Capítulo 721: Approaching Hansberg Under a Watchful Eye

“Dad, Dad! There was this ugly little guy, he tried to kill me!” Vivi babbled and made vibrant stories about the monsters and things she found in the cave. She sat on Asmodeus’s lap. She took out a shiny rock, several coloured pebbles and stones. “Look!” Her eyes and skin sparkled in the sunlight as she held up an ocean-blue stone.

“It looks like dad’s eyes! Ehehe.”

“Oh, but it looks pretty like your skin, and horn too.”

“Hehe~”

Asmodeus ruffled her silky hair with his palm.

He couldn’t help but smile at her excitement, reminded of how he felt when first coming to this world and fighting goblins in a cave. The goblins and little men that Vivi mentioned were actually much stronger than the ones he fought.

‘This dungeon and area is known for the blue-skinned hobgoblins… a mortal threat of level 40-50… this little girl is pretty strong.’

She spoke about their struggle while narrating the various fights. “Grandpa Logan’s crossbow went Dada! Bhoom! And the big bad guy exploded into mush!” After he allowed her to call him dad and showed no aversion, the little oni became more open and brightened like a blooming flower.

‘How is she so energetic?’

The dungeon sounded quite eventful, with many fights and Vivi showing the “cool” new daggers that Nerim gave her.

However, the rest of them looked exhausted, and reaching Hansberg became more of a dream as they would surely delay leaving for another night. Asmodeus closed his eyes while stroking Vivi’s back, calmly digesting her chirping stories and words with a smile.

“Dad, and then…”

“We found a strange… but it was slimy! Eeek!”

“Grandpa wanted to eat it…”

“….Zzz.”

Suddenly, a warm weight pressed against his chest.

When Asmodeus glanced at Vivi, she leaned against his abs with her head tilted to the side and gripped either side of his loose kimono with her tiny fingers.

Not long after, soft snores filled the entire camp, causing the others with tired faces to grimace and chuckle. The little girl clearly carried their exhausted bodies this far; even Nerim looked pale.

“You seem…” Nerim paused for a moment while rubbing her forehead. She then opened her eyes and examined Asmodeus. With a huff, she narrowed her pretty eyes into small slits and nodded to herself. “Different.”

“Different?”

Asmodeus couldn’t tell because he’d only just finished fighting, so the excitement of being with Lumina and Serena lingered in his bones. But for the others, their eyes felt soothed and calm just looking at him.

“Mm, handsome.” She smiled, grabbing a makeshift cup made of a coconut filled with fruit punch and dropped to the floor beside him with a slight thud. “Oh? *Sniff* You smell really good, too. What did you do while alone?”

Nerim leaned against him and sipped the bright pink juice with floating coconut, various berries from the surrounding trees and ice cubes.

“Nothing much, I managed to realise something. I guess?” He couldn’t quite put into words how he felt; it was as if everything became clearer. His senses became so refined and precise that he could smell things, then separate them in his mind.

He could smell the faint hint of Nerim’s sweat, the slight salty odour of the mucous created by her gills, the sweet scent of earth that clung to her feet, and finally the fruity aroma that now mixed with the hot breath blowing against his cheek.

With a smile, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her close. Asmodeus then filled her with divine aura, letting it gradually seep out of his body and into her exhausted limbs and overworked muscles.

“Hmm~ but you really do seem different.” Her voice became muffled as she blew bubbles into the coconut punch, with a hidden smile.

‘Let’s ignore her hand stroking my muscles.’

Nerim gained this habit not long after she became blessed by the siren; she liked to touch his chest or pinch his abs. It reminded him of Erika and Velvet, so Asmodeus accepted the situation with a vague smile.

“Ahem, Lad.”

Of course, he wouldn’t ignore his old friend and the others.

“Logan, you look worse for wear, my brother. How was it?” Asmodeus glanced down at Nerim, whose head bobbed a few times before gradually closing her eyes. He took the punch away from her drooping hand and supported her chin with his hand.

“Well.” The old man glanced at the couple, with Vivi, and his little beard twitched. “This wee Lass is full of energy.” He reached out, stroking Vivi’s head, then took out a haunch of dried meat and plopped down on the spot. “But it was tiring, I haven’t pushed these old bones in so long.”

‘Hm?’

“Was the dungeon that difficult?”

