Capítulo 3282: The Commonality

Shumi did exactly as Alex asked, telling him about the trials she had taken.

“The first trial I took was a suppression test,” she began.

Alex nodded. “Same here.”

“The second trial had a spiral hedge that I had to push an uneven rock through.”

Once again, it was the same as Alex. He nodded, beckoning her to continue. Shumi did.

“The third trial had pools of lava from where small fire birds sprung out to attack us. They were relatively easy to handle.”

“The fourth trial had a venomous fog I had to go through.”

“The fifth trial was another suppression test, this time much stronger than before. Many failed.”

“The sixth trial was one where we had to pour a lot of Qi into the formation at the center. I gave up the first time around here. The second time around, I came back with many resources prepared to improve my Qi while in there.”

“The seventh trial was another one with stronger fire birds. This time, they couldn’t be stopped physically, so everyone but me failed.”

Alex was a little surprised, considering there had been four people that had passed that trial in his batch. Pearl and Scarlet passed because of him, but Wu Tanglan had made it through all on his own.

“The eighth trial was one with a poison forest. It was also the trial where the black and white spires appeared for me to use.”

“The ninth—”

“How did you pass the eighth trial?” Alex asked, cutting her off.

“It’s just poison,” she explained. “I have a Qi Quelling Physique after all, so poison doesn’t do anything to me.”

Alex laughed a little while nodding. “I get that. I meant to ask if you bothered deactivating the white spire.”

“Oh. No,” Shumi said simply. “I had no reason to worry about the trial, and I was alone, so there was no point.”

Alex nodded. That made sense. “Please continue.”

Shumi nodded and continued speaking. “The ninth trial was one with tongues of flames that turned into birds inside my spiritual sea. But since I had the Spirit Quelling Mist, I didn’t have to worry.”

“The tenth trial was one that had immense pressure, to the point where I was forced to use my Unbreakable God Physique to pass.”

“The eleventh trial was one that forced me to pour in a lot of Qi in a very short amount of time. Thankfully, there were poison plants there, so I converted them to Qi and passed.”

“The twelfth trial was another poison island, this time much stronger. It was also where I met this little guy. We passed that trial together and arrived here at the 13th trial.”

Listening to it all, Alex couldn’t help but be surprised at how the trials for them were exactly the same. He would have expected a small variation here and there, maybe switching around the order, but it was all exactly the same, despite them having taken part in it in different regions.

“My trials were exactly the same,” Alex said. “There must be a reason why it was exactly the same.”

Shumi gave a slight look of surprise. “So it was as we thought,” she said. “But I can’t see anything similar between the trials. They were different enough from each other from what I can tell.”

Alex nodded. “At first, I thought the order might have something to do with it. How it goes from suppression to Qi depletion to fire birds to poison, but that order is messed up throughout.”

Shumi nodded as well, but then her eyes narrowed. “But those are the trials that show up again and again, right? Stronger than ever, but it’s the same four or five trials again and again.”

Alex took in her words and nodded. “Yes, it’s the same four trials. The one with the fire birds appearing in our spiritual sea happens once, but that’s likely because there was no point in doing that again and again since you can’t really scale that trial.”

Shumi seemed excited as she continued talking. “They get stronger and stronger, don’t they? Inhumanly stronger. To the point where even Divinities would struggle to pass these trials. Maybe one or two, but not all of them. The last four trials before the final one are especially impossible.”

Alex nodded. Trials 9 through 12 were pretty much impossible for a regular person to complete, likely even with great artifacts.

A bird capable of killing Divinities had to be given access to their spiritual sea. A pressure capable of stopping a Divinity had to be walked through. An amount of Qi equal to 50 times the size of their dantian had to be poured into a platform. A forest of poisonous plants that could kill Divinities had to be walked through.

It wouldn’t be strange for someone to pass one of these trials—given that even Whisker had gotten through the poison one. But all of them? That was impossible.

Or… nearly impossible.

There were two people for whom it wasn’t impossible, and they were sitting right in front of each other.

Shumi took off her veil again, her wide eyes looking directly into Alex’s. She had come to the same conclusion as Alex.

“This trial is the same as all the other trials,” Alex repeated the bird’s words. “It can only be completed by the two who hold the bodies of the True God.”

Shumi nodded. “The trial is for us,” she said. “Everything has been set up for the two of us. Because of that, we are the only people who could have passed through all those trials, not because we are capable, but because we were born capable.”

Alex nodded. “It was the properties of our two bodies that have allowed us to pass through each trial before, all the way from the start. So, it only makes sense that we have to rely on them to pass this one as well.”

Alex stood up. “We don’t have to find any entryway or use some trick to use what exists on this island. All we can rely on here are the True Gods’ bodies.”
