Chapter 920: The Message

Shane’s eyes shifted from the debris left behind by the Stone Golems as he looked at the marching Zombies.

“Here they are…”

Smoke still lingered near the walls, but the Zombie Lures had already activated. From the distant hills, the first wave of undead began to move… They were slow at first, but as they get to see the source of the lure or their target, they started moving faster…

Furthermore, these weren’t just Low-Tier or Mid-Tier Zombies. Instead, they were actually high-tier!

They were Tyrants to be exact… With a rough estimate from Cloud, they were able to tell that there should be over three hundred of them.

Each one stood nearly four meters tall, their bodies were muscular, and there was a sheen on part of their bodies… If Shane wasn’t mistaken, these Tyrant Zombies must be the Armored Version.

“Just what kind of Lure they used to attract these high-tier Zombies.” Lysandra muttered. “Those are wall breakers.”

“It must be a very pricey Zombie Lure… Maybe about 20 to 30 Reputation Points each.” Diana commented.

“What? They should be buying Talent Expansion Scroll instead. That’s too much of a waste.”

“Well… The Overlord Clan is rich. They’re leading 12 or so other Clans. I heard they’re collecting taxes or something.”

“Whatever… These Armored Tyrants weren’t something new. Just treat this as some kind of one-hour extension of the Red Night Event.” Shane added.

Soon, the Zombies got in range… Needless to say, normal bullets barely slowed them down. Weak elemental skills fizzled against their hide and even the snipers had to aim for joints and eyes to make a dent.

They were just that strong, and all of them were aware of it…

Still, the Mk.V turrets this time were different…

[ Adaptive Targeting System: Engaged ]

In just a few moments, energy Lances tore through the first wave, punching holes in their torsos. Incendiary Cluster Bombs detonated mid-air, scattering micro-bombs across the horde. Ice Darts followed, freezing limbs and slowing regeneration…

It was the power of the Mk.V…

The Tyrants roared as some started falling while others were staggering from the suppressive fire… Nonetheless, they kept coming.

The Mk.Vs held the line for nearly ten minutes.

Then the heat warnings were triggered.

[ Core Temperature: 87% ]

[ Cooling Protocol: Engaged | Firing Suspended ]

The turrets stopped as more than a hundred fifty Armored Tyrants still advanced.

“Now,” Shane said.

He stepped forward, his bio-armor was still damaged, so he replaced it with the full Calamity Set, the one he had obtained from the Winged Lord Zombie…

There were several Calamity Sets, but this Winged Variant was the best.

[ Calamity Mask ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +50% Perception, +55% Resistance to Mind-Control and Fear, Reveals stealth-based enemies within a 50m radius

Skill:

Calamity’s Eye: Slightly increases critical hit chance based on enemy status ailments. ]

[ Calamity Mantle ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +50% Evasion, +20% Movement Speed, Enemies within 15m suffer reduced accuracy ( -15% )

Skill:

Shadow Drift: Gain a short-duration blur effect when standing still. ]

[ Calamity Plate Armor ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +40% Physical Defense, +25% Fire and Acid Resistance, Reduced all incoming damage while airborne by 10%

Skill:

Burning Reprisal: Reflects 10% melee damage as Fire damage. ]

[ Calamity Gauntlets ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +50% Melee Attack Speed, +50% Skill Activation Speed, Attacks have a 15% chance to emit a shockwave that knocks back targets. ]

[ Calamity Belt ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +55% Energy Regeneration, Allows storing one extra Quick Use Item, Reduces skill cooldowns by 10% ]

[ Calamity Greaves ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +50% Jump Height, +50% Sprint Speed, Fall damage is completely negated ]

[ Calamity Boots ( Winged Lord Variant ) Tier 5:

Effects: +50 Agility, +20% Ground Stability, +15% Silent Movement, +5% Critical Evasion Chance

Skill:

Flight Boost: Provides 20% Flight Speed and Control Boost while airborne. ]

Apparently, this Winged Lord Variant or version of the Calamity Set was Shane’s favorite if he wasn’t using his Genesis Bio-Armor…

It was simply too good with the additional stat, skills, and effects that he could use with it.

Lastly, the Three-Piece and Five-Piece Effect weren’t something he could ignore.

[ 3-Piece Bonus Effect:

Effects: Gain +20% Agility, +10% Critical Rate, and +15% Attack Speed.

Grants Aerial Adaptation: Reduce the stamina cost of airborne maneuvers and fall-recovery time.

