Chapter 603: Xenovia and Kryssia vs Orcs

“I have no choice…” Kryssia replied, raising a barrier of ice that blocked a barrage of thrown spears. The tips shattered against the crystalline wall.

The next moment was hell.

The orcs advanced all at once. A living wall of muscle, teeth, and steel. There was no strategy, only the brutal force of numbers. The crushing wave crashed down on them both like a tidal wave of flesh.

Xenovia didn’t retreat. With a roar, she leaped into the mass, her sword arcing and exploding in flames. The front line of orcs turned to coal, but ten more took their place. A club came down on her head; she dodged, twisted, and severed the enemy’s arm, blood spraying her face. Another came from behind; she impaled it without looking, kicking the body away and clearing space to continue advancing.

Kryssia raised both hands simultaneously, and the ground ahead cracked. Sharp columns of ice erupted in all directions, piercing dozens of orcs like skewers. They screamed and writhed, but were quickly crushed as she closed her hands, splitting the columns in half.

But for every orc killed, twenty emerged.

“This is… endless!” Kryssia screamed, retreating a few steps.

“Then we kill until the island has nothing left to spit!” Xenovia replied, her eyes glowing with madness.

The battlefield was now a grotesque spectacle. Frozen corpses were engulfed in black flames. Severed limbs rolled across the ice. The howls of pain mingled with the war roars, creating a cacophony that would drive any human mad.

And yet, the two stood firm.

Kryssia supported Xenovia with walls, spears, and ice traps, controlling the battlefield. Xenovia advanced like the tip of a spear, devastating anything that dared come near. It was a macabre ballet: fire and ice, shadow and cold, cutting through endless waves of enemies.

Time passed.

Minutes? Hours? They no longer knew.

The sky was beginning to darken, and even the night seemed to bleed with the accumulation of bodies.

It was then that the air changed.

An eerie silence fell over the field.

The orcs suddenly retreated, as if obeying an invisible command. They stopped attacking, forming a wide circle around the two.

Xenovia panted, her chest rising and falling as if it were about to explode. Kryssia fell to her knees, bracing herself against the ice, her arms shaking with exhaustion.

“They… stopped?” Kryssia murmured, confused.

Xenovia raised her sword, still on guard. Her eyes narrowed. “No. This isn’t over.”

It was then that the earth shook.

A roar echoed, low and deep, as if coming from the heart of the island itself. The surrounding trees swayed, birds fled in despair. From the forest, something moved.

The orcs parted, banging their weapons against the ground in reverence.

And the creature emerged.

It was an orc, but not like the others.

Its body stood over four meters tall, muscles so dense they resembled living stone. Its skin was black, covered in runic symbols that glowed red. Its eyes were flaming slits, and in its hands it held an axe forged from bone and raw iron.

Xenovia’s eyes widened. Kryssia felt her heart freeze.

“A… champion…” Kryssia whispered.

The monster raised the axe and slammed it into the ground. The impact opened a crater, cracking the ice in all directions. The sound was so loud they both had to cover their ears.

Xenovia spat blood onto the ground and smiled savagely. “Finally, something worthwhile.”

“Are you crazy?!” Kryssia screamed. “I can barely stand!”

“Then sit back and watch, because I’m going to cut this son of a bitch down!” Xenovia roared, rushing forward.

The champion lunged at the same time. The axe came down with enough force to split a house in half. Xenovia raised her sword to block, and the impact sent a shockwave that threw dozens of orcs back. The ground cracked beneath her feet, and her bones shook, but she held on.

“Is that all?!” she screamed, pushing the axe aside and counterattacking. Her blade of black fire sliced through the monster’s arm, but didn’t go all the way through—it only left a charred scar.

The champion roared, swinging the axe horizontally. Xenovia jumped back, but the blade passed so close it severed a few strands of her hair.

Kryssia forced herself to her feet. Her body begged for rest, but she knew that if she didn’t help, Xenovia would be crushed.

She raised her arms and launched a giant ice spear at the champion. The projectile pierced his shoulder, piercing through flesh and muscle. The monster roared in pain, but didn’t fall.

Xenovia took advantage, lunging forward once more. With a diagonal slash, she exploded the wound in black flames, spraying blood and smoke.

But the champion only smiled.

A hideous smile, full of broken teeth.

He raised his axe with both hands and, with one swing, swept across the field. Xenovia blocked, but was thrown through the air like a doll. She crashed through trees, breaking trunks until finally falling to her knees, coughing blood.

“XENO!” Kryssia screamed in despair.

The champion walked slowly toward her, ignoring his own injuries. The circle of orcs roared in ecstasy, celebrating the executioner’s arrival.

Kryssia closed her eyes, her hands trembling. The ice answered the call, growing like an entire forest, spikes sprouting everywhere. She threw it all at once at the champion.

The impact was devastating. The ice spears pierced his body, raising a cloud of blood and smoke. The ground shook, and for a moment it seemed as if the beast had fallen.

Silence.

But then… the sound.

A low, guttural laugh.

The champion rose again, even though his body was studded with ice. One eye had been destroyed, but the other glowed even brighter. He ripped the stakes from his body and spat blood onto the ground, roaring at the sky.

Kryssia staggered back in horror.

Xenovia stood, her face bloodied, but her smile still there.

“I told you… Kryssia…” She spat blood and raised her sword again. “This isn’t over until we take his head.”
