Chapter 552: Seven Ghost Werewolf Slaying Array
The low boom of gunshots and weapons clashing filled the ordinary office, lights smashed as Ryan slipped from cover, unloading several magnum rounds into the group of vampire grunts. A flash from the muzzle illuminated the ferocious faces of the hideous vampires hiding inside the darkened room.
Deng!
His last shot rebounded off the wall as another vampire fell.
Ryan’s cheeks dripped with sweat as he swallowed his agitated breaths. Upon reaching the tenth floor, the enemies started sprouting like flowers in spring.
Desperate to survive, he supported Alexei from behind with well-timed shots.
“Alexei is damn strong.” Muttered Ryan as he changed magazines.
“Fuck!”
A sudden shout from Alexei shook the room, causing Ryan to leave his cover. The modern vampires preferred weapons like shotguns and pistols to the werewolves, who still fought with melee weapons.
“Alex, what happened!?”
“Oh, Ryan!”
Bang!
Alexei’s fish sank into another vampire’s skull, killing him instantly. The huge vampire dashed towards a tall vampire with particularly gruesome features, a furrowed brow, veins bulging from its exposed head and green lips.
He lowered his shoulders and lunged at the male in response, and the vampire lifted his pistol with an eerie hiss.
“Foolish half-blood!”
The man pulled the trigger without care.
Alexei lowered his stance and rushed forward with a blue light shining from his shoulder.
“Fuck you!”
Deng!
Crack!
Despite using anti-monster bullets, the silver shot bounced off Alexei’s reinforced skin with a spurt of black blood as he lifted and crushed the vampire against the wall.
“Kuhh!”
Another vampire rushed in from the side, looking for an opening.
“Beast loving filth!”
Shifting like a martial artist, Alexei stepped back and smashed the vampire’s throat with his thick palm. He then twirled his body effortlessly, unleashing a headbutt on the vampire leader.
“Haa…. damn vampires.”
‘Wow, he’s a fucking beast!’
Ryan’s hands shifted, shocked at the sight.
‘There was no chance that didn’t hurt him!’
Alex moved as if possessed, almost like a bull trapped in a china shop, without care for his own body; he thrashed around, destroying the vampires.
Da! Da! Da!
Ryan unloaded his bullets in rapid shots and no longer caring about accuracy, desperate to create openings and a passage for Alexei.
The pleasant sound of casings bouncing accompanied the groans of falling vampires who clenched gaping wounds from his attacks.
“Alex, you good?”
He called out to the large vampire who gripped their boss by the throat.
“Don’t get cocky, human!”
The vampires gathered and rushed at Ryan all at once.
“Tsk!”
Ryan launched himself over an upturned desk, aiming at the gathering horde.
Bang!
With a flash of light and the scent of smoke, his bullets tore through the skull of a female vampire.
“Michelle!?”
A tall male vampire screamed, charging at him from the right, full of rage. In the past, it might’ve been too fast for him to follow with the naked eye, but now, thanks to Nikolai’s training, it wasn’t!
“Too slow you leech!”
Crack!
Using his magnums, Ryan unloaded his entire magazines into the crowds and pushed himself into the air like a long jumper, his body floating backwards. Midair, he twisted his body and avoided the crazed vampire’s dive.
He then slammed the back of his Magnum on the head of the confused vampire, who lost his target.
“Fall!”
A thrilling tingle ran down his spine and became a jolt of pleasure.
‘I can do this!’
A surge of bloodlust coursed through him; the movements of the vampires became clear.
‘Focus, watch their movements.’
He took a deep breath and rolled to the side, creating some distance between himself and the enraged male vampires. Even though he trained with Nikolai and gained enhanced physical abilities from the SSS, it didn’t change the fact that he was still only human.
One careless mistake would cost him his life.
Da! Da! Da! Click!
With rapid shots, the vampires fell until his guns clicked.
‘Empty! Shit.”
Even while facing dozens of vampires at once, he didn’t feel the same fatigue or fear that once overwhelmed him. Thinking back to when he struggled to fight in the past and how he’d been overwhelmed no longer made sense.
‘It seems all I needed was confidence.’
He snapped two spare mags from his belt, placed them into the gun, then rolled back. Mid-roll, he tapped them against the ground to snap them into place.
“Let’s go!”
