Chapter 698: There is no need to dirty your hands.
Selene’s face darkened when, even after several seconds, she didn’t hear the man speaking. Losing her patience, she roared. “You called me to report, not to act deaf and dumb. Speak!”
“I-It’s Aiden Winslow,” the man hesitated, but then reported what he had discovered.
Selene’s knees at once gave way. She staggered a step back, hitting the edge of the bed with the back of her legs. “What did you say?” Her voice shook, disbelief written across her features.
Aiden.
No, he wouldn’t do that to her. He could be cruel to her. He treated her better than he treated anyone else. How could he …?
The man cleared his throat as though afraid of her reaction. “Yes, young miss. It was President Winslow. He made the brand remove you.”
“No,” Selene shook her head violently, refusing to accept it. Her heart thundered in her chest, a suffocating pressure spreading through her lungs. “No, he won’t do that. Did you look into it properly?”
“Yes, young miss. I have looked into it properly. He —”
“Shut up!” She snapped sharply. “You know nothing. You are useless.”
She hurled her phone onto the floor hard, shattering it into pieces. “Arhhhh!” the scream tore out of her throat, filled with hatred.
“Why? Why, Aiden?” She slumped onto the bed, clutching the sheets between her fingers until the threads nearly tore apart. “Why would you do that to me?”
“Ms. Selene, what happened?” Carla asked cautiously. “What did Mr. Winslow do?”
Selene’s eyes burned as she stared at the empty distance ahead, fury and despair swirling together. Her nails dug so deep into the fabric that her knuckles turned white. “He did that for Arwen. He did that for her. Arhhh!” She grabbed the pillow and flung it across the room, imagining it was Arwen’s face.
“I will make her disappear from the face of this world.” She almost said it as a vow, her determination strong in her eyes.
Only if Arwen disappeared would Aiden give up his obsession with her.
Selene rose to her feet, her breathing uneven, but her eyes sharp as blades. She paced the room, muttering to herself. “If she vanishes, Aiden will have no one else to turn to … he will see me again. He has to.”
Carla’s face paled, alarm flashing in her eyes. “Miss … what are you planning to do?”
Selene didn’t respond as if she hadn’t heard her. The old nanny quickly stepped closer and urged. “Please don’t do anything rash. Although that woman is nowhere comparable to you, both Old Master Winslow and Young Master Winslow adore her. They wouldn’t forgive any attempt against her lightly.”
“Are you trying to scare me, Carla?” Selene asked coldly, her gaze carrying a clear threat.
Carla immediately shook her head. “No, Ms. Selene. How can I ever dare? I am only reminding you —why step into danger when you can win the game with a simple trick?”
Selene’s brows drew together. She narrowed her eyes at the woman. “What do you mean?”
Carla exhaled, sensing a silver of relief that Selene was listening. “Miss, you don’t need to dirty your hands with anything that could backfire. Didn’t that woman say she would step away if you could prove you were the one Mr. Winslow always loved? Then why not prove it to her?”
Selene didn’t understand. But when she thought about what Carla said, she thought her worries weren’t wrong entirely. Both Aiden and Morgan like Arwen. If something happens to her, she might have to face the consequences.
Selene blinked, still unconvinced. “But how can I make her believe. She doesn’t seem to trust me or anything I say.”
Carla shook her head softly. “No, Miss. She already believes it more than you realize. If not, why else would she keep trying to prove Mr. Winslow cares more for her than for you? That is fear, Miss —fear that if you prove otherwise, she will have to leave with nothing.”
Selene stilled, her rage cooling into something sharper, more dangerous. “You mean … Arwen is already tricked?”
The old nanny nodded. “Yes. Her suspicions have only grown stronger things you made her notice. She might already believe that she is being just treated as your substitute —one that you could easily replace. Or else, why would she deliberately make her husband ignore you? Tell me, Miss —what kind of man would do that unless his wife strictly demanded it?”
Selene’s chest rose and fell, her earlier exasperation slowly dissipating into a dark satisfaction.
Yes, that should explain it all. She thought to herself. Otherwise, Aiden would treat her so cruelly.
A smile crept onto her lips, twisted and cold. “So, she is already insecure … already doubting. That means it won’t take much to push her over the edge.”
Carla nodded with certainty. “Exactly, Miss. You don’t need to act with force to get her out of your way. Just stick to your earlier plan, and she will already have to step away.”
“Yes, you are right,” Selene finally agreed. She brushed a lock of hair from her face, her eyes glinting. “I don’t need to dirty my hands.”

Meanwhile, on the other side —
The car finally pulled up to the alley. Since Arwen was lost in her own train of thought, she didn’t notice they had arrived until Alfred informed her.
“Madam, we are here.”
She looked out of the window and then subtly nodded. “Thank you, Alfred. You wait here. I will try to come soon.”
The driver nodded, and she stepped out of the car before walking into the building.
As she stepped in, for some reason, the palace seemed empty. Her brows furrowed when walking further in; she looked around at the desks.
No one was there.
She was about to pull out her phone when Alice stepped out from her office, calling out, “Queen Sister, you are here. I have been waiting for you.”
Arwen glanced in her direction and then asked, “You are alone here today? Where are others?”
“They would be back soon. They just went around the corner,” she informed, and Arwen nodded before asking.
“You said you dound out what I asked you to look for?”
