Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1603
Chapter 1603: The Extraction Begins
The enormous beam of golden energy from Gizin’s descent was noticed everywhere in the Underside. Seeing this overwhelming display of power, the Cerebus members who were locked in combat against the Dark Guild felt a significant surge of confidence. The various minor Guilds and hired mercenaries also felt a measure of relief. They knew they had to perform their jobs as best they could for the large sums of money they were being paid, but they were also well aware of the difficulty of the task, fighting the Dark Magus.
Now that a Grand Magus was personally here, surely their job would be easy, right?
However, Gizin was stuck up against the Dark Magus, an opponent not easily defeated or bypassed. Therefore, the Grand Magus wasn’t the immediate, direct help they might have expected, but his presence was having a profound effect in other, more subtle ways.
For one, now that Raze was completely focused on Gizin, he was no longer going around dealing with the tricky Guild Leaders and the elite Cerebus members. These powerful fighters were now free to join the ongoing battles in several other areas, and the resistance that the Underside had been able to withstand for some time now was finally beginning to crumble under the relentless pushback.
The overall feeling of the conflict had shifted dramatically. It went from a tense, almost fair fight to a desperate, chaotic struggle where the Underside was doing whatever it could to simply survive the onslaught. The Underside had already suffered terrible losses, and they knew that simply fighting openly was not going to result in an easy win for them.
They had to resort to tactics: stalling for time, hiding their numbers, and, most importantly, ensuring that the attacking mages did not discover the Shelters.
So, even while hiding, groups of citizens would launch a quick, harassing attack. Right after launching their spell or strike, they would quickly scurry away to specific, pre-determined locations. The attackers were none the wiser as to what was happening because they never once imagined that there would even be reinforced shelters in the Underside in the first place.
From those who had seen and could perceive what was taking place, including the powerful warriors from Pagna, the pressure was immense. They could all witness the colossal exchange of energy and feel the power radiating from Raze and Gizin.
Safa, who was sitting down and still frantically trying to cultivate the defeated Cerebus Mage’s Light Magic into her own core, felt the shift acutely.
I can feel the mass amount of energy, she thought, pushing her focus deeper. Raze must be fighting with the Grand Magus right now, and I can hear the cries of pain all around me. I need to speed this up, otherwise, he could be in serious trouble.
It wasn’t just Safa having this thought. Beatrix, who was fighting in the sewage river, Liam, who was battling on a large pile of rubble, and lastly, Dame as well, all of them shared the same urgent, terrifying thought: they needed to be there for Raze, and they needed to be at full power.
“ARGHH!” Dame roared, throwing an almighty electrified fist that sent his Masked Man opponent tumbling hard onto the ground.
The golden energy blasted quickly up from below the downed Cerebus member, pushing against Dame’s body for a long moment until he managed to spread his arms out and forcibly disperse the retaliatory attack.
Dame instantly moved, planting his feet back on the ground, and threw another massive fist, pounding it right into the Masked Man’s side as he rose.
This time, as he hit him, Dame didn’t retreat. He held onto him with his arms, his multi-limbed form wrapping around the smaller man.
“You have already tried this! We have been fighting for some time now, you should know it doesn’t work!” the Masked Man declared, his voice muffled by the assault.
The man’s body instantly glowed with golden energy and blasted right into Dame’s stomach at point-blank range.
However, Dame, with his multiple arms, continued to hold on, absorbing the blow and continuing to throw punches at the Masked Man’s core.
My attacks are landing, but he’s right, Dame noted with rising frustration. I’m getting more tired as the fight goes on. I’m using more energy to maintain my defense. Yet he seems to be getting better at fighting, and is even using his strength more efficiently after getting hit.
Dame quickly shoved the man to the side with his powerful arms, and the golden energy blast that had been charging was redirected harmlessly toward another dilapidated building.
Dame was still physically holding onto him at this point and pulled down hard, throwing the Masked Man violently to the floor again. The good news was that Dame’s Iron Hard Lightning Body was holding up, and he wasn’t hurt yet.
With a final move, he decided to pin the man down completely. Dame used all of his arms to grab and secure the Masked Man, making sure not a single part of his opponent’s body could move.
“You think that can stop me!” the pinned man grunted. Even his head lit up with golden energy and let out a large energy blast, hitting Dame directly on the head. But Dame stubbornly continued to hold on, his iron muscles straining, and then eventually forced the pinned man’s head to the side to let the beam of energy fire harmlessly into the air.
Dame lifted the man up off the ground and punched his body hard, sending him crashing into the nearest standing wall.
Then, slowly, the Masked Man started to walk out of the wreckage, but he felt something strange as he touched the side of his body. His hand came away strangely inert.
“What’s wrong?” Dame challenged, taking a step forward, his eyes burning with intense lightning energy. “You can’t heal that side anymore? Let me just tell you this: you are fighting against the wrong opponent.”
Dame focused his formidable will, his hands crackling with raw power. “I might not be as good as Raze when it comes to the full extraction technique, but it is something I can do as well. So, I’m going to take every last bit of your power and make it my own.”
