Chapter 498: Ch-498: Golden Leaf City Prison

Golden City Prison

The Golden City Prison was one of the most fearsome prisons in the Black Bamboo Kingdom. Compared to this, the prisons of the sects were child’s play. The prison existed in its own independent dimension that few people could access, and for this reason, escaping from this prison was nearly impossible.

Its interior was as oppressive as the worst prisons—dark and suffocating, with damp stone walls that trapped the stench of decay. The air was thick with the foul mix of sweat, blood, and something more sinister, a scent that spoke of countless souls who had suffered within its depths.

Tap. Tap.

The sound of footsteps could be heard, and the guards who were at the entrance frowned and looked toward the source of the sound.

“Isn’t that the Seventh Elder? Why is he here?” said a guard in a confused tone.

“He must be here to see his grandson. Did you forget that he was brought here by our superiors and tossed into a special cell?” said the other guard, with contempt and disdain dripping from his voice.

“Oh, it completely slipped my mind due to the gloomy atmosphere of this place, but… it looks like he is carrying someone,” said the guard as he narrowed his eyes at the mobile treasure. It carried an iron cage reinforced by glowing arrays, and there was an unconscious man chained to the metal bars. There was also a collar around his neck, which was chained as well.

“Halt, state your purpose,” the guard shouted and glared at him with an unwelcoming gaze. The Seventh Elder paused his steps and looked at the duo calmly, unbothered by their hostile stares.

“I heard my grandson is present. I came to pay him one last visit,” the Seventh Elder said, and for some reason, the guard shuddered upon hearing his tone.

“What about him?” the guard said as he pointed toward the prisoner, who seemed to be unconscious.

“Oh, him? He is a new prisoner. I am personally going to escort him,” the Seventh Elder said, which deepened the guard’s curiosity.

“I see… which floor do you want to visit?” the guard asked indifferently.

“The floor at the bottom,” the Seventh Elder said, but he noticed the guards’ eyebrows jump immediately as soon as he said that.

“What? The lowest floor?” The guard turned to look at the Seventh Elder with a surprised expression. Only the worst offenders were placed on the lowest floor.

The lowest floor was the worst place in the prison. Though it held the fewest prisoners, the air was thick with overwhelming killing intent. If someone with a timid heart entered, they would faint immediately.

“What kind of prisoner is this?” the guard asked.

“If you’re curious, look at this,” the Seventh Elder said as he removed the sleeve covering the forearm of the chained man, and the guards’ pupils contracted.

“Black Church members,” the guard leaked a bit of killing intent as they recognized the man associated with the worst terrorist group.

“This guy is a commander of the Black Church. Hurry up and open the gates; I need to toss this trash into the dump quickly,” the Seventh Elder said impatiently.

“I understand. Wait a minute,” the guard said.

The guard made some gestures and spoke in a foreign language that only a few people understood, and a portal appeared.

“Come, follow me,” the guard said as he led the Seventh Elder into the portal.

As soon as they arrived, they were greeted by two staircases made of stone—one leading downward, which seemed to descend into the depths of hell, and the other upward.

“Do you want to visit your grandson first or deal with the prisoner first?” the guard asked.

“I will visit him later,” the Seventh Elder said as he started descending down the stairs.

As soon as he started descending, he frowned as he felt an aura of dread and death, which grew stronger the deeper they went.

That feeling of dread only intensified as they moved past the cells, his eyes falling upon the prisoners within. Each one was shackled to the cold stone walls, their bodies stripped bare and of all dignity. What was most harrowing was that none of them even looked human anymore. Their skin was a grotesque tapestry of black, blue, and red—evidence of relentless beatings and unspeakable torture. Most of them were also missing limbs. Some missed only one or two, but a few didn’t have any limbs at all. The Seventh Elder and the guards looked indifferent, especially the guards, who glared at them. These were the worst offenders who had committed the most heinous crimes imaginable, and so they received the harshest punishment.

“We are here,” the guard who accompanied the elder said in a neutral voice.

The Seventh Elder peered inside the dimly lit chamber and saw a few figures completely encased in blue ice from top to bottom.

The figures inside looked completely dead, but they knew that was not the case. They were very much alive and did not die because living inside the ice was a form of torture where they could feel and hear everything but could not move at all. The pain from freezing, combined with the psychological torture of being unable to move, would drive even the toughest humans to insanity.

Clank

The Seventh Elder did not speak but walked toward the cage and directly cut the shackles off.

“Hey, are you crazy?” the guard exclaimed when he saw this and immediately prepared to attack, but to his surprise, the prisoner did not move an inch.

“He is unconscious,” the Seventh Elder said as he rolled his eyes.

He tossed the new prisoner into the cell, and the moment his body touched the ground, the prisoner was immediately encased in ice

“Let’s go,” the guard snorted as he said this. Seeing the guard turn his back toward him, the elder’s eyes glinted as he touched the item the leader had given him. He gripped it in his hand as he followed behind the guard and whispered, “Release.”

As soon as he said this, the token glowed red.

As soon as both of them vanished, a small flame appeared above the ice and plunged inside it.

Soon, cracks started to appear on the ice, and it slowly began to melt.

The figures encased in the ice suddenly opened their eyes and gave terrifying grins.
