Chapter 757: Greed And Kindness

The gods frowned.

Of course, they about the nature of the Shadow Windows.

It was one of the oldest laws of the Shadow Element, and one of the main reasons so few people ever awakened it.

Because Shadow Windows were death traps.

Inside them were creatures that could copy your appearance, your abilities, your Concepts, your Worlds, everything.

You would end up fighting yourself, or something that looked like you but was worse.

Even Stage 6 Gods could die there.

When Jack had died for the first time, he had saved by this nature of Shadow Windows.

Neo had come to save him back then before he was permanently killed by the Shadow monsters.

“Isn’t this weird? Why resurrect us inside the Shadow Windows if we’re just going to be killed by the monsters there? Why do you think the Shadow Supreme does this?”

The Gods didn’t answer.

They frowned, watching him carefully.

Jack continued before they could speak.

“Because the Shadow Supreme is greedy,” he said with a small laugh. “He doesn’t just want our techniques. Even if he copies them, even if he makes them stronger, they’re still ours.

“No one can strengthen the techniques perfectly instead of the original creator.

“That’s why Shadow Supreme resurrects us inside Windows, and let us die there.

“When we die in Shadow Windows connected to his world, he can take our existence.”

Some of the Gods exchanged looks.

Jack took a step forward.

“Have you seen his puppets?” he asked. “They used to be Shadow Element users.

“He turned them into puppets, let them keep their will just enough to keep training.

“It’s all so he can copy their techniques once they’ve perfected them.”

None of the Gods looked surprised.

They all knew.

The Shadow Supreme’s reputation wasn’t something new.

“That wasn’t our question,” one of the Alliance Gods said, his tone sharp. “Tell us what that Sacred Treasure is in your hand.”

Jack glanced at his arm, at the black lines spreading across his skin.

He smiled again.

“This?” he said. “It’s a key. A key to open a door to the Shadow World.”

Confusion spread among the Gods.

They murmured to one another, unsure what he meant.

Then Jack raised his arm and pressed his fingers against the lines.

Before anyone could react, the black marks began to glow.

A low hum filled the air, followed by a strange vibration that made the ground tremble.

“Shadow Supreme,” Jack said quietly, his voice steady. “I know you can hear me.”

The air changed immediately.

The Gods sensed something was wrong.

They moved at once, trying to attack him before he could finish.

But they weren’t the only ones who noticed.

Ilyana’s army, still fighting across the torn battlefield, realized Jack was preparing something.

“Protect the Queen’s consort!”

“Protect the Queen’s consort!”

They charged forward, clashing with the Alliance forces to buy him time.

Some of them even sacrificed their lives, using everything they had left.

Jack didn’t stop.

“Necromancy is powerful, isn’t it?” he said, almost like he was talking to someone only he could see. “It’s powerful enough that you wanted it at any cost. That’s why you left this Sacred Treasure inside that Window.”

One of the Gods shouted, “Stop him!”

But it was already too late.

Dark mist erupted from Jack’s arm.

It twisted and rose like smoke, spreading across the battlefield.

The air turned heavy, almost suffocating.

Jack kept speaking calmly.

“Use this Gate to enter this World,” he said. “Defeat these Gods. Then, I’ll let you kill me. If you don’t…”

He gave a small laugh.

“Well, both of us know how many backup plans I have. With necromancy, I can never really die.”

The words made the air colder.

Even the Gods hesitated for a moment.

After spending so long under Nyxtharion, Jack understood why the Shadow Supreme had stripped everything from him, his grandson.

It wasn’t because necromancy was dangerous.

It was because of his greed and kindness.

Greed because the Shadow Supreme didn’t want Nyxtharion to become Supreme, as that would allow others to use Necromancy Element.

He wanted to be the only one who could use necromancy freely.

Kindness because he could’ve turned Nyxtharion into a puppet, like he did with so many others.

He could’ve used him as a [Technique Source], using him to create the perfect Necromancy for himself.

But he held back his insatiable greed.

Instead, he waited.

He waited for another prodigy of necromancy to appear again.

Someone who could become his puppet.

Jack exhaled slowly, watching as the black mist formed patterns in the air.

The battle continued in the distance.

Drasthel soldiers and undead fought side by side, doing their best to holdi their ground against the Alliance’s Gods.

The noise of metal, magic, and explosions echoed endlessly.

But Jack’s focus was elsewhere.

He was waiting.

Waiting for the response of the one who ruled over all shadows.

Then, a voice, cold and distant, whispered inside his head.

‘Help you? Why should I do that?’

Jack didn’t flinch.

He had been expecting this tone.

The voice continued, smooth and detached.

‘Everything you’ve said so far, all these claims that I lust for Necromancy, is baseless.’

‘Tell me, why should I burn my strength to descend into your world?’

Jack smirked faintly. “You’re seriously asking that?”

He raised his hand, signaling his undead army to keep fighting.

The ground trembled as countless bones moved in unison, clashing with divine light and fire.

“Fine,” he said softly. “I’ll entertain you.”

He watched the black mist swirl around his arm.

“I’m promise you this… I’ll never die. If you don’t help me here, I’ll make sure to survive no matter what happens.”

His tone grew sharper.

“And I’ll kill every God who holds Necromancy. I’ll destroy their souls one by one. I’ll never let you touch that power.”

The battlefield trembled.

The air turned colder.

The Shadow Supreme’s voice flowed into Jack’s mind like a whisper carried by the wind.

‘The Gods you’re facing, and a hole in the Complete World that has trapped the Heavenbreaker—’

‘That’s all I can do for you. That’s the limit of what I’m allowed to do in your world.’

Jack frowned. “Then do it.”

‘Even if I do,’ the voice replied, calm and unbothered, ‘nothing will change.’

‘What you’re fighting against is not the Alliance. It’s Fate itself, Depraved One.’

Jack stayed quiet.

The Shadow Supreme’s tone darkened, almost like a whisper from far away.

‘The future is already set in stone.’

‘You will lose.’

Jack smiled, almost amused. “I’ll accept your deal.”

A pause followed.

‘Even if nothing will change? Why go so far to die in my hands?’

“Because I know he will smash through your pre-determined future.”

He lifted his gaze to the sky.

“So just kill the Gods here. They’ll be his nourishment.”

There was silence for a moment.

Then, the sound of laughter echoed faintly through his mind.

It wasn’t loud or mocking.

It was deep and cold, as if the whole world laughed with it.

‘Fine.’

‘If despair is your destination you have chosen, then I will be the path you walk upon to reach it.’

“That’s all I wanted to hear.”

Jack closed his eyes.

The sky above him cracked.

The shadowed mist began to move violently, spreading across the battlefield like waves.

The Alliance Gods looked up, sensing something vast and ancient pressing down on them.

“What is this…?” one of them muttered.

The others readied their weapons, but unease filled their eyes.

Jack raised his hand, black light covering his body.

“Your end,” he said quietly.

The black mist swallowed the battlefield, and the world shook as if something enormous was trying to break through from another reality.
