Capítulo 581: Hell on Earth [2]

The chaotic battle continued, and what felt like an hour was a mere fifteen minutes. Nikolai’s body carried dark, burn marks and faint scars from the fangs of a dog that tried to devour Alexei’s arm.

“Phew!”

Alexei held a massive hammer, while Vernan carried what seemed to be a pile bunker. The huge nail shot forward with a hiss of steam as he punched a dog that Alexei slammed to the ground.

Spurt!

Blood, flesh and organs sprayed into the air as the sharp nail penetrated the dog’s skull.

“Wow! This shit is so good!” Vernan slapped Alexei’s shoulder, the huge bear-man chuckling with a deep tone. What surprised Nikolai was that Vernan wasn’t in his bear transformation, but just a human form.

He looked handsome, with midnight skin and a shaved fade haircut.

“You two focus!”

“Yes, boss!”

“No problem, brother!”

Alexei and Vernan seemed to have hit it off together.

Not long after the first small gate closed, Vladimir and his blood knights sacrificed two of them as they went inside.

The monsters began to appear at twice the rate, but what Nikolai learned from the wounded Vladimir was that the strange pentagram shapes vanished one by one with each monster they killed inside the gate. To close it, they had to kill a giant bipedal humanoid monster with deformed claws and a projectile attack.

Vernan and Alexei appeared with Ryan on the behest of Leona, not long after, with more combat maids and the Knights of Volkov. The elite knights, who rarely appeared unless the clan was in danger.

‘Good!’

But what irritated Nikolai was that none of their allies would allow him to enter the gates; so far, they’d taken down three, leaving twelve.

“Okay, Vernan, Alexei, help that old bastard clear another gate. I will hold here with these cute maids!”

“Ah, damn this handsome bastard!” Vernan complained, with a huff, but still left, his gaze lingering on Nikolai for a moment. “Don’t die, little brother.”

Alexei followed, his steps a little more reluctant as he looked back. “I’ll be right back, don’t do anything reckless without me!”

“Eh, what about me?” Ryan asked, holding his two customised Desert Eagles.

Nikolai just kicked away another imp, smashing its skull open, and looked back. “Your damn wife will kill me if I send you somewhere dangerous!”

“Hahaha!”

“True.”

The pair stood closer, almost back to back, as they watched the chaos unfold. They could handle most of the smaller gates on the left with seven or eight maids and four to five knights, whether blood or from Volkov.

“Did you expect something so spicy tonight, Nikolai?”

“Did I fuck, tonight was my night off!”

The imps and dogs slowly seemed to adapt, learn and grow as if something hidden inside the gates controlled them rather than their independent mind control.

Deng!

De-Deng!

Nikolai’s Desert Eagle carried more force than Ryan’s, so with his dual shot, he barely burst the eye of a dog, while Nikolai’s single shot exploded the back of another’s skull—the difference in their bullets.

“Damn, you’re cheating with that huge hand cannon!” Ryan rubbed his wrists. Of course, firing such an improved magnum with a human wrist caused bruising and damage to the ligaments over time. Luckily, they enhanced him using various methods. Despite that, the light blue bruises began to form on his trigger fingers and around his hands.

“Shut up, human.” Nikolai mocked his friend.

He knew that even the maids with werewolf blood couldn’t fight forever. That’s why he rejected and refused Leona’s idea to send their clones.

‘Well, she accepted the sophism that someone might attack the mansion with over half their combat force in the south.’

“Beta Squad, Charlie Squad, take a rest and have Epsilon and Alpha support us.” Nikolai glanced back at the tired maids. He knew that any further might be detrimental to their forces; he didn’t want them to die for nothing.

He hadn’t transformed, and his father and mother were still preparing to send a secondary force with the remaining Knights. Their delay was because of his previous worry that there might be another force or Nosferatu taking the chance to strike.

Bzzz Bzzz!

Suddenly, his phone vibrated, and Sarah’s number appeared.

He glanced at the headline on the banner, and suddenly, the sound and noise around him vanished. Nikolai turned to Ryan, who massaged his wrists, while Nikolai’s head throbbed, and a sudden feeling of pain and stress hissed like tinnitus.

But he couldn’t leave.

There was no way he could abandon this fight!

Frustration brewed as a fresh wave of dogs appeared.

