Chapter 915: Longer Range
Further up the trail, a net sprang from the ground, yanking two soldiers into the air.
They cursed, tangled in rope and debris, but even without help, they easily cut down the nets that bound them. No one was injured…
Then came the rockfalls.
Loose boulders tumbled from above… Again, these boulders wouldn’t kill anyone, but they slammed into shields and forced the squads to pause for a bit as they needed to protect their vehicles.
They had various Skills and Equipment to protect themselves, but the vehicles did not have anything to protect themselves aside from the unactivated barrier that Heavy Unit C was carrying.
“They’re not taking casualties,” Austin said from ramparts… “But they’re losing their formation even for a little.”
“That’s fine… We just need to annoy them a bit.” Shane replied as he used his Scouter Lens…
It was the recently obtained Epic Monocle… and of course, his target was none other than Lesley in the distance. She stood near the rear formation, flanked by elite strike units and a few scouts.
Her posture seemed relaxed and almost bored, yet he could feel her overwhelming presence. If he were to make an estimate, Lesley might be Level 60 or 65 already.
Soon, his Lens found the information that he needed.
[ Scouter Lens Activated
Target: Lesley ( Level 61 )
Talent Scan: In Progress…
Cooldown: 5 minutes ]
It didn’t take that long before Shane learned more about Lesley’s abilities.
First, he saw Lesley’s set of Talents. However, due to the limitation of the item, he couldn’t exactly get the detailed information about the duration, the cooldown, the Spirit Point cost, and other factors.
Still, Shane at least had an idea of what he was dealing with.
[ Talent Profile: Lesley ]
– Petrification Gaze (Legendary): Can petrify targets within line of sight. Duration and range scale with focus.
– Mental Fortress (Epic): Grants resistance to psychic interference, illusions, and fear-based effects.
– Super Commander (Rare): Boosts coordination and reaction speed of nearby allies.
– Rock Toucher (Epic): Allows manipulation of terrain and stone-based constructs. Can reinforce walls or create temporary cover.
“So she’s also a battlefield commander… No wonder she was sent here.” Shane mused as he read through her talents.
Of course, he didn’t know whether she could only detect four talents or that her Lens could only detect four due to limitations. But it was good information nonetheless.
Then, the lens continued, revealing her top five skills and their basic information.
[ Skill Profile: Lesley ]
– Gaze of Ruin: A focused stare that petrifies the target’s soul within 15 meters. Can bypass basic resistance gear.
– Stone Pulse: Sends a shockwave through the ground, knocking back enemies and disrupting footing.
– Command Echo: Temporarily boosts ally movement and agility by 20% within a 30-meter radius.
– Granite Shell: Creates a stone barrier around herself or an ally. Absorbs up to 5,000 damage.
– Quick Dash: A quick dash in a straight direction within 15 meters.
Shane exhaled slowly.
“Hmm? Quick Dash is included in the Top Skill?’ Shane mused that he had better movement skills than that. However, since he couldn’t see the cooldown, skill level, and SP cost, he could only assume that it was cheap to use and probably had no cooldown at all.
Then, that would be reasonable to make it into the Top 5 skills.
After a few moments, the monocle dimmed as it returned to standby.
[ Scan complete. Cooldown: 5 minutes ]
Shane turned back to everyone and shared the information he got…
Unfortunately, he couldn’t scan Orlando and Kara yet since he had to wait for the 5-minute cooldown.
With their current pace, Shane knew that the traps they placed would not be enough to slow them down.
Shane could see that the traps hadn’t stopped anyone, but they’d forced the squads to slow and that was enough…
Now, the enemy was advancing in full formation.
Squads 1 to 8 were indeed their standard infantry. They were definitely level 35 to level 40 Survivors. They probably wore Tier 4 gear while holding those rifles.
They weren’t rushing on their advance as they were clearing the path like they’d done in countless tunnels.
Each squad moved while covering angles, checking terrain, and watching for ambushes.
They were being thorough after the traps had started to become annoying.
Behind them, Squads 9 to 12 deployed their mobile stations. Engineers dropped sensor beacons into the soil while some scouts launched aerial drones overhead…”
“They’re setting up a forward ops line,” Lysandra noted. “Interesting… They’re actually preparing for a prolonged engagement.”
Shane nodded. “I guess they’re planning for a long siege. This will be better for us.”
Then came Squads 13 and 14.
The elite strike units.
Each member wore sets of armor that were possibly Tier 5…
Their movements were quite unpredictable as they didn’t follow the same formation as the others. They started spreading out as if they were calculating how to climb the walls or bypass their defense.
And behind them, the ground trembled.
The Steamroller Frame Team advanced slowly…
Shane and the others saw six Survivors in exosuits.
One of them stepped over a spike trap and crushed it flat without even noticing.
To their left, the Flamecaster Division had also begun setting up its equipment.
Six operators in Tier 5 suits prepared themselves with their flamethrowers’ nozzles already lit…
And to the right, the Shock Barrier Crew with five operators also triggered their Barrier Generators!
Then, Diana and the rest of the officers couldn’t help but feel impressed with the Siege Weapons.
“So that’s what it looks like.” Diana muttered.
“Don’t underestimate it… Those things were attacked by my Banshees, but nothing happened.” Asad muttered.
They had two Siege Weapons, the Ironback and the Gravedigger.
Ironback had eight wheels crushing the terrain beneath it. It had mounted turrets and could carry a lot of Survivors inside.
Gravedigger, on the other hand, had already locked itself on the ground. Then, it’s mortar system locked into place as their barrel tilted upward…
They actually had a longer range than the wall-mounted turrets of the Silver Mine Camp!
