Chapter 497: Ch-497: Moles

Everyone who saw the Seventh Elder floating midair paled. Their breaths hitched and color drained from their faces as they kept their heads lowered. A bead of sweat rolled down their temples, then another, until their whole bodies were covered in sweat and they trembled in fear.

“L… L… Leader… I-I was going to—” the Seventh Elder attempted to speak, but his nervousness tangled his words. His voice cracked like dry glass.

The clan leader did not blink and continued looking coldly.

“Tell me, do you know the meaning of this mark or not?” The leader pulled up his sleeve, and if Wang Ming had seen the symbol, he would have instantly recognized it as the white skull symbol that the members of the Black Church had on their bodies.

“Y-Yes, Leader,” the Seventh Elder said with a swallow, and there was even greater fear toward the symbol among the members than toward the leader himself.

“You do remember the ones who gave us power and assigned us a task, don’t you?” This time, the leader’s voice carried a flicker of anger and fear. The reason for their extraordinary growth, and why each member was strong and able to create an internal faction, was because they had joined the Black Church years ago.

“I-I know,” the Seventh Elder stuttered.

“Good. I thought you had forgotten. The boss said to cause trouble within the city to divert attention, as they are going to cause a commotion in the city. That’s why I turned a blind eye to your grandson’s antics—but not to this big commotion,” the leader said as the oppressive pressure from his body increased further.

“I… I…” The Seventh Elder’s body could not help but keep trembling.

“Then why did you not follow my orders when I told you to restrain your grandson? Now he has killed someone in the royal city. Do you know or not that everyone’s eyes would be on us?” the leader said angrily as he narrowed his eyes.

“I know,” whispered the elder.

Plop.

The Seventh Elder immediately plopped to the ground as the leader pressed him down using his pressure.

“Then why did you not obey my command, huh? Are you trying to rebel against me and the organization, or are you some kind of spy?” the leader said.

“No, no!” The elder’s eyes trembled when he heard the term spy and he immediately dropped to his knees in panic.

The others in the room who were standing were completely still. Heads lowered. Bodies stiff with terror. Not a single one dared to breathe out loud, let alone intervene. Even those who had good relationships with the Seventh Elder knew that if they dared to intervene or even speak, they would face a fate worse than death. They stood frozen in the room, shivers running down their spines.

“And you,” the leader snapped, turning to look at one of the members who was standing—the most nervous among them.

“You were the one who was assigned to keep that brat in check, wasn’t it?” the leader spoke in a low voice, and his voice caused the temperature in the room to drop even further.

“NO MERCY, CLAN LEADER!” the member in guard armor felt a change in his body and shouted at the top of his voice.

“!!!!!” Everyone’s pupils constricted when they saw the next scene.

“AHHHHHH!” the man howled in pain as his body was suddenly ignited by hot flames, and within seconds he turned to ash along with his armor.

“Now—” the leader looked at the Seventh Elder, and the elder’s eyes widened in pure terror when he felt an invisible wrap around his body.

“Ahh… Leader, mercy… I will make it right. I will kill my own grandson myself for this impudence!” the Seventh Elder shouted at the top of his voice. Grandson? What grandson? Staying alive was more important, and he had countless grandsons he did not care about. He felt the aura of death envelop him, but when he uttered these words, the aura of death diminished.

“Garbage,” the leader said coldly.

Slam!

“Ahhhhhh!” the Seventh Elder screamed as he was flung toward the wall by an invisible force. His scream rattled the entire chamber. He spat out a mouthful of blood from the impact, and his ears and mouth were bleeding.

Then, under the invisible force, his right arm was directly severed from his shoulder. He clutched his shoulder but did not dare make any more noise and immediately knelt while clutching his wound and kowtowed.

“Thank you for your mercy, Leader, on this lowly creature,” the Seventh Elder said.

Bam.

Bam.

The elder slammed his forehead repeatedly on the ground.

“Annoying. Stop,” the leader said. All sounds vanished, and even the others held their breath as they saw the leader rise from his sea

t.

“Make sure you all control your families. The boss said he will make his move soon in the city,” the leader said in a cold voice as he walked toward the window. His eyes gleamed as he looked at the giant statue of the emperor and snorted.

He turned back and looked at the Seventh Elder. “Seventh Elder.”

“Yes,” the elder said in a weak voice as his body was assaulted by pain.

Tok.

The leader tossed a token on the ground and said, “While you are visiting your grandson, make sure you weaken the restraints on those people who were planted inside by the boss.”

“Y-Yes,” the Seventh Elder said.

The leader vanished from the meeting room, leaving a suffocating silence behind.

It took a full minute for the elders to recover from the shock and horror. They looked at each other and could see the fear in their eyes, then looked at the Seventh Elder, who popped a pill.

The Seventh Elder’s severed hand suddenly began to regenerate, flesh and tissue repairing themselves rapidly until it looked as though the injury had never existed.

After a long, tense silence, each of them straightened up and pretended that nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. Without exchanging a single word about it, they immediately began to move and warn their families not to act recklessly.