“Ryan, take my phone and follow the signal attached to Sarah, take Beta and Charlie squad with you.”

“Eh?”

“The passcode is #####!”

Blood pumped through Nikolai’s veins faster; his head ached, but the focus on what he needed to do and what he wanted became clearer.

Without a moment’s delay, he rushed at the incoming demons, with heaven-slaying spear in one hand, a custom Desert Eagle in the other.

“N-Nikolai!? Hey, Bro!”

“JUST GO! Save my grandfather! Everything you need to know is in that message!” Nikolai didn’t want to be a cunt, but he really couldn’t stop. The sooner he finished her, the faster he could use his blood to help heal his grandfather.

‘Shit!’

Deng!

The boom of his magnum rang out like a reaper’s melody, his body rotating like a spinning top, as the long, curved blade of his spear destroyed an entire pack of imps before they could make a sound.

More and more dark, dirty, raging energy flowed into his body.

Ryan watched his best friend, feeling like a brick had dropped inside him. When he glanced at the message. Everything became clear. But to Ryan, this also felt like abandoning his brothers. He’d spent the past few days in the Volkov mansion, training and having fun with Vernan and Alexei, learning more about Nikolai and what he’d done.

But there was another feeling.

What if something happened to Nikolai after he and the two squads left!?

Ryan was the godfather of those cute three little wolves; he’d realised just how magical having a family was, even after his twisted father and slut of a mother.

“Shit! You maids, remain here!”

“We cannot disobey our master’s orders!” The leader of the Beta team shouted, but Ryan shushed her with his finger.

“Then if your master dies? I will take ALL responsibility, just give me a few members and remain here to back him up.”

He then sighed, and looked at the pale, half-exhausted maids and then pointed at Nikolai, bathed in blood, tearing apart the dogs and imps like a deranged beast himself.

“My brother, your master, is fighting like that.” Their eyes widened as they watched an imp’s claws cut through his waist, then a dog bit his arm, only for Nikolai to unload his magnum inside the beast’s mouth, popping the back of its skull open. “He needs you! The Alpha team is in no worse condition than you! So, as his brother, please believe in my call!”

The leaders of the two teams glanced at each other. They’d been so focused on the combat that neither of them had noticed the wounds and damage Nikolai had taken to make up for the loss of combat force needed to close the gates.

“Understood, please take care, Lord Ryan.”

‘Wow!?’

Ryan’s cheeks flushed slightly until he remembered his wife back home. She would probably thrash him if he flirted with the maids here. “Thanks!” It was the first time the combat maids had respected him, and they even bowed. He dashed away, two from each group, and rushed to the cars hidden outside the combat zone.

“Can any of you two perform first aid, or any medical treatment?” He spoke as they leapt into the huge SUV with a machine gun on the side and a Gatling autocannon.

With a snap, he turned on the engine and drove away, not looking back once.

VROOOM!

.

.

.

Nikolai, who heard the deep sound of a customised SUV driving away, felt a sense of gratitude to his friend. He no longer needed to worry; his mind slowly clicked into place and focused on the task at hand.

BOOM!

Another gate exploded, kicking the people trapped inside out, while a deep crack formed across the doorway, spreading like a spider’s webbing.

Once the cracks reached the sigils around the doorway, it suddenly shattered, turning into ash as the fourth gate closed.

“Good!”

Reinvigorated Nikolai gripped his spear and jumped back—the deformed claw of a dog, smashing the ground like cheap glass. He glanced at the drooling freak. With a sharp step, he thrust the spear into the roof of its mouth.

His movement was so fast that the dog’s pupils shrank from the sharp pain.

“Another!”

He didn’t stop; his body moved like an automated demon slayer, killing all that stood before him. Though his muscles ached, his organs and insides burned with agonising fire, Nikolai continued to fight.

As the small gates fell, one by one, he managed to cover his maids, his allies… taking wounds and blows for them.

“MASTER!”

“NIKOLAI!”

“KID!”

However, in his determination to save lives and slay every demon possible, his position grew ever closer to the vast, looming gate. And the moment he let down his guard, glancing back to the knights, maids and even his father-in-law calling out to him.

A massive claw the size of a car came through the portal and grabbed him.

“Ugh!?”

The sharp claws punctured his chest, and before he could speak.

It dragged him inside.
