Capítulo 575: A moment of reflection Interrupted by Danger

Nikolai’s hand gripped the steering wheel as his car zoomed down the artificial highway at high speed. He watched the sleepy faces of his wives in the mirror before focusing on the road, curious about the lack of traffic.

‘Where is everyone?’

It was a weekend, but that usually meant more people driving out of the city to the surrounding parks or family-friendly activities.

But then he remembered the event that had happened a few months ago, when the gateway into the tower opened in the middle of the city, causing widespread damage. After that, many people moved away or remained in their homes during their time off.

He knew that members of the Moonlight Alliance, according to his wishes, were trying their best to locate more of those gates.

‘But there’s only so much we can dedicate to it, right…’

“What’s wrong, honey?” Luna’s gruff, sensual voice sounded from the back; she was currently stroking Anya’s pale face. Her morning sickness seemed rather extreme, causing more issues than he thought.

‘It’s good to see their sisterly bones have grown stronger, though.’

That was a worthy compromise.

A comfortable pull pushed Nikolai into his seat from the high speed, his eyes narrowing while listening to the radio, which told of sunny days, despite being winter.

[Because the effects of global warming have grown stronger…]

“Heh, bullshit.” He flipped to the next station, which played some high-tempo synthwave.

“Nn?”

Suddenly, Selene made a cute sound, her eyes fluttering as she finally woke up. Although he wanted to spend more time in the little village, because Anya became sick, Lunaria and Nikolai looked for a nice place to relax closer to home, just in case.

“Are you awake, honey?”

When he spoke to her, Selene’s eyes snapped open, and she truly looked confused for a moment, looking around before noticing his handsome face.

She settled into the comfortable seat, glancing at his side profile, the faint grin and confident expression bringing a deep smile to her face as she closed her eyes. “Mhm, my body is a little sore, but I feel so at peace.”

Selene lifted her hand and examined her nails, flipping her palm. “Fufu, my skin is so glossy and smooth. I must have drunk a lot of your blood, darling.”

Unlike Luna, who no longer changed how she acted when around him, her harsh yet soft attitude, which he enjoyed, couldn’t compare to the elegant and regal aura that Selene produced.

No longer arrogant or tsundere, soft like cotton, pure like the clouds, she smiled at him before leaning against the leather pillow.

The changes in Selene shocked Nikolai the most; he once hated her guts because of how feisty and arrogant she acted towards him. Now, she was like a little dog, happily curling on his lap and behaving.

.

.

.

Their car slowed after reaching the outer limits of the city, no longer racing, a calm, melodic tune played on the radio, while even Luna slept in the back with Anya.

‘It’s strange…’

Although he should feel at ease, once their breathing filled the silence, Nikolai only felt stress and worry. The tower, something he had avoided for the longest time, continued to corrode while he enjoyed dates with his wives.

Thoughts such as ‘When will the next gate open?’ or ‘Can the city defend itself against the coming threats?’ Nikolai knew best that the one he fought off with Ryan, Brian and Alexei could have easily destroyed half of S-City if he didn’t have the combat maids.

“If there is a gate that we cannot handle… corruption beyond our limits.”

He swallowed his last words.

‘What would I choose?’

His wives, family and friends.

Or the city itself.

“Luna?”

These were the things that started to eat away at him whenever Nikolai was alone, and the reason he always visited his wives at night, or drank himself into oblivion.

“Selene?”

He called out to the sisters, but their only response was snores; his vision became cloudy, and breathing became harder.

Clack!

With the flick of his blinkers, he slowed the car and came to a halt, just outside a small store near the eastern district. He glanced at the windows, shocked because everything was boarded up, and a small leaflet on the door said ‘closing sale.’ Which had the date from two months ago posted.

‘How many people have left?’

Although it wasn’t the most significant loss, and the outskirts were a much lower grade of building and income bracket, he never expected them to leave.

His engine came to a halt, and Nikolai slipped out of the car. He glanced back before tapping the lock function and stepping close to the buildings.

A small store, an elderly candy shop, and apartment blocks. All empty!

“When did this happen?”

He closed his eyes, trying to sense anyone or anything in the surrounding 2 miles.

The moment his aura spread, it rippled each time something solid touched the black mist. No people, a single dog eating from the trash. But other than that, the entire outer ring of the city was empty.

‘What’s going on!?’

Quickly, he snapped out of his calm mood and pulled his heaven-slaying spear from the space in front of him. ‘There should be a patrol of Werewolves from the Fenrir clan keeping order and making sure nobody enters from other clans!’

He now understood the subtle feeling of doubt and irritation in his mind.

