Capítulo 735: The Valkyrie Brigade
Not long after the Empire’s delegates returned to the isolated western palace, away from essential parts of imperial interest, a pair of elegant women headed down a hidden stone stairwell that appeared from within a massive portrait of Asmodeus.
“Sister?”
Lumina followed Serena, who had hastily headed towards the underground training facility. Serena remained silent as the click of her heels echoed throughout the lower floors of the citadel.
“Hm?” She finally turned back, noticing Lumina’s furrowed brow, her snow-white lashes lowering as she frowned. “What’s the matter, Lumina?”
‘I almost lost my composure because of those fools.’
‘I need more practice.’
She couldn’t imitate Asmodeus’s cold persona; sometimes, she envied how he rarely showed signs of anger or at least enough that he lost composure.
However, after killing the ones who insulted her, a quiet, low voice constantly whispered in the back of her mind without end.
‘Wouldn’t he be happy if you killed them all?’
‘What if we stripped that slut, and flung her to his bed?’
‘Ah~ I want to see my husband and squeeze him dry of every last drop.’
‘Then no whores can steal him from me.’
Thought after thought assaulted her mind like a spiked hammer.
“Everything is fine, Sister. It’s just.” Lumina’s beautiful eight eyes that shimmered crimson red like rubies lowered to Serena’s hands and softly closed. “Your hand… It’s bleeding.”
“O-Oh?”
Serena’s shoulders shook as she stopped walking. Her shadow flickered on the dark stone walls as the mana-lights shone with a faint blue hue. “You’re right…” Several trails of blood leaked from four lacerations caused by her long nails.
‘I felt nothing.’
Her heart raced.
Ba-dump!
Ba-dump!
Ba-dump!
Whenever those voices spoke, they whispered her deepest desires. This confused and misled Serena, weakening her connection to the world, as if her astral body slipped free and joined Asmodeus as her heart desired.
‘His warmth, I want it so badly~’
When she first became his lover, his other women didn’t matter. In fact, she was the one who brought them together, always playing matchmaker. Yet, now. After becoming his empress, learning more about him, she fell deeper into that sickeningly sweet mire called love.
Serena found a darker side to her seemingly pure emotions.
Jealousy, obsession, overwhelming lust.
If not for the lovely children he’d given her, she might have lost her mind.
“Sister?”
Once again, it appeared she fell into a strange moment of obsession as she lifted her palm and extended her tongue. With each lick, the wounds quickly sealed into perfectly smooth, fair skin.
“Let’s continue, Lumina.”
“Mhm!”
Lumina’s attachment to Serena also helped settle her mind. The former hero and goddess reminded her that mistakes and growing too possessive of him would lead to a dangerous situation where ten or more women with the power of a deity clashed.
Serena wasn’t a goddess built for combat, but that’s when her plan to form a tight alliance with Lumina came.
One would take the path of pure energy and divine arts growth.
The other would focus on creating the perfect body, impervious to most magic and damage, able to fight and keep up with her husband.
Serena wanted to take this role at first, but then realised that her body just couldn’t reach those limits, even when she pushed herself and tried to pour half her divine aura into her muscles and limbs, the bones and tendons began to degrade and crack.
‘All because I was born to become a goddess of the moon…’
Unlike the other women who were ascending for the first time, those who fall back to being mortal and rise again cannot change their vessels a great deal. As if her body were a vase, her style and shape were already moulded and formed.
‘Well, everything worked out in the end.’
Lumina was different, the opposite of her as a goddess designed to battle evil and corruption like the demons and the demon queen.
Thus, they formed their pact and team.
‘I am sure that lizard, Velvet did the same with Vinea, Alice and Levia. As for Erika, maybe she’s still salvageable.’
Lumina and Serena’s footsteps echoed as their minds ticked along, with one worried about the situation and the other scheming to kill the visitors who had insulted her earlier. ‘Being a monster is fine, but how dare those insects use it as an insult or slur!’
Serena grit her teeth.
The emotions she once cast away are so addictive and challenging to control. Once she accepted them and let each one run rampant through her body and mind.
