Chapter 777: It’s your chance.

Aiden’s fingers clenched around his phone as he listened to the voice on the other end. His expression hardened, the warmth in her eyes fading into something heavy and grave. He didn’t say a word —just ended the call slowly and turned to Arwen.

The hesitation in his gaze was enough to make Arwen’s heart lurch. An ominous chill crept up in her nerves, and she instinctively gripped the sheets in her hands, as if grounding herself against a storm she could already sense brewing.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, her voice trembling slightly despite her effort to stay and sound calm. “Why are you looking like that? Everything is fine, right?”

“Moon,” Aiden began slowly, his tone carrying both gentleness and gravity. “You need to stay strong. You can’t fall apart … not at this moment. Granna always wanted to see you strong. She —”

“S-she … she has left us?” Her voice dropped to a fragile whisper, as though she was terrified of the answer.

Aiden didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. His silence was louder than any confirmation.

Arwen’s breath hitched as the realization struck. Her eyes stung, and then, like a dam breaking, tears rolled down her cheeks in hot, uncontrollable streams. She closed her eyes, letting the pain of loss crash over her completely.

A hollow ache settled deep within her chest —a regret. A kind she knew she might never be able to let go of.

The last time she saw her Granna alive, she hadn’t hugged her. She hadn’t whispered words of love or gratitude. She hadn’t told her how lucky she was to have her unwavering support all these years. Instead, she had walked away in anger, hurt and confusion … arguing over the past while the woman who loved her the most lay there, fighting her own silent battle.

Why did she have to make it so difficult for her Granna in her final moments?

Her shoulders shook as sobs tore through her, raw and heart-wrenching. Aiden stepped forward and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly against his chest. She didn’t resist.

She buried her face into him, clinging as if he were the only thing keeping her from collapsing.

“Have I been too cruel to her?” she asked in between her sobs. She knew she had been, but some part of her desperately wanted someone to tell her that she wasn’t.

Aiden’s fingers gently threaded through her hair, soothing her. “You can never be cruel to anyone, Moon. Don’t blame yourself. You reacted in the most kindest way you could in that moment.”

“But she was already suffering like that. She didn’t deserve to hear me hating her during her last moments. And … I … I didn’t even hate her.” She tilted her head to glance at him, her eyes brimming with tears and sadness. “If anything, I only loved her. Loved her for taking me when my mother didn’t care enough to.”

“Do you think she didn’t know?” Aiden asked softly, slowly moving his hands to wipe away her tears. “You wear your heart in your eyes, Moon. If you love someone, just one look and they can tell. Granna could too. She knew you didn’t hate her. She knew you were just upset with her. And she also understood why. So, don’t think that you hurt her, because you didn’t.”

“Then why did she still leave me?” she whispered brokenly, her voice trembling as fresh tears fell. “Why didn’t she let me have another chance to visit her so that I could tell her that I love her and that I will miss her forever and ever? Why didn’t she give me the chance to hug her one last time? Why?”

Aiden had no answer to that. But he didn’t let her face it alone. He simply held her, steady and quiet, giving her a safe place to shatter.

Seconds became minutes, and after a while, even that count was lost. Aiden didn’t know how long had passed, nor did he care. Only when he felt Arwen’s sobs began to ease did he speak.

“Granna is waiting for us,” he said, his voice low and grounding. “We need to visit her and give her the proper farewell. Just like you had her, she only had you, too. She deserves your goodbye, Moon.”

Arwen heard him but didn’t respond immediately. She just remained in his arms for a little longer, letting her heart settle amid the storm. Finally, she nodded faintly, her voice hoarse.

“Let’s go,” she whispered, before pulling away to wipe her tears. “I don’t want Granna to wait for me any longer.” Her voice regained the strength that she had felt devoid of a few seconds ago.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Catrin was also informed about Brenda’s demise. However, there was no expression of loss on her face. Instead, her eyes sparkled when she stood in front of the mirror, looking at herself.

“It’s your chance, Catrin,” she muttered to herself. “Chance to turn everything back to your favour. To bring your daughter back to your side. With her Granna gone, you just have to make her realize how lonely she would become in this world.”

When Lia heard her, she couldn’t believe it. How could a daughter be so insensitive to her own mother’s demise?

“Prepare the car, Lia,” Catrin ordered, looking at her secretary through the mirror. “We will be heading to East Serenity Residence now.”

Lia quietly nodded. And then she moved away to make the call.

At the same time, in Quinn Residence, even Idris received the call. He shot up to his feet, his brows furrowing. Since he wasn’t well informed about Brenda’s health, the news came as a shock to him.

He looked at Robin and quickly asked him to prepare the car. Although his relationship with Catrin had already ended, Brenda was still a mother figure to him, who had guided him through the most difficult part of his life. There is no way he would let his broken marriage affect the bond he shared with the old lady.