Without a moment’s waste, he pulled out his phone and called Nikita, while arranging his thoughts and a message for his mother, Nagisa and his two fathers.

Ring Ring~

Ring Ring~

The pleasant song that Nikita loved echoed in his ear, while he felt the urge to take out a cigarette and smoke.

A tight ache lingered in his stomach, feeling like painful abdominal cramps.

“Ahem!” A cough sounded from the other side of the phone, along with the babble of their daughters. It was only six in the morning, so her voice sounded hoarse and a little cranky as she coaxed the girls to drink. “C’mon, babies, don’t fight… don’t bite, mommy’s nipples aren’t to bite.”

She hummed in pain a few times. “Viktoria!” Her soft, yet hushed scolding voice brought a smile to Nikolai’s face before he finally heard her speak to him.

“Honey, is everything alright? I’m just feeding the girls! So I can’t give you much attention.”

“I can wait, it’s alright. Maybe, maybe I just wanted to hear your voice, Nikita.”

“Woo…. Wooo!”

“Ahh~ Viktoria… can you hear daddy?”

‘So cute!’

He couldn’t help but smile while using his obsidian tide to grow the distance he scanned the city, but this wasn’t good.

Three miles.

Not a soul existed within three miles, but there were several spots that he couldn’t properly scan, as if something was obscuring his search.

Those places carried a dirty, disgusting atmosphere that sent tingles down his spine.

“Say hello, Dad.”

Nikita turned on the video call function, and her beautiful face appeared, followed by her exposed snowy peaks. Although modest on the side, the slight swelling of the tips added to the allure, as two pairs of beady little eyes glanced at him.

Dhalia and Elizabeth II both reached for the phone, babbling.

‘Ugh… so cute, my angels are the most intelligent!’

Werewolf babies grew faster, and their minds developed at six times the rate of a human, so despite being just under a month old, their minds were close to a six or seven-month-old’s, so they recognised his face.

Not to mention, they imprinted the faces of their parents at birth through the scent.

“Awu!”

“Wuuu….. *suckle*”

Elizabeth II turned back to her meal, while Dhalia (Adjusted to English from R-Dialect)

White hair now flowed to her cheeks, curling at the ends, while her chromatic red and silver eyes resembled tiny gemstones. She was the softest daughter, always curling into his arms whenever he hugged her.

Viktoria sat in the background, the most intelligent. Her black hair is long and straight, with her bangs cut across her eyebrows. She glanced at him from a distance, her golden eyes much more expressive than before.

‘She seems frustrated. Is it because she can’t speak?’

Though their bodies and minds grew faster, their physical form was close to that of a 2-year-old now; walking, talking, and the like happened more slowly.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth was like a soft blanket, enjoying the delicious milk of her mother, while squeezing and pinching her breasts without remorse.

“Ah… Liza~ it hurts, you hurt mommy!” Nikita, as a mother, had changed so much that it sent tingles down Nikolai’s spine; his heart raced at how charming he found her. But the situation meant he couldn’t linger.

“Nikita, do you have your father’s number? Or Nagisa’s?”

“Hmmm, eh? Don’t you have them? I am sure you’d have their numbers.”

He had numbers for them, but they were old, and recently, he remembered they’d gone out on a “love trip” with his parents and bought new phones and everything that his mother missed out on.

“They recently bought new ones, and I’ve been too busy to meet them…”

“Heh~ my mother is going to complain!”

Nagisa loved to ask him questions, or ask him to bring her and Dimitri wine often, so with those messages stopping. Nikolai nodded to his wife’s words, realising he’d probably missed a lot of their messages because his phone rejected unknown numbers!

“Please, speak to her for me!”

“Mmmmm~ maybe if you come home and hug me real tightly, kekeke.” Nikita then leaned to the side, using one arm to hold the two babies and her tail to keep Viktoria from leaving her seat as she grabbed her phone.

‘Mothers are so overpowered…’

With an inaudible sigh, she glanced at the video and smiled. “I’ve sent their new numbers to you, but is there something wrong?” She peered at him, tilting his head with curiosity.

He might have hidden it in the past, but this was his wife.

Not some random girl.

So with a smile, he told her about the situation.

“There’s nobody here. In the entire outskirts of the city, there’s not a single soul or patrol.”

He slowly took a breath, then tilted his head.

The slight furrowed brow and his lips pressed together so hard they turned pale gave his emotions away to her. Her eyes opened, and her mouth opened wide as an O.

He then continued with a forlorn gaze.

“I think…. There are at least five gates here. So I might not make it home tonight.”
