Chapter 788: Her memories will reset.
The men got stationed outside. They were standing for a while when he heard a car pulling up at a distance. They all at once became alert. Turning to look, they waited until they saw a pair of stylish heels stepping out of the car, and then the woman emerged from it in all her full height.
As she walked in their direction, one of them came to block their path.
“Where are you going, woman? You can’t casually walk in.”
“I can and I will,” the woman said, and then, simply pushing past him, she walked in as if she owned it.
The men exchanged glances before following her inside.
Catrin was standing close to Arwen’s bed. When she heard the sharp sound of heels clicking against the floor, she turned to look with a frown.
“I hope I haven’t appeared too late,” the woman said, entering, and looking at her, Catrin’s frown only deepened as though she didn’t quite like her presence there.
“I told you, you didn’t have to come here,” she said, walking in her direction with clear displeasure on her face. “I didn’t need you here.”
Selene paused in her steps and took off her glasses before replying with an arrogant smirk. “But I needed to be here to witness it all with my own eyes. After all, we are together in this. How could I just leave you here alone to manage everything?”
Catrin stared at her with quiet scrutiny before she gestured to the men who followed her out. She didn’t know much about Selene, except that she had reached out right when she needed her —needed the way to get Arwen back to her. “How do you know Arwen? And what’s your benefit in all this?”
Selene’s brows quirked a little as though she was amused that the woman finally asked her this. Otherwise, since the day she called to offer her help, she never cared about anything else other than having her daughter back.
“My benefit?” Selene repeated with a casual shrug. “Is that even important when you are so close to having yours?” Her gaze darted to look at the bed. “Your daughter is already here, and soon you will have her back just the way you had wanted to have her. Under your control. You can reshape her just the way you like. Isn’t that great and already enough?”
“Just answer what I asked you,” Catrin’s brows furrowed as suddenly she felt like she might have stepped into something she should have considered. “What is your deal in this? What do you want?”
“I just want what you have been wanting, Ms. Davies.” Selene’s words came almost immediately, without any gap of even a second. “I want her to return to your side. And trust me, I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
She didn’t lie. That’s all that Selene wanted. Arwen to move out of her way on her own —in a way she doesn’t have to carry the blame. As long as it won’t be because of her, Aiden wouldn’t hate her. And with Arwen gone, she would finally be able to have him all for herself.
Catrin wasn’t satisfied with her answer. But before she could speak, someone else took her attention. She turned to look only to see a man entering in a white doctor’s robe.
“Doctor, you are here. Did you bring what I asked you?”
Selene turned to look at him, only to offer him a mere glance. The doctor also turned to look at her, but except for giving a small nod of greeting, he didn’t say anything more.
Instead, he turned to Catrin and replied, “Yes, I got the drug. It was difficult but available on the black market.”
“That’s great. Then let’s not delay it further. Arwen is right here,” Catrin said, slightly turning towards the bed where Arwen was still lying unconscious. “You can start the procedure.”
The doctor glanced the way and his brows slightly tugged together in hesitation. He didn’t move immediately; instead, looking back at Catrin, he said, “Before I start the procedure, there is something that I want to discuss with you.”
Catrin didn’t want to waste another moment. But when she saw the doctor’s expression, she nodded and walked down towards him. “What is it?” she asked.
The doctor paused for a moment before he finally said, “I would ask you to reconsider this decision again. This procedure isn’t very suitable for Ms. Arwen. It might affect her in a way that cannot be undone.”
“What do you mean?” Catrin asked with a frown.
The doctor took out the drug he brought with him and then explained, “The drug you asked me to bring is Dr. Calvin’s unfinished research. We don’t know its true potential, nor do we have its exact cure. You have previously made her take it, and we are still not sure how it affected her system. If her system rejects it, the situation will turn quite dangerous for her. She might suffer a brain haemorrhage or may lose her right sense for her entire life.”
Catrin stiffened at that for a moment. She knew the drug was dangerous. But she was never aware of what extent. Did she really wrong her when she used it on her back then?
Guilt crept up her heart, and she staggered a step back. No, if this was dangerous, she wasn’t going to take a chance on her daughter’s life. Arwen was important to her.
Maybe her thoughts were too obvious on her face. When Selene saw it, she frowned. “Don’t tell me you are going to step back now?” she asked, and Catrin glanced at her as though she could comprehend.
“She is my daughter. I can’t risk her life. She is important to me —”
“So, you are saying you already gave up on it because you think this plan would fail. Did you forget what it will bring you if it turns out to be a success?” Selene asked, cutting her off without letting her ponder more on the reasons that could make her reject the idea. “You can’t bear to risk her life now, but can you see her hating you for the entire life. You are her mother. Will you be able to bear to see her treat you like you are not for the rest of your life?”
Catrin paused for a moment. She couldn’t bring herself to think. Arwen was her only daughter … her only child. How could she be able to live without her?
“Ms. Davies,” Selene began, her voice carrying confidence as though she knew her words were working. “Even if this is risky, the reward that comes after is worth taking the risk for. After all, if her body doesn’t rest the drug straight away, she will forget it all. Her memories will reset, and you can make up for everything you are feeling guilty of now. You could be the mother you realized you have never been to her.”
Catrin thought again, and suddenly, what Selene said started feeling right. As long as Arwen forget it all, she will be able to make up for everything she did wrong to her. She would become the mother she always wanted, and then this small pain wouldn’t matter.
“So, are you still thinking of backing away from the idea?” Selene asked, a little skeptical.
Catrin glanced at her and then shook her head. “No, you are right. All her life, if Arwen craved for something, it was my love. I didn’t understand it first, but now, I want to give her the love and understanding she had always wanted. And for that, she must forget it all. Forget all her complaints. Forget all her resentments. So …”
She paused only to turn to the doctor to say, “I have reconsidered it all over. I would still want to go ahead with the procedure. Doctor, please go ahead.”
The doctor hesitated. But since he had already told her what the risk was, he had nothing else to say. Nodding, he could only agree. “Fine, if that’s what you have decided, I will proceed with it. I will go make the arrangements.”
With that said, he turned around and walked away.

Meanwhile, Reese was in his clinic when his phone rang on the desk. He shifted his gaze and glanced at it before reaching to grab it to answer.
Accepting the call, he spoke through the line, “Yes?”
“Dr Calvin,” the person on the other end of the call spoke through the line, his voice carrying a slight urgency. “Someone had bought Senior Dr. Calvin’s drug from the black market.”
Reese frowned. “How did the drug reach the black market? Hadn’t I asked you to keep it safe and out of the reach of the people?”
The man didn’t dare respond. Reese pinched the space between his brows and then slowly asked, “Who bought it?”
“We are not sure, but the vial was shipped to Cralens. It was delivered early in the morning today.”
Reese paused, his expression shifting to one of recognition. He didn’t stay on the call. Disconnecting it straight away, he turned to dial Arwen’s number.
However, the call never got connected. It beeped before getting disconnect. He couldn’t sit still anymore. Getting up from his chair, he at once charged out as though he knew where exactly he had to go.
