Chapter 725: Burning the bridges.

Caden looked exhausted. He had no plans of rushing here like this. He came only because he couldn’t bear it any longer.

He took the flight to Carlens, determined to find a way to meet Aiden and demand that he stops whatever he was up to. But the moment he arrived, he realized something was gravely wrong.

Aiden was not just aiming at their company. No —he was onto something darker, deeper. The fact that Selene was being held here, tied in such a filthy, suffocating place, only proved his suspicions.

“Your daughter might give you a better explanation, Mr. Martin? Why not give it a try?” Aiden simply said, gesturing Caden to go ahead and understand the reason behind it all if he could.

Tariq, at this moment, moved —only to bring a chair for Aiden to sit.

Although it was merely a simple wooden chair — meant for the men to rest casually, when Aiden claimed it, its aura completely changed. It no longer looked like a mere chair, but a throne of Hades sent straight from the underworld.

Caden stared at him, clearly displeased by his arrogant attitude. His blatant disrespect was simply piercing his aged pride. He never faced any humiliation up till date, and even today, he never expected Aiden to treat him like this.

He turned to look at his daughter and asked with furrowed brows. “Selene, will you tell me what’s happening here? Why are you tied here like this? And why had Aiden been targeting our family to such grave losses?”

“Dad, it’s all because of that one woman. Arwen,” Selene cried, unable to hold back anymore. She wanted to tell her father everything so that he would go avenge her. “Since she had appeared in Aiden’s life, she had bewitched him. It’s all because of her that Aiden is acting this way. He had even forgotten the bond and ties our family had shared for ages. He —”

Aiden gave a glance at Tariq, who at once understood the order.

Moving, he stepped forward, and without any warning, raised his hand and slapped across Selene’s face once more, shutting her back to silence.

Selene was taken aback. Even Caden was stunned. He didn’t see that coming —not in his presence at least.

“Dad!” Selene cried.

And feeling the pain of her daughter, Mr. Martin glared at Tariq, ready to lunge forward and punish him for what he had done. “How dare you? You basta*d —”

However, before he could even finish, Aiden’s cold voice cut him off. “Hold back, if you don’t want to regret Mr. Martin?”

Caden paused and turned to glare at Aiden, who stared back without flinching under his glare.

“Aiden!” he called his name, fuming in anger. “How dare you let your man treat Selene like that under your watch?”

Aiden looked at him coolly, responding evenly, “She asked for it.”

“How could you say that, Aiden?” Selene cried, not believing that Aiden could be this cruel to her. He allowed another man to slap her in front of so many people.

Shouldn’t he be protecting her?

“Didn’t I tell you not to touch my bottom line, Selene?” Aiden asked, without any trace of warmth in his gaze. “Yet not just once but again and again you did the same thing. What made you think you could challenge my patience and still escape?”

“Aiden, I —” Tears brimmed in her eyes, hoping that it would make some difference. However, Aiden didn’t seem to care at all. And his indifference only broke her further. “This is all because of that bi*ch. That Arwen. She —”

Slap!

Before she could even finish, another tight slap was served on the other side of her face, making it go burning red.

“Ah!” she winced, painfully. She wanted to cover her face and soothe the sting. But with her hands tied, she had no way to.

“Aiden, how dare you?” Caden snarled.

However, Aiden paid no heed to him. He simply looked at Selene and sneered, “What made you think you could casually take her name like that?”

Selene looked at him, her eyes tearing up and her jaw clenched as if not yet ready to give up. “Aiden, how could you treat me like this?”

“Trust me, it can even get worse after what you did?” his words dripped with cruelty that made Selene shiver, even though she didn’t want to.

Caden couldn’t take being humiliated like this anymore. Breaking free from the clasps for men, he stepped a step forward. “You have gone too far, Aiden,” he said, his voice low and tight. “Who do you think you are to treat us like this? And that too just for a woman?”

Aiden’s expression hardened the moment he heard him. His fists clenched, “The woman you mentioned so casually is my wife, Mr. Martin. And for her, I can wreak havoc in the entire world. Few lives like yours don’t even matter.”

“You —” Caden fumed, not believing a man half his age could speak to him like that.

However, he also realized it was not some average man. He was Aiden Winslow, the unrivalled heir of the Winslow family.

“Fine, I accept that Selene might have done a few things that made you treat her like this. But can you not give her a chance? She has been around you from a young age. You know, how childish she could be at times.”

“If she had been a child, she should have found herself the toys she could bear to handle. She shouldn’t have dared to touch what I have treated as sacred my entire life. Let her go —heh,” Aiden scoffed, continuing, “you are asking too much of mercy, Martin. I was never capable of generosity.”

Caden hadn’t expected him to refuse simply on his face. He frowned, clenching and unclenching his fingers. “Aiden, are you going to simply forsake our families’ ties and ages of friendship just like that? Even at the worst, your grandfather never thought of burning the bridges between the two families.”

Aiden looked up at him evenly, his eyes sharp and piercing. “Mr. Martin, you should see carefully. I am not my grandfather. Do you think I would even care about the two families?”
