Chapter 919: The Real Plan of the Overlord Clan

These Undead Summons weren’t that durable or even that fast… However, they were enough to act as cannon fodder.

They didn’t just use their weapons or equipment to defend the retreating Super Soldiers. They even used their bodies as they absorbed the flames, intercepted the strike squads, until they collapsed under the weight of enemy fire.

But they bought time.

The Super Soldiers reached the outer perimeter, dragging Max, Elsa, Lily, and the others behind the Aegis Barrier. Every summoned creature was destroyed, and not one remained, but in the end, they succeeded in their mission!

The team that had destroyed the Siege Weapon was saved!

Now, with the Gravedigger gone and the enemy would be forced to advance… If they wanted to breach the shelter, they had to step closer, and if they did… The Mk.V turrets would be waiting.

***

The battlefield had quieted, but only for a moment.

With the Gravedigger destroyed and the Aegis Barrier still holding, the Overlord Clan’s forward momentum had stalled.

The mortar crews were gone. The exosuits had pulled back and even the Flamecaster Division had begun repositioning, wary of the Mk.V turrets and Snipers from afar…

Lesley frowned at the sight of the Siege Weapon’s remains. It was their sure way of bombarding the Silver Mine Camp without getting into their turret’s range after all.

Nonetheless, this wasn’t just their plan to win. They had come here with several methods to deal with their target… all for the sake of the Spirit Vein.

“We will proceed to the next plan. Is that alright?” she asked the other two leaders. “Snipers, archers, and those turrets… They’ll wait for us to come…”

Orlando grunted and nodded.

“Yeah. It’s better this way, I guess. I’ve got the special golems ready. Bigger ones… They should be fine reaching the Shelter’s wall before being destroyed. They have the highest resistance with at least three cores each… Those snipers won’t be enough to destroy them.

“I’m also ready with the plan… My Spirit Points had already recovered. I trust your Golems, Orlando.” Kara replied as she slowly retreated to prepare for her plan…

“Those Mk.Vs might tear them apart before they get within fifty meters. I will also try to support them.”

Orlando nodded… “I see… So we don’t send them as is?”

Kara tilted her head. “Do you not want me to cloak them?”

“Can you?” Lesley asked…

Kara gave a faint smile. “Super Stealth Talent. I can mask their heat signatures and suppress their movement noise. Won’t make them invisible, but it’ll stop any targeting systems from locking on them… Their speed would also be slightly boosted.

Lesley considered that. “Long enough to get them into range? Then that’s better. Make sure you have still have enough Spirit Points for the next phase…”

“Don’t worry… It will be long enough to make them look like a threat,” Kara replied. “And that’s all we need.”

Orlando nodded. “They’ll focus fire on the golems. Meanwhile, we reposition. We still have fourteen squads, and the Flamecasters aren’t out of fuel yet.”

Lesley turned her gaze toward the distant dome created by the Shelter’s barrier.

“We came here to conquer the Silver Mine Camp. We’re not leaving until it’s done.” She muttered…

Soon, their heavy units began pulling back… The exosuits, barrier crews, and support teams are retreating to the second line. They were too exposed now.

The Mk.Vs had line of sight, and the snipers had already claimed two scouts who lingered too long.

“Deploy the Stone Golems,” Lesley ordered. “Kara, do your thing.”

Kara vanished into the haze, as she activated her Talent.

Moments later, the ground trembled again.

A total of sixteen Stone Golems emerged from the rear formation… They were massive, slow-moving constructs.

Their movements were quiet, and their heat or energy signatures dampened. They advanced in a staggered line, heading straight for the Silver Mine Camp.

Inside the shelter, Shane watched from the command post.

“New contacts…” Minerva reported. “Sixteen large Stone Golems. Skills like Fireballs and Wind Blades weren’t useful against them.”

“Stone-class, huh.” Lysandra muttered. “They’re trying to bait the turrets.”

Shane didn’t hesitate. “It’s fine… Let the Mk.Vs handle it.”

The Sentinel Mk-V turrets activated instantly.

[ Adaptive Targeting System: Engaged ]

[ Threat Level: High… Target Type: Golem-Class… Firing Solution: Confirmed ]

The first turret fired its Energy Lances… They were concentrated beams that pierced through the golems’ outer shells. The second launched Incendiary Cluster Bombs, blanketing the area in micro-explosions. The third followed with Ice Darts, freezing joints, and slowing movement.

Within seconds, the Stone Golems were reduced to rubble.

Their targeting system was still alright and weren’t blocked by Kara’s ability….

Nonetheless, the golems continued moving… They endured the bombardment as they advanced forward.

Soon, three golems were destroyed, leaving only 13 left… Then, another five were destroyed as the Mk.V Turrets concentrated on them.

Still, the turrets needed a moment to cool down, and during this time, the snipers, ballista, and other skills of the Survivors were used.

In just a few moments, only six stone golems were left!

Shane narrowed his eyes as he felt that there was something off about this.

“Wait…” Shane muttered to himself as he noticed something.

Looking at the destroyed golems, he felt that there was something off… There were strange, pulsing lights inside the shattered cores of the Golems.

“Cloud… Scan it for me…”

The feed adjusted.

Inside the broken golems were small, glowing canisters or items, and each one was actually marked with something familiar…

It didn’t take that long before Cloud was able to analyze what it was…

[ Zombie Lure… 95% Match… ]

“Oh no…” Shane muttered. “They weren’t just golems. They were delivery systems.”

At this point, Shane wanted to stop the Turrets from eliminating the last six Golems, but in the end, the Golems themselves exploded! It seemed that Orlando already felt satisfied and released his control on the golems…

Soon, the Zombie Lures scattered near the walls and turned into smoke!

From the distant hills, the first wave of Zombies started appearing!

And when Shane turned back toward the enemy’s rear formation… Lesley, Orlando, Kara, and all other members of the Overlord Clan were gone.

“Where did they go?” Lysandra asked as she also noticed this.

Shane frowned at this as he realized the enemy’s plan all along… “Kara’s Super Stealth, huh…”