While Asmodeus couldn’t enter it, he thought it might be a relatively low-level dungeon because of this. He could enter the Iron Maw after all. But listening to the old man now, he considered the possibility it wasn’t.

“No, no Ack no!” Chewing on the meat, Logan showed a rowdy expression while grinning.

“This lass insisted that she wanted to finish the dungeon quickly, and it was just about easy enough to fulfil her wishes. Ack, ahem!”

“But?” Asmodeus handed some water to the dwarf to help him clear his throat.

“Thanks, Lad.” Logan guzzled the water, half of it leaking down his cheeks and soaking his beard, the look of bliss on his old, wrinkled face. “Burp! Well, at first it was simple. But for a low-level dungeon, it was too sneaky, with traps, dead ends, and monster nests!”

From Vivi’s descriptions and now the old man’s complaints, Asmodeus could breathe a sigh of relief while stroking Nerim’s smooth cheek.

“Well, old man, you just need more cardio.”

“Cardio! Peh! What is that? Who is that! This old dwarf needs only his hammer and pick!”

To these complaints in the back, both Zahir and Thorim gave bitter looks to each other, before sitting to eat their soup and bread. Zahir didn’t eat many types of meat, so it was interesting to see that he ate the monster meat soup.

“Hm?” Zahir noticed Asmodeus’s gaze and smiled before nodding.

He was a polite boy, and Asmodeus grew to like how he kept his focus and calm during battles. At first, he only remained in the party for Nerim and a little for the old man. Dwarves would be a great help in his empire, so he thought getting to know one would help with recruiting more in the future.

‘They’re all arrogant, drunk old men after all!’

Soon, the meals and everyone’s energy dimmed as the sun drooped over the opposite horizon, and a pale blue light enveloped their camp. Asmodeus carried the girls and then the sleeping old man to the arranged tents, and finally, he prepared a barrier.

A minor barrier using a magic item, something all adventurers use as a decoy, then he created a blood wall, a mana barrier and finally a dome of divine aura that would last exactly six hours. But the people inside would enjoy a rest of at least twelve hours thanks to his Time domain.

‘This should help them recover from the fatigue.’

Asmodeus stepped out of the barrier and glanced towards the east with a curious expression. He wondered if he could find Brando, or at least his wife, this time.

The auction would start in fifteen days, but that also meant that his brother and his men would suffer for that many more days.

‘Should I just bust in there now, and destroy everything?’

Bzzt!

A sudden tingle shot down his spine, and bumps suddenly filled the surface of his skin as if warning him. This nostalgic feeling was his danger sense; it was partially why he’d been taking things slowly since the Iron Maw.

When he thought of rushing to clear the auction house in Francel, or when he considered giving up or leaving the party of Nerim, Thorim and Logan earlier.

This strange tingle and feeling of danger stopped him.

‘What is there in the east which causes me to feel such danger?’

There were only a few things that Asmodeus still considered dangerous to him, such as the massive creature in the depths of the ocean—the Arbiters whom he met on the day of his wedding and coronation.

Especially Ein, the female Arbiter, appeared weaker at first.

“But now I know the difference and method of growing stronger; her divine art is dangerous.”

Time versus gravity, and he could vaguely sense her domain carried a secondary element like his devouring. So he would not rush or endanger the lives of his party or wives again, unless he had enough confidence to destroy them and the creator.

He would take things one step at a time.

“Let’s go see those foolish women waiting for me. I am in the mood for a big fight!”

With a smile on his lips, he snapped his fingers.

The once demanding spell of teleportation no longer carried the same burden; if he wanted to use this spell, he could do so instantly. A flash of purple shone in the night sky, and within two seconds, Asmodeus was gone.

.

Meanwhile, in the pristine white palace, a woman wrapped in a pure white exoskeletal armour observed something with a faint grin.

“So you won’t rush to save them, interesting.”

Ein’s eyes peeked at the image of Asmodeus through a purple sheet of energy that crackled with magic and shone above a golden globe.

“Since you defeated Funf’s illusion, then next time we’ll have to send someone stronger.”

She leaned back with a creak.

The walls carried no dust, dirt or even condensation as she sighed. Something wasn’t right from the moment she met this strange demon. Her mind couldn’t focus, and she found herself seeking the man out.

If not for the barrier keeping the strongest Arbiters in the divine realm, she might have copied Funf and tried to meet him.

Whether for a battle or something else, Ein didn’t understand herself.
