Chapter 912: Lesley’s Team
As Shane opened his inventory, it only took him a moment before he released something that shocked the defenders behind him, including Diana.
A capsule the size of a backpack materialized in his hand. The moment it touched the ground, its gears started moving and then unfolded.
Metal limbs extended outward, locking into place. A central core rose from the base, rotating once as its targeting lens activated.
Soon, the turret’s frame appeared, and it was very slim compared to the Mk-IVs they were used to.
Furthermore, its triple-barrel configuration looked a lot more serious…
Diana stepped forward, stunned.
“…That’s not a Mk-IV,” she said.
“No,” Shane replied. “It’s an Mk-V.”
The defenders nearby froze. Even the engineers paused as they saw it…
One of the scouts whispered, “I thought those were only deployed in Eclipse Domain…”
He had visited the Eclipse Domain before and saw this Turret. However, this was his first time seeing how it was assembled and how it appeared here…
“They were,” Shane said. “Until now… Still, I have eight of these here. They’ll be your new protection.”
The turret’s interface synced with the camp’s defense grid. A soft chime echoed through the perimeter as the system registered the new unit.
Shane then showed the basic information of the turret.
[ Sentinel Mk-V Automated Turret ]
[ Status: Active – Overwatch Mode Enabled ]
[ Threat Detection Radius: 120 meters ]
[ Ammunition Cycle: Energy Lances / Incendiary Cluster Bombs / Cryo Darts ]
[ Energy Source: 30 High-Grade Mana Crystals ]
“Ahh… They operate on Mana Crystals? Not even Spirit Stones?” Diana asked in shock. She thought that she could use the Spirit Stones from the mine to power them up. If not, she wanted them to operate with Power Cores at the very least.
“Don’t worry about it. They’re originally made to run using Power Cores. But I recently got hold of special elves that made these things capable of running using Mana Crystals. I have many supplies of Mana Crystals, and if I can’t supply you for a while, you can still use Spirit Stones.” Shane explained.
“Got it…” Diana replied as she watched the lens rotate again, scanning the horizon.
Diana circled the turret slowly.
“It looked smaller but it must be heavier than the Mk-IV,” she said. “But the core housing… It’s shielded… is it the effect of the Mana Crystal?”
“Not really… It’s some kind of mana-reactive shell… It won’t short out from EMPs or spectral interference.”
Shane knew that the Overlord Clan and other powerful Clans had access to EMPs and other possible devices that could interfere with machines. With that in mind, he needed to ensure that his Mk-V would be different.
Soon, the turret shifted slightly, locking onto a distant bird before disengaging… Its targeting system was already active, prioritizing movement signatures and heat sources.
Of course, that bird was Sparky, Shane’s pet, just roaming the sky.
Soon, the Blood Talon engineers and Diana wanted to know its full capability. They approached it and swiftly appraised…
[ Sentinel Mk-V Automated Turret: An automated defense technology, developed as a direct successor to the Mk-IV series. Engineered for maximum battlefield control, it features a tri-weapon system and enhanced tactical intelligence.
Specifications:
Energy Lances: Upgraded from standard energy bullets, these concentrated beams can pierce high-grade armor. Effective against both organic and mechanical targets.
Incendiary Cluster Bombs: Upon launch, each bomb splits into multiple micro-bombs for a large area of effect.
Ice Darts: Special darts that freeze targets on contact, slowing movement and regeneration.
Features: Adaptive Targeting System, Autonomous Operation, Overwatch Mode, Remote Control Compatibility, and Shielded Core Housing. ]
“This thing’s got ice darts?” One of the engineers muttered in surprise… It wasn’t something that normal turrets could produce after all.
Shane nodded. “It can freeze Leapers mid-jump. Or slow down regenerating types.”
Well, most of the speed-type Zombies were difficult to deal with since the common turrets and unskilled snipers could barely catch them.
The engineer couldn’t help but feel excited. They wanted to study it. “We’ve never had anything like this.”
“You do now,” Shane said. “If the siege from the enemies gets here, this turret will hold the line.”
Soon, he installed the rest of the Turrets…
Now, Shane felt that even if he left this place, they would have a higher chance of winning against the elite units of the Overlord Clan sent to take over this place.
Just as Shane considered leaving Silver Mine Camp, his interface blinked.
A private message came through.
[ Asad: Shane… I tried. These guys are too strong. I wanted to delay them for long, but one hour is already too much for me. ]
Shane froze.
Asad was a Rank 2 Survivor. A Necromancer with one of the most overwhelming summon arsenals…
He had Skeleton King, Abyssal Knight, Mummy Lord, Doom Knights, Lich Kings, and others… Even his Bone Wall and Grave Mist skills could stall entire platoons.
And yet… he failed to hold the line.
Shane immediately replied.
[ Shane: What happened? Is it Lesley? ]
He asked because Lesley’s petrification ability was notorious. Her Legendary Talent allowed her to lock down entire squads with a single glance. Survivors who didn’t have resistance gear were turned into statues… sometimes permanently.
But Asad’s reply came fast.
[ Asad: Lesley’s there… but it’s not just her. Orlando and Kara are with her. ]
Shane nodded.
Orlando was the Golem Summoner. His Legendary Talent allowed him to use cores into autonomous siege-class golems.
Each one was a walking fortress and of course, Shane learned this from Travis.
[ Asad: Orlando summoned three Elemental Golems. One of them’s a Lava Core type. It melted through my Bone Fortress in seconds. I tried to counter with the Abyssal Knight, but it couldn’t even get close. ]
Shane finally understood. Deathly Energy just didn’t work against Golems. It was a difficult match to begin with.
[ Asad: And Kara… I didn’t even know she was there until it was too late. She’s using her Super Stealth Talent. She bypassed my perimeter and assassinated two of my Lich Kings. I was almost caught as well. I only noticed her because one of my Doom Knights triggered a passive detection rune. ]
[ Asad: I’m retreating… Thankfully, Travis warned us about this. ]
Shane nodded. He must treat Travis later on for giving them a heads-up. Now, they were truly ready to face them.
[ Shane: You also did well buying time. Good job, Asad. ]
This was indeed valuable information.
[ Asad: Yes. Remember your promise. You have to give us your blessing if the elf falls in love with me. ]
