to make with the right plan, but it wasn’t easy as well…

As soon as he arrived, he saw workers standing along the edges of the pond, feeding the fish and checking the water quality.

Shane walked among them, observing the precious forms beneath the surface.

He saw the Silver Fish. They were lustrous, fast, and healthy…

They were darting in schools that reflected the light like blades. They were prized for their clean taste and quick breeding cycle.

“Silver Fish are thriving…” Shane remarked. “They’ll keep our tables full. Good job everyone…”

Further along, he spotted the Troll Catfish. They were a bit more massive creatures with broad heads and whiskers that twitched as they stirred the mud.

They were slower, but their meat was rich and filling, perfect for stews.

“Careful with those,” Shane warned a worker who was hauling feed. “Troll Catfish bite harder than they look. Don’t let anyone get careless.”

The worker chuckled nervously. “Yes, Clan Leader. We’ve already lost a bucket to one of them.”

‘A bucket?’ Shane wryly smiled after hearing that.

Finally, he reached the pond where the Emberfin Trout swam.

Their fins glowed faintly with a reddish hue, glistening like embers in the water.

It was such a beautiful sight…

They were rare, requiring mana-infused feed, but their meat carried restorative properties.

“These are the jewels of the farm,” Shane said as he crouched to watch them. “Treat them well. Emberfin Trout will be worth more than gold when the expeditions begin.”

The workers nodded eagerly, proud of their progress. Shane stood, and his gaze swept across the farm…

After not finding any issue with their operation, he could just let them be. Perhaps, he could just visit them from time to time during harvest time.

Shane finally felt satisfied after checking the orchard and fish farm.

With those projects thriving, he turned his attention to the docks where the Coastal Runner Ship awaited him.

The vessel was anchored at the very front of the dockyard with its coated hull faintly glowing under the morning sun.

The mana-treated coat actually gave the ship a subtle sheen. It was proof of Vasco’s meticulous work and the elves.

Shane walked the length of the deck and paused to examine the cannons. Eight of them now lined the sides and their swivel mounts overlapping lines of fire.

He tested one, pulling the mechanism back… It was smooth, efficient, and ready to be used…

Then, Shane noticed a rat looking around…

“Right… Fiona… I forgot to mention. I just returned. Ahem… I’m inspecting the ship for now. I’ll visit you in your office later.” Shane said to the rat, knowing that Fiona was watching him.

After that, Shane just continued.

Descending into the engine room, he listened to the hum of the engine.

The Elves had done well. The energy flow was perfected… It was balanced, steady, and powerful.

“Perfect,” Shane muttered, nodding to himself. Vasco had really done well in making this ship a lot better.

Still, he felt that he wasn’t using Vasco’s true skills really well. After all, he doesn’t have the budget to spend tons of resources on building a new ship from scratch.

‘You have the skills for sure… But just wait for now.’ Shane thought as he returned to the deck.

Soon, he inspected the rapid deployment ramp, and as expected, Vasco’s obsession had paid off… The hinges were strong, and the mechanism also seemed flawless. He lowered it once, then raised it again, satisfied with its speed.

“This ship is ready,” Shane said as he now planned to build a crew!