Why did he suddenly enjoy this?
“Phew…”
“Ryan, are you done playing around? Come on, we have to join up with Nikolai.”
What?
‘Playing around? Are you mad, brother? That was me desperately trying to survive!!!’
Ryan’s gaze shifted to where Alexei had held the vampire a few moments before. There, piled up, were several vampire corpses, not just one or two but at least seven. Alexei’s strength wasn’t a joke.
‘Well, this guy isn’t normal…’
He couldn’t accept the difference in skill, but he also noticed his growth.
Having wiped out the vampires on the floor, Alexei nodded. “Well, you did pretty well, for a human at least.”
“For a human? Right…”
Though Alexei joked with Ryan, it didn’t make him angry or irritated; in fact, he smiled. He was already satisfied with this growth; to fight with Alexei and Nikolai was the first step of his dream coming true.
So he nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, you’re right. We both have a long way to go.”
“Both?” Alexei’s eyes narrowed before he covered his face. “Yeah, you’re right.”
Ryan watched the big guy smile for the first time. He could barely believe what happened and hurriedly shifted himself to avoid another scolding.
‘Damn, this guy’s pretty handsome when he smiles.’
The reason his pretty wife chose him became clearer upon spending more time with the man. Although he still believed his Lamia lover was the most beautiful in the world.
Hiss!
After a moment of silence, a strange light filled the room; it was luminous green and formed small triangular shapes. The shapes floated and stuck to the ceiling. Ryan tried to decrypt the words, but the strange text wasn’t anything he’d seen before.
“What the hell is this?”
He inhaled, unable to breathe from the moment the circle formed.
Crackle, crackle!
A tight weight pressed against his chest, enveloping him from head to toe. With a powerful force, he flung back against the wall.
“Ack!?”
Bang!
He slammed into the wall, cracking the surface… unable to move as he spat blood from the sudden, painful shock.
A lightning storm surged from the eerie green circle, sweeping around the room, arcing towards the metal fixtures in the room.
‘W-What happened?’
With a single strike, half the maids collapsed, and even Alexei knelt against the wall.
“Ugh, Ryan, be careful.”
Alexei called out, but Ryan’s focus and consciousness had already faded between awake and completely dark.
“Blood Wolf!” a collapsed maid called out.
“What is it?!”
The maid coughed blood, her skin filled with bulging black veins as the storm transformed into a pulsing pressure.
Ryan stared blankly at the eerie atmosphere with a bewildered expression.
‘What is happening!?’
What was this? It wasn’t just something to bind them against the floor. No, the pressure was something else; he could see the changes in their bodies. Ryan needed to recover before it was too late.
However, before the group could adjust, the green circle shattered like glass.
The next moment, several ghostly figures appeared from within the smoke left by the lightning storm.
“Seven Ghost Werewolf Slaying Array?”
‘The hell is that!?’
Ryan glanced at Alexei, whose eyes opened wide.
The ghosts slipped into the fallen bodies of the vampires.
Suddenly, their victory turned on its head, and the deformed corpses of vampires started to shift with a disgusting sound.
Bones cracked, organs squished, and then they stood once again.
“Damn it, they got us!”
There were countless hidden secrets in this world, of the thousands of years each race existed; of course, things like magic and alchemy once existed. The existence of arrays started in the East. Some used them to cleanse evil spirits, to protect the people from inhuman monsters in the dark ages and during the growth of humanity.
With the advancement of technology, most clans switched to digital arrays. However, these arrays lost the same power as the old ones created with blood sacrifice and an almost foolishly nonsensical idea of magic.
So a natural array using blood as the medium carried a strange beyond usual.
“Can we break it somehow!?”
“Calm down, Ryan can you shoot the ceiling?”
Alexei tried to calm the fearful maids.
Despite being monsters, their bloodline wasn’t pure and thus they could experience the fears a human would.
‘Wait? Shoot the ceiling?’
Ryan gripped his magnums and gritted his teeth.
The pain when he tried to move felt close to the sensation of someone squeezing his balls or kicking him in the gut. Yet with the vampires slowly standing after the seven ghosts entered their bodies, he couldn’t give up.
He desperately forced his hand to move.
‘I can do this.’
However, the leader whom Alexei crushed rushed at Ryan.
‘Shit.’
He was fucked.