Steps echoed, once, twice, until the countless echoes ended and the pair arrived at a pair of giant black doors. Etched onto the surface were a series of beautiful women, a trio of foxes, an arachne, a dragon, two succubi and even an elf. Then, in the centre of this smoothly carved picture, a handsome man sat on a throne of blood.
The throne itself was not stone but rubies, pure, blood rubies, just like the ocean blue sapphires that made his eyes.
“Open.” (Demonic)
Serena glanced at Lumina, who passionately stared at the image of Asmodeus, his figure identical to when they married. He chose this outfit, pose and style as a present to his wives, although he never knew there was a secret training hall beneath the empress’s palace.
“By the way, Lumina. How are the Valkyrie Brigade?”
Her question came with the hiss of the door, which opened to the sides, revealing a massive expanse beneath the ground with dozens of pillars at least five metres thick holding the entire thing up.
In the centre of the room was a large elevated arena. To the left, hundreds of training dummies made of a black material shimmered under the illumination of the thousands of mana-stones buried into the walls.
To the right, various training equipment and weapons lay hooked, hanging and prepared.
It wasn’t that Asmodeus didn’t know of this place; of course, he did. But he let his wife have some fun and knew that if he asked. Serena would tell him everything when she was ready.
That was their level of trust.
“We’ve managed to train fifteen thousand to the Rank One so far, with the intense training and diet of monster meat and monthly doses of darling’s blood.”
“Good, let them train in this place from now on. After hearing the report from Velvet, it seems that those Arbiters aren’t just targeting our husband. They will likely hit here first, or try to divert his attention, and we cannot remain weak, pathetic vases!”
Serena’s hand lifted, and a faint silver light shimmered before gathering behind her back, hovering above her in the shape of a crescent moon.
“Sister, this power… It’s so amazing.”
Lumina’s body twinkled with silver light as she clenched all eight fists.
“Really?” Serena’s lips curled into a beautiful smile as she fluttered her long lashes at Lumina, curious and delighted. “This power is something even darling doesn’t know about yet~ I wanted to create an army of little demigods for him first.”
“Fufu, everyone knows how much you adore him. Though, how did your previous power manage to become this?” Lumina smiled back at the charming fox, who sometimes acted like a young woman who had just turned twenty.
The goddess of the moon stepped forward with light, ethereal steps. Each one caused a fluttering ripple in the air, like walking on water.
“I don’t know~ Hehe.” Behind her, the moon gradually grew from a crescent into a half moon; the amount of sparkling dust which wrapped Lumina almost tripled. “It just happened when we decided to reach the next stage together.”
‘It’s a little tiring to use it this much though…’
Lumina, oblivious to Serena’s exhaustion, clenched her fists with a smile, “I feel almost twice as powerful, like there’s a huge amount of energy flowing through my veins!”
‘She’s adorable sometimes.’
Serena’s power didn’t affect her; thus, she could only feel the slight tingle when each of the sparkling lights floated into another person. ‘I guess this is the power that manifested from me begging to be of use to support him.’
The reason she didn’t speak to Asmodeus about her powers wasn’t just to surprise him, but she had not learned the limits or best usage yet. It could empower allies within a specific range and amount, with her maximum currently being five hundred.
However, the most significant benefit was something she learned when using it on the children during their lessons.
‘To think, this power could improve their learning, training and overall growth. The more of these little sparkling stars that enter their body, the more benefit they gain.’
Meanwhile, Lumina dashed towards the training dummies, her feet tapped the floor, sending her flying into the air, as she grasped all eight rapiers.
“Well, this is good enough. It helped Lumina find a weapon that she enjoyed using.”
De-De-De-Deng!
Lumina landed with a flurry of thrusts, each arm relentlessly stabbed 0.1 seconds after the previous, creating a flowing ten strike killing blow, which tore at least fifteen inches through the black mineral’s chest area.
The black stone smoked for a few seconds before a low cracking sound.
A moment later, the stone repaired itself into a pristine shape.
“These training dolls are so good!” Lumina chirped, her muscles bulging as a thin layer of white liquid coated her entire body. The moment the liquid fully enveloped her, it immediately set into a solid white exoskeleton.
Serena sat on a small bench, her legs crossed and leaned on her palm with a smile.
Then she whispered with a determined glint in her eyes.
“Soon, we won’t just be a weakness, husband.”
