Chapter 1606: The New Host and The Failed Strike

When the Bloody Woman had first merged with Beatrix’s body, her power was weak because she had been disconnected from Raze’s body for a prolonged period. While with Raze, the Bloody Woman existed as a separate, albeit suppressed, entity. Beatrix, however, always knew the entity had to be somewhere inside her, even though she couldn’t directly communicate with the Bloody Woman as Raze was able to.

According to Raze, he had assumed that their two identities had fully merged over time, but Beatrix had always harbored a growing fear: that the other personality, or other being, was simply waiting somewhere inside her mind. It was because of this fear that she had figured out the technique of making her own mind completely empty, a meditative state to allow the Bloody Woman to surface and take control. It had worked the last time she was fighting with the Cerebus Guild members, and she thought it would work again to get her out of the impossible fight.

Yet, she never wanted to use it openly or freely. She much rather would have liked to learn how to incorporate and utilize its formidable powers herself, without just relying on a complete handover, because she was deeply afraid. She was afraid that one day, she might not come back. What if one day, whatever it was that was controlling her would continue to control her indefinitely?

Without realizing the profound change until it was too late, it seemed her worst fear had finally come true. Beatrix’s usually light-colored hair was now mostly streaked with vibrant, solid red. And the blood aura that previously covered the Bloody Woman’s hands only during a power surge was now constantly present around her new hands, solidified as visual, crackling Qi.

“For a long time, I had been looking for a body that I could use,” the Bloody Woman mused, examining her new form. “And now it looks like I finally have one.” She remembered her initial target. “I originally wanted to use the person who calls himself the Dark Magus; his body seemed quite strong, but this woman’s body is good enough as well.”

The Bloody Woman paused, considering the implications of her new freedom. “But what should I do now? Should I go on a rampage, simply destroying everything? And what will he do if he knows I have taken over this woman’s body? Will he try and get rid of me?”

For a moment, the Bloody Woman wondered if she could fake being Beatrix based on what she had observed of her host, but reviewing Beatrix’s recent actions made her feel genuinely sick to her stomach. “Our personalities are far too different from one another,” she concluded, discarding the idea instantly. “I guess I’m just going to have to go with the flow.” She then sensed something nearby. “Besides, I feel something that feels intensely familiar, yet that shouldn’t be here in this place…”

Raze and Gizin stood at a tense, lethal standoff, looking toward each other across the devastated ground. Every time Raze looked at Gizin’s face, the cruel lines and arrogant sneer reminded him vividly of his wife, Sabrina’s, ultimate fate, and he didn’t know how much longer he could just stand there and do nothing but seethe.

“I’ll kill you for everyone’s sake!” Raze shouted, unable to contain his rage and grief any longer.

Lightning instantly electrified from his feet, and then with an explosive burst of movement, he was gone. He didn’t move in a straight line; instead, Raze was zigzagging violently across the destroyed plaza, swinging his sword and performing incredibly quick slashes mixed with bursts of Wind Magic and powerful Qi.

As the lightning-fast attacks went to hit Gizin, a shimmering, golden barrier immediately appeared around him. The barrier pulsed sharply each time an attack hit, but Raze’s high-speed strikes simply weren’t getting through the defense.

Eight-star level Dark Magic, combined with powerful Qi, still isn’t enough! Raze thought, momentarily shocked. But I had to expect something at least like this from Gizin!

What truly irritated him was Gizin’s reaction. The Grand Magus remained utterly calm, still holding his stick, looking confident enough to have deliberately descended here to fight Raze head-on. This wasn’t the tentative, cautious Gizin he used to know, and there had to be a significant level of truth to what Gizin had said before, about how he had unlocked power that not even the other Grand Magus knew about.

Gizin finally moved. He abruptly tuned around, and when he did, he slammed his walking stick firmly into the ground. Out from the sphere of defense surrounding him, several powerful golden beams of energy shot out.

The attack was identical to the one used by the other masked beings, the golden energy shining at impossibly fast rates. Raze quickly had to utilize his own Dark Magic to perform the Dusk Wing Formation. Using the technique, a black, opaque wing materialized out from his back, and he was able to move even faster than before.

A brilliant lightning trail was left behind him as he continued to weave and dodge the relentless golden hits. He instantly started to gather massive amounts of Qi and Dark Magic into his sword, readying a devastating counter-attack.

Then, with another burst of speed, Raze launched right toward Gizin. He decided to use the single move that was meant to break down any type of defense: the Void Pulse. He thrust his sword forward, performing the Void Pulse, his blade propelled by immense amounts of focused Dark Magic and crackling Lightning Magic trailing behind him.

However, Gizin simply lifted up his walking stick, pointed it forward, and a massive blast of concentrated Golden Energy surged out, meeting Raze’s attack head-on.

The two explosive energies collided violently. Raze immediately felt his feet moving backward, skidding against the concrete as his attack was forcibly pushed back. He was thrown off balance and tumbled across the floor, crashing to a halt.

“What the… I lost when it came to sheer power?” Raze stammered as he quickly got up from the floor, his sword arm trembling slightly. “Even when combining my Dark Magic and Qi… how can that possibly be?”
