Chapter 924: New Site

The toxic mist or whatever it was had finally been sealed together with the mining site itself…

Indeed, the Spirit Vein was buried as the site was officially abandoned. It was huge loss but they had nothing that could neutralize the toxicity… There was no way anyone could mine inside that place with that toxic trap.

Shane exhaled and turned around.

The miners were coughing, exhausted, and covered in dust. Some were still dragging carts of salvaged gear and unconscious people, while the others were helping the wounded. A few stared back at the collapsed entrance as they were quite helpless…

Most of them had been mining this site ever since they had arrived here. They even developed a set of skills that allowed them to become a better miner.

Seeing that the mining site had collapsed, they couldn’t help but feel emotional. After all, many of Diana’s gifts were still left inside. Now, they were all gone, never to be seen again.

“It’s fine… The enemies came prepared. I didn’t know they would consider making the site useless.” Shane said as he indeed failed to consider that.

Still, he couldn’t help but feel that Lancelot was too reckless. He actually sent his three most powerful Survivors with only a little army backing them up.

He believed that this mission wasn’t worth the risk just to monopolize the Spirit Stone trades and production.

Nonetheless, Shane asked Cloud about the situation outside.

As expected, more and more Zombies came after another Zombie Lure was triggered.

Still, they had enough Turrets, Super Soldiers, and other defenders to stop them. Even the Floating Fortress was just lingering above them, waiting for their call for reinforcements.

If Diana could no longer defend, the Skybreaker Mech would surely descend to assist them.

Seeing that the situation was under control, Shane walked over to the two unconscious prisoners, Lesley and Kara, still being carried by two miners. The anklets on their right feet were blinking steadily as their suppression was active.

“Keep monitoring those anklets,” Shane ordered. “If they wake up, don’t engage. Just report it to me… I’ll send a group to guard them later.”

The miners nodded.

Well, Shane considered whether to eliminate them to loot their skills and talents or keep them alive, make them loyal to him…

In the end, he decided to keep them alive as he was also curious about Lancelot’s train of thought.

It was simply too weird of him to send these people to conquer his Shelter. There must be another reason he wasn’t aware of.

In any case, with his Territory Lord Talent, as long as they stay inside his territory, they would have 2 Loyalty Points increase on him… In just a month, that would be 60 loyalty points, enough for them to stop being hostile.

Then, Cloud made another report.

[ Toxic spread contained. Surface readings are stable. Recommend full quarantine of the site for 72 hours. ]

Shane looked at the collapsed entrance one last time and nodded.

“Mark it as a dead zone,” he said. “We’ll deal with it later.”

Then he turned and headed to the walls to assist with the situation…

The Spirit Stone Mine was lost, and they had basically lost because of this… Nonetheless, he didn’t plan to let these people from the Overlord Clan escape so easily.

He allowed Kara and Lesley to live because of their talent and the information they could provide, but for the others, he couldn’t let them stay alive, even for Orlando with Golem-related Talent!

At this point, Vale was already thinking of another location where they could use their Shelter Crystal and establish another territory.

After all, this Silver Mine Camp was only here due to silver and Spirit Stones, If they could not be mined anymore, they had to change location.

Still, there are matters he has to attend to now…

It didn’t take long before Shane reached the outer wall just as another wave of zombies slammed into the perimeter.

The Zombie Lure had done its job… too well. It seemed that the lure they used wasn’t just a simple store-bought item but something that an alchemist made…

‘Well… I guess it won’t be surprising if the Overlord Clan has someone like that.’

Soon, Shane noticed how Max and Diana were coordinating with everyone… Then, the Gladiators, and Super Soldiers were positioned along the barricades, as the Mk.V turrets swept the field with their gunfire…

Shane didn’t waste time.

He activated Aura Sentinel, boosting the morale and healing speed of nearby defenders. Then he used Phantasm Rush to close the distance to the nearest Zombie…

The zombies weren’t just common types anymore…

They were Exploder Zombies, bloated with volatile gas, rushing the wall to detonate on impact.

There were also Crypt Crawler Variants as they moved like spiders with their long limbs… Still, the most annoying were probably the existence of Screamer Zombies. They were thin, pale, with elongated necks that emitted sonic pulses to disorient defenders.

Even if they were physically weak, their sonic attack was too uncomfortable…

Aside from them, there were also Tyrants, Hunters, and Licker Zombies.

Shane then activated Armored Dash, plowing through a group of Crawlers that had advanced too close to the walls…

He followed up with Horizontal Slash, cutting through two Exploders before they could reach the wall.

“Max! Focus fire on the Screamers!” Shane shouted. “They’re disrupting the other defenders!”

Max nodded and relayed the command…

Shane jumped five meters into the air using Five-Meter Jump, landed behind a cluster of Hunter Zombies, and unleashed Vortex Spin, a wide-area slash that shredded the group before they could come up with an attack…

The battlefield was chaotic, but Shane’s Heightened Awareness kept him fully aware of the situation…. He dodged a toxic splash, relied on his Poison Resistance, and countered with Double Thrust to pierce an Acid Spitter’s core.

Within minutes, the outer zone was cleared.

Cloud pinged him again, and this time, it was to report the presence of the perpetrators…

[ Enemy presence detected. The remaining Overlord Clan members are hiding near the collapsed eastern boulder with a Stealth Barrier. ]

Shane nodded as he looked in their direction…

“Time to finish this.”

He then activated Spectral Tracker, locking onto residual energy signatures left behind by Kara and Lesley’s team…