Successful attacks while mid-air temporarily increase damage dealt by 5% per strike (up to 5 stacks). ]

[ 5-Piece Bonus Effect:

Active Skill:

Winged Descent: Leap high into the air and slam into the ground with explosive force, dealing wide area damage.

Passive Skill:

Ashen Domain: Enemies within 10m suffer reduced healing, –10% armor, and are more vulnerable to burn and fear effects. ]

He then led the charge…

“Squads 3 through 7, flank left,” Shane ordered. “Minerva, suppress the rear. Gladiators, kill anyone can pass through us…”

Just like that, he activated Armored Dash, surging forward with a burst of speed. The nearest Tyrant swung a massive arm, but Shane ducked swiftly, then launched upward with Five-Meter Jump, his greaves boosting his jump height!

While in the air, he triggered Winged Descent.

Boom!

He slammed into the ground with explosive force, and five Tyrants were injured instantly!

This had all happened quickly… Minerva even started shooting with fire rounds to burn the Armored Tyrant…

Without waiting for the Super Soldiers, Shane continued…

He followed up with Vortex Spin, with his gauntlets accelerating his melee speed. Each strike had a chance to emit a shockwave, and two did, knocking back nearby undead!

A Tyrant tried to grab him, but Shane activated Phantasm Rush, blinking behind the creature and delivering a Double Thrust to its spine.

“Too slow…”

Then, the Calamity Mask’s passive triggered… Just like that, Calamity’s Eye took effect, boosting his critical rate due to the enemy’s burn status.

Another Tyrant took notice of him and moved…

However, Shane just countered with Titan’s Roar, stunning the creature and rallying nearby allies.

“Push!” he shouted. “Mk.Vs are cooling down… we just need hold until they reboot!”

It didn’t take that long before the rest of the Super Soldiers joined the charge, using grenades and suppression fire to slow the advance…

At this point, the Petrification Curse from Lesley had already lost its effect.

No matter what, Survivors had certain resistance, and it was all run by Spirit Points. Without any more Spirit Energy coming from Lesley, the Curse lost its effect.

Elsa and Lily recovered and felt ashamed of themselves… As soon as they realized that the Armored Tyrants were causing trouble, they swiftly worked together and unleashed elemental bursts to isolate the Armored Tyrant so they couldn’t work together…

Then, Minerva’s sniper rounds also picked off Tyrants trying to flank and reach the Wall…

“Once we kill these Armore Tyrants, the Overlord Clan Members will definitely appear, so keep an eye on your surroundings.” Shane reminded as he charged forward…

Bam! Bam!

As he was attacked by the enemies, his Calamity Plate Armor reflected melee damage as fire. His Mantle also distorted their aim, making him almost untouchable by the enemies…

Soon, he was airborne again as he used his title’s Flight Skill… He wanted to use the Winged Descent once again…

As soon as he was about 70 meters up, Shane finally felt satisfied and triggered the skill!

Whoosh~

Boom!

Shane dropped from the sky and shattered the formation of Armored Tyrants, who seemed to be planning to dash toward the city wall and create an opening!

Those closest to Shane were either scorched, stunned, or forced to retreat!

Needless to say, the Super Soldiers and the Gladiators capitalized on the disruption…

Elsa and Lily continued to isolate the strong Tyrant and Minerva’s sniper rounds picked off exposed joints.

“Good work, everyone… We’ve already done enough.” Shane reminded his team. After all, he didn’t want them to overspend on their Spirit Points. Lesley’s team was still hiding somewhere…

As the Mk.V turrets rebooted, their targeting systems locked back onto the remaining horde.

Shane and his team swiftly retreated while the Energy Lances resumed fire, and the battlefield shifted again.

“Now… Where are you?” Shane muttered…

Lesley, Kara, Orlando, and the rest of the Overlord Clan members had already vanished from the rear formation.

Of course, Shane could use his skills and his mask to find them… However, he had to get a bit too close to them, and he didn’t want to be surrounded. No matter how strong he was, there might be some hidden Legendary Talent Holder he wasn’t aware of…

Still, as the Armored Tyrants were thinning out, Shane noticed that there was another horde of Zombies coming at them!

Then, Cloud’s scan confirmed it… More undead were approaching from the hills.

It seemed that the Zombie Lure that Lesley’s team had thrown to them was still active!

“They’re definitely still working…” he muttered. “Those damn lures…”

The problem was the fact that they couldn’t do anything about those Lures since once they took effect, the system itself would be triggered. If it were a high-level Lure, the effect could last for 3 or 5 hours!

Then, as Shane was planning to attack again, he received a message from Tessa.

After reading the message, Shane swiftly looked at the sky…
